Book excerpt: "Of all the men who attacked the flying problem in the 19th century, Otto Lilienthal was easily the most important. His greatness appeared in every phase of the problem. No one equaled him in power to draw new recruits to the cause; no one equaled him in fullness and dearness of understanding of the principles of flight; no one did so much to convince the world of the advantages of curved wing surfaces; and no one did so much to transfer the problem of human flight to the open air where it belonged." These words were spoken by Wilbur Wright, who successfully accomplished the first powered flight together with his brother Orville in 1903 on the sand dunes of the Outer Banks off the coast of North Carolina. Wilbur was talking about the most important of their predecessors, Otto Lilienthal. Lilienthal attracted worldwide attention due to the spectacular photographs showing him in flight, made possible by technology that had only just been developed by him. This fortuitous union between a pioneer of aviation and the pioneers of so-called “instantaneous photography” is responsible for the immense contemporary popularity of Lilienthal’s flights around the globe, the first ever free flights performed by man. This book traces the life of the German aviation pioneer, focusing on the designs of his many aircraft and the photographic documentation that has survived. The presentation ends with a remarkable research project conducted by one of the authors, right up to and including his own training exercises with Lilienthal’s “normal soaring apparatus” and “large biplane”. This project offered new insight into Lilienthal’s work, and also led to a spectacular aerial meeting of Lilienthal's 1895 biplane and the Wright brothers’ 1902 biplane at a historic location on the Outer Banks. The book provides access to video material, largely stemming from this project.

This book was released on 1997-10-17 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saroyan’s debut collection of stories. A timeless selection of brilliant short stories that won William Saroyan a position among the foremost, most widely popular writers of America when it first appeared in 1934.With the greatest of ease William Saroyan flew across the literary skies in 1934 with the publication of The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze and Other Stories. One of the first American writers to describe the immigrant experience in the U.S., Saroyan created characters who were Armenians, Jews, Chinese, Poles, Africans, and the Irish. The title story touchingly portrays the thoughts of a very young writer, dying of starvation. All of the tales were written during the great depression and reflect, through pathos and humor, the mood of the nation in one of its greatest times of want.

Book excerpt: Aviation books were a unique and prolific subgenre of American juvenile literature from the early to mid-20th century, drawing upon the nation's intensifying interest. The first books of this type, Harry L. Sayler's series Airship Boys, appeared shortly after the Wright brothers' first successful flight in 1909. Following Charles Lindbergh's solo flight across the Atlantic, popular series like Ted Scott and Andy Lane established the "golden age" of juvenile aviation literature. This work examines the 375 juvenile aviation series titles published between 1909 and 1964. It weaves together several thematic threads, including the placement of aviation narratives within the context of major historical events, the technical accuracy in depictions of flying machines and the ways in which characters reflected the culture of their eras. Three appendices provide publication data for each series, a list of referenced aircraft and an annotated bibliography; there is a full index.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The prophet who has a dream let him tell a dream and he, who has My Word, let him speak My Word faithfully." (Jeremiah 23:28) The Word of the LORD God came to me in a dream the first time in 1982, and I was told to proclaim the coming of the Son of Man for seventeen years. My full testimony, biography, and the lessons God had taught me throughout those years are written in the book "The Witness to the Coming of Jesus Christ," published in 1999. The LORD God spoke to me a second time in a dream and said, "TELL MY COVENANT PEOPLE THEY WILL NOT BE HARMED " The third time, the Messiah had come. He awakened me from a deep sleep and released the Seventh Seal. These three prophetic events were given to make known, to the church and the world, our current position in Biblical Prophecy. The LORD God has also led me through a series of events which revealed that the invisible Kingdom of the Son of Man had come. Although it is concealed, the Messiah revealed it two-thousand years ago through many parables in the Holy Bible. Now, I have been called to reveal its existence so that others may prepare to enter into it. Further studies will leave no doubt that this kingdom is on earth now. You will see and understand... The unseen Kingdom of the Son of Man The Kingdom through the faith of a child What will be required to enter His Kingdom How the dead in our Messiah will enter in first When the faithful saints will be transferred into it The warnings and consequences of being left outside What will happen to the world after the Kingdom doors close

Book excerpt: A record of one man's journey to find his "true masculinity" and his way out of co-dependent and addictive relationships. It's a book for all men and women who grew up in dysfunctional families and are now ready for some fresh insights into their past and their pain. It's a story about feelings - losing them, finding them and finally expressing them. Here you will find people you know; will discover a way out of the pain and see that it really is OK to express yourself without fear. The book is about grieving, a very misunderstood process often confused with self-pity. Open the doors to understanding - men will understand themselves and each other, and women will more deeply understand men, learn how to be with wounded men and still take care of themselves.
