There, he meets Auntie Brie, an extraordinary drag queen who shapes his destiny. Revisit the politically charged 1979 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, join in the debauchery of NYC's acclaimed Studio 54, and escape to the Cape, for a summer gone wild with one of Ptown’s most beloved houseboys. Download or read book The Last Dance written by Ed McBain and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 1999-11-17 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fiftieth novel in the 87th Precinct series, Ed McBain returns to Isola, where detectives Meyer Meyer and Steve Carella investigate a murder which leads them to the seedy strip clubs and bright lights of the theater district. In this city, you can get anything done for a price. If you want someone's eyeglasses smashed, it’ll cost you a subway token. You want his fingernails pulled out? His legs broken? You want him more seriously injured? You want him hurt so he’s an invalid his whole life? You want him skinned, you want him burned, you want him—don’t even mention it in a whisper—killed? It can be done. Let me talk to someone. It can be done. The hanging death of a nondescript old man in a shabby little apartment in a meager section of the 87th Precinct was nothing much in this city, especially to detectives Carella and Meyer. But everyone has a story, and this old man’s story stood to make some people a lot of money. His story takes Carella, Meyer, Brown, and Weeks on a search through Isola’s seedy strip clubs and to the bright lights of the theater district. There they discover an upcoming musical with ties to a mysterious drug and a killer who stays until the last dance. The Last Dance is Ed McBain's fiftieth novel of the 87th Precinct and certainly one of his best. The series began in 1956 with Cop Hater and proves him to be the man who has been called “so good he should be arrested.”

Nick only has two leads--a packet of mysterious purple powder found on the victim and a set of whacked out witnesses glued to the floor. Outside, roaming the dark streets of Los Angeles, Ray Cobb wants nothing more than a dry place to sleep. But his night is far from over. A body has been dumped in his Chinatown squat and Ray is the only suspect in the killing. To clear his name, he must turn to his old friend, Nick. But Ray is going to have to prove his innocence without Nick’s help. Ray and Nick’s investigations collide as they slide deep into a pulp noir world of drugged out Hollywood-types, indentured Ukrainian hitmen, and a fastidious florist prone to kidnapping. Mistakes from the past resurface and both men learn reckless decisions can have dire consequences. The Last Dance of Low Seward is the second volume of Brad Grusnick's Vagrant Mystery Series, a modern noir exploring the underbelly of Los Angeles. Be sure to pick up Book 1 in the series, The Last Will and Testament of Ernie Politics.

Book Synopsis Grandpa's Stories by : Ronald (Ronn) L. Shank
Download or read book Grandpa's Stories written by Ronald (Ronn) L. Shank and published by Author House. This book was released on 2012-09-17 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of years ago now as one of my grandsons first birthday approached I thought about what to give a one year old. There are a million things that will be played with for a short while then either broken or ignored. I wanted to give something special, something lasting, something that even when older he might still enjoy. Then it struck me, since he likes the silly little stories I tell him upon his request, that maybe I could write some cute little short stories, with a moral as well, just for him (and any of my other grandchildren as well when shared). Thats all it took to get me started. Since then each year I write a little story that somehow relates to something in his life. When another grandchild came along he also was added to the list of recipients of original stories. When I got to thinking about it I decided there may be other grandparents that would like to spend time with their grandchild reading a little story. Now a few years down the pike and I have enough for a book. And so herein I offer my readers a chance to share the joy of time spent reading to a child. That is why my stories were written in the first place. Children go through phases as with my grandchildren there were the dinosaurs, whales, (especially the blue whale), hedge hogs, puppies and gold fish. Im sure you get my drift. All of these fed my imagination and help to produce stories that have a connection and personal touch for both the child and me. These stories are not written for children to read, but rather for a loving adult to sit down with child on their lap or side by side on a shared sofa and be read to. I recommend using funny voices and lots of emphasis and maybe a tickle or two at just the right moment to add flavor and a garnish to each story. The giggles, like sparklers on the 4th of July, will shower joy in all directions and warm the heart of the one reading the story and those close by. Do not be concerned about the content all the stories contained in this book are rated PG - (to be read by Parent or Grandparent). I hope you will enjoy these short stories even more that I did writing them.
