Book excerpt: For much of the second half of the twentieth century, the Seventh-day Adventist church was embroiled in dissent and argument over a doctrine which was largely unknown by other Christian churches.October 27 1979 was a pivotal date for Seventh-day Adventism. On that day Desmond Ford, responding to an invitation from the PUC (Pacific Union College) Forum, spoke to over 1000 people on "The Investigative Judgment: Theological Milestone or Historical Necessity". Dr Eric Syme responded, expressing his substantial agreement with Ford's presentation. Then followed a lengthy Q&A session. The results were cataclysmic: they included the loss of hundreds of SDA ministers and the withdrawal from Adventist churches of thousands in coming years. For several days in August 1980, at great expense to the church administration, over 100 church leaders gathered at Glacier View Colorado to discuss the controversial issues. Here is the story... transcribed, undiluted and unplugged.Dear Reader, Almost forty years have passed since the events you will read about in this publication. At the time, the ripples from this controversy became a tsunami that tore through a generation of Seventh-day Adventists, leading to the exodus of hundreds of dedicated ministers and thousands of disillusioned members from the church. Many more remained inside the church they loved, but grew old and passed away without the confidence they deserved to have in the certainty of their salvation. Desmond Ford

Much of the book looks at the Sabbath with fresh insight. The final part reveals the mysterious realms of Sheol and Hades in order to expose SDA error about the soul. This book was released on 2018-07-07 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Desmond Ford was one of the most prominent preachers of Righteousness by Faith in the Seventh-day Adventist denomination. In 1970, he completed a second doctorate in New Testament (eschatology) at Manchester University, UK, under the supervision of the eminent Professor F. F. Bruce. From 1960 till 1977, Ford taught at Avondale College, in NSW Australia and helped train a whole generation of ministers and teachers. In 1977, he and his second wife Gillian and family went to teach at Pacific Union College, in Angwin, California. Ford had many enemies who were bitterly opposed to his emphasis on a sinless Christ, justification by faith alone, a different interpretation of prophecy, and a kinder approach to Roman Catholic Christians. Robert D. Brinsmead, called "a gadfly on the flank of Adventism," switched from his Adventist perfectionism to teaching the Reformer's gospel of righteousness by faith in the early 1970s. This heightened the agitation against Ford, especially when Brinsmead renounced Adventism's unique doctrine of 1844 and the investigative judgment. Through historicist principles and with the aid of the nonbiblical Year-Day Principle, Adventists had taught from 1853 that in 1844, Christ entered the Most Holy Place in heaven and began the judgment of the living. The heads of the Adventist Forum chapter asked Ford to take a meeting on the subject of 1844 at Pacific Union College. After the talk, Ford was pulled out his classes and sent to General Conference headquarters to write up his views. This manuscript was the result. In August 1980 at convocation at Glacier View, Ford's views were rejected and plans for his dismissal were put in place. In this volume two, chapters 3 and 4 deal with the biblical issue of the Day Atonement in the New Testament books of Hebrews and Revelation in order to show there is no biblical evidence for 1844 and the Investigative Judgment.

Book excerpt: John Nevins Andrews in the late 1800's released this classic study on The Judgment, outlining its events and their order. This work covers the following points: "The "Investigative Judgment", "Examination of the Books", "God the Father the Judge", "Offices of Christ", "Messages to the World", "The Sanctuary in Heaven", "The Crowning of Christ", "The Executive Judgment", and "The Saints Sitting in Judgment". Andrews clearly explains and disproves many long-held misbeliefs about God's work to remove sin from His people. His greatest desire was to explain Christian beliefs from the scriptures in a logical and easily understandable manner.

The language of the inspired writers expresses in the most vivid manner, the awful and terrific scenes of that day in which God arises from His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth. God always warns before sending His judgments. As He warned Sodom and Gomorrah before sending fire and brimstone, and the antediluvian world through Noah before the flood, even so today He is sending a message of warning. In Revelation, Chapter 14, we find the three angels' messages which are being heralded around the world.

Book Synopsis The Case for the Investigative Judgment by : Marvin Moore
Download or read book The Case for the Investigative Judgment written by Marvin Moore and published by Pacific Press Publishing Association. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ellen White called Christ's ministry in the heavenly sanctuary "the foundation of our faith" (Evangelism, page 221) and said if the people of God don't understand the investigative judgment, "it will be impossible for them to exercise the faith which is essential at this time." (Great Controversy, p 488). But critics of this doctrine say it can't be supported from Scripture, and they claim that no one who believes it can have the assurance of salvation. Popular author Marvin Moore has examined the objections of the critics and the best thinking of dedicated Adventist scholars. In this book, he aims to help the readers understand this foundational doctrine and gain its spiritual benefits - based solely on the evidence from Scripture.

Book Synopsis Ellen G. White A Psychobiography by : Steve Daily
Download or read book Ellen G. White A Psychobiography written by Steve Daily and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-12-16 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This explosive work contains a great deal of highly documented material on the life and movement of Ellen G. White that Adventists in general, to say nothing of the public, will not know. The book is not a classic psychobiography, although history and psychology are the primary disciplines employed. It also contains a sprinkling of theology and personal reflection to make it a unique blend. The most striking evidence presented raises major questions about the prophet’s mental and moral health. It is a must read for anyone who truly wants to understand Seventh-Day Adventism and its prophetic founder. A devastating work. What Numbers and Rea started, your book will finish! —John Dart (1936-2019), longtime religion editor, Los Angeles Times I enjoyed the writing and the stories. The anecdotes you included enriched the content. Your writing was personal, and I think readers will feel that you are writing to them, and makes the book of increased value. There is the same question with Joseph Smith. Why do people stay in the face of such documentation? What are the forces that keep them tied to source documentation of fraud? —Dr. Robert Anderson, psychiatrist, author, Inside the Mind of Joseph Smith: Psychobiography and the Book of Mormon I found the material fascinating, a powerful polemic! —Ronald Numbers, William Coleman professor of History, University of Wisconsin-Madison, author, Prophetess of Health
Book Synopsis Sabbath in Christ by : Dale Ratzlaff
Download or read book Sabbath in Christ written by Dale Ratzlaff and published by . This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, Christian debate over the Sabbath has focused on Saturday versus Sunday. Through careful biblical scholarship, Sabbath in Christ demonstrates how the heart of the "Sabbath-for-Christians" issue (like all true Christian issues) is Christocentric, not a debate about days. Dale Ratzlaff builds a strong case that arguing for one holy day or the other misses the New Testament's main point about the Sabbath: all old covenant holy days, including the seventh-day Sabbath, predicted and find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ. - Foreword.

Book excerpt: "The Lord has shown me that Satan was once an honored angel in heaven, next to Jesus Christ. His countenance was mild, expressive of happiness like the other angels. His forehead was high and broad, and showed great intelligence. His form was perfect. He had noble, majestic bearing. And I saw that when God said to his Son, Let us make man in our image, Satan was jealous of Jesus. He wished to be consulted concerning the formation of man. He was filled with envy, jealousy and hatred. He wished to be the highest in heaven, next to God, and receive the highest honors. Until this time all heaven was in order, harmony and perfect subjection to the government of God."-Ellen G White
