Book Synopsis The Joke’S on You, This Time by : Charles Rice
Download or read book The Joke’S on You, This Time written by Charles Rice and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-04-26 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like my first literary attempt, The Jokes on Me, this book is primarily a collection of editorials and letters to the editor of the local newspaper, along with running commentary and some attempted justification for the foolishness. The first book would not exist if it hadnt been for the insistence of several people that all this should be in a book. Most of the letters to the editor in this first section were written under the guise of the Greater Sycamore Valley Chamber of Commerce, an entity that existed only in the minds of its readers. Some of the letters were just personal reflections on the situation of the day. Some of the letters may seem terribly redundant, but I never was one to pass up an opportunity to tell the same joke twice. The second and most important part of this book contains Sunday Guest Editorials, which I have written for publication in the local newspaper. These editorials deal with issues of a religious nature and were written in the hope that they would stimulate readers to contemplate their own relationship with the One who spoke and all things came into existence.

Book Synopsis The Guardian of the Mystical Rosary by : Adesoji Aderemi
Download or read book The Guardian of the Mystical Rosary written by Adesoji Aderemi and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2019-07-22 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tries subtly to drop a hint in the mind of its readers that, despite ‘free will’, the gods might still be at play in the affairs of humans, using their characters to influence them in this world of duality where opposing poleheads persistently struggle to dominate the environment. While some cooperate wittingly to varying degrees, somehow godlike, some remain for the most part of it unwitting, thus puppets whose passions are the control strings in the hands of the gods and the godlike Should one dare, in philosophical imagination, to think God gave birth to twins, then this is replayed in Orisha, who made the mystical Rosary for his twins, Orishagbemi and Orishadami, to solve humanity problems, but who later fought after his transition, like darkness and brightness; a fight that caused the loss of the Rosary in the valley of crocodiles. The fate of humanity will depend on which side repossesses this Rosary. The descendants of these twins found expressions in two respective organizations. At the apex of one is Bwallangwu, immortal entity and the personal representative of Lucifer on earth. The opposing side, some members of an ancient religion, for certain reasons is hiding and could hardly get organized into a credible force. They engaged the service of a certain person in mask. One finds reoccurring in the book this duality phenomenon like mystical allegories and proverbs Eventually, Orisha that started it would end it in favour of the better side, to be decided by humanity themselves, for themselves.

Book Synopsis Leaving Richard's Valley by : Michael DeForge
Download or read book Leaving Richard's Valley written by Michael DeForge and published by Drawn and Quarterly. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a group of outcasts have to leave the valley, how will they survive the toxicity of the big city? Richard is a benevolent but tough leader. He oversees everything that happens in the valley, and everyone loves him for it. When Lyle the Raccoon becomes sick, his friends—Omar the Spider, Neville the Dog, and Ellie Squirrel—take matters into their own hands, breaking Richard’s strict rules. Caroline Frog rats them out to Richard and they are immediately exiled from the only world they’ve ever known. Michael DeForge’s Leaving Richard’s Valley expands from a bizarre hero’s quest into something more. As this ragtag group makes their way out of the valley, and then out of the park and into the big city, we see them coming to terms with different kinds of community: noise-rockers, gentrification protesters, squatters, and more. DeForge is idiosyncratically funny but also deeply insightful about community, cults of personality, and the condo-ization of cities. These eye-catching and sometimes absurd comics coalesce into a book that questions who our cities are for and how we make community in a capitalist society.
Book Synopsis Inference and Consciousness by : Timothy Chan
Download or read book Inference and Consciousness written by Timothy Chan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-12-20 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inference has long been a central concern in epistemology, as an essential means by which we extend our knowledge and test our beliefs. Inference is also a key notion in influential psychological accounts of mental capacities, ranging from problem-solving to perception. Consciousness, on the other hand, has arguably been the defining interest of philosophy of mind over recent decades. Comparatively little attention, however, has been devoted to the significance of consciousness for the proper understanding of the nature and role of inference. It is commonly suggested that inference may be either conscious or unconscious. Yet how unified are these various supposed instances of inference? Does either enjoy explanatory priority in relation to the other? In what way, or ways, can an inference be conscious, or fail to be conscious, and how does this matter? This book brings together original essays from established scholars and emerging theorists that showcase how several current debates in epistemology, philosophy of psychology and philosophy of mind can benefit from more reflections on these and related questions about the significance of consciousness for inference.

Download or read book Everyday Ethics written by Michael Lamb and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What might we learn if the study of ethics focused less on hard cases and more on the practices of everyday life? In Everyday Ethics, Michael Lamb and Brian Williams gather some of the world’s leading scholars and practitioners of moral theology (including some GUP authors) to explore that question in dialogue with anthropology and the social sciences. Inspired by the work of Michael Banner, these scholars cross disciplinary boundaries to analyze the ethics of ordinary practices—from eating, learning, and loving thy neighbor to borrowing and spending, using technology, and working in a flexible economy. Along the way, they consider the moral and methodological questions that emerge from this interdisciplinary dialogue and assess the implications for the future of moral theology.

When her car breaks down in the Nevada desert, the silence of the night is broken by a radio broadcast of a voicemail message from her best friend, Gaby. A message Rose has listened to countless times over the past year. The last one Gaby left before she died. So Rose follows the lights from the closest radio tower to Lotus Valley, a small town where prophets are a dime a dozen, secrets lurk in every shadow, and the diner pie is legendary. And according to Cassie Cyrene, the town's third most accurate prophet, they've been waiting for her. Because Rose's arrival is part of a looming prophecy, one that says a flood will destroy Lotus Valley in just three days' time. Rose believes if the prophecy comes true then it will confirm her worst fear—the PTSD she was diagnosed with after Gaby's death has changed her in ways she can't face. So with help from new friends, Rose sets out to stop the flood, but her connection to it, and to this strange little town, runs deeper than she could've imagined. Debut author Rebecca Mahoney delivers an immersive and captivating novel about magical places, found family, the power of grief and memory, and the journey toward reconciling who you think you've become with the person you've been all along.
