Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This pamphlet makes use of the most recent revisionist literature to reassess the view, much propagated by nationalist sources, that Ireland was a land of impoverished peasants oppressed by English laws and absentee English landlords. The land question has always been closely linked to the development of Irish national consciousness, and greatly exercised the minds of English politicians in the latter part of the nineteenth century. The author examines the nature of English understanding of Irish problems, which was often limited or ignorant, and attributes to it much of the unsound and ineffective ligislation passed. The book is concerned less with questions of English party politics than with the situation in Ireland itself and with the nature of the English response to it.

Book excerpt: “Three Agriculture-related problems” is a social problem of public concern in China since its reform and opening up program. Nowadays, people from all walks of life have realized the seriousness of the problem, the urgency of solving the problem and the great significance of solving the problem to the deepening of socialist economic market. So far, there have been great achievements in the economic and sociological circles, but the research in the legal field is relatively weak. In search for methods and approaches for solutions, many researchers stopped where the problems arose. Therefore, to solve the “three agriculture-related problems” fundamentally, more insightful research shall be made from a higher perspective, that is, the rule of law.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is a slice of intensified history—history as I saw it.” So begins John Reed’s first-hand account of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. Much anticipated when it was published in 1919, Reed’s narrative remains as riveting today as when the events he describes were still reverberating throughout the world. Reed was hardly a disinterested observer, and his involvement in the Communist labor movement lends urgency and passion to his classic account. He vividly describes events in Petrograd in November 1917, when Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks stormed the Winter Palace and seized the reins of power. Despite Reed’s personal leanings, which he made no attempt to hide, the book garnered praise from luminaries across the political spectrum. George F. Kennan, the American diplomat, and father of the policy of Soviet containment, said that “Reed’s account of the events of that time rises above every other contemporary record for its literary power, its penetration, its command of detail. It will be remembered when all others are forgotten." Reed was committed to telling the story of the Russian revolution as truthfully as possible. That the book was banned by Russian premier Josef Stalin is a testament to the author’s success in carrying out his mission. One hundred years after Russia and the world trembled, Ten Days that Shook the World brings alive the momentous events of 1917.
