Book Synopsis Mixed and Augmented Reality in Medicine by : Terry M. Peters
Download or read book Mixed and Augmented Reality in Medicine written by Terry M. Peters and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Augmented reality (AR) is transforming how we work, learn, play and connect with the world, and is now being introduced to the field of medicine, where it is revolutionising healthcare as pioneering virtual elements are being added to real images to provide a more compelling and intuitive view during procedures. This book, which had its beginnings at the AE-CAI: Augmented Environments for Computer-Assisted Interventions MICCAI Workshop in Munich in 2015, is the first to review the area of mixed and augmented reality in medicine. Covering a range of examples of the use of AR in medicine, it explores its relevance to minimally-invasive interventions, how it can improve the accuracy of a procedure and reduce procedure time, and how it may be employed to reduce radiation risks. It also discusses how AR can be an effective tool in the education of physicians, medical students, nurses and other health professionals. Features: An ideal practical guide for medical professionals and students looking to understand the implementation, applications, and future of AR Contains the latest developments and technologies in this innovative field Edited by highly respected pioneers in the field, who have been immersed in AR as well as virtual reality and image-guided surgery since their inception, with chapter contributions from subject area specialists working with AR
Download or read book Augmented Reality written by Soha Maad and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) tools and techniques supply virtual environments that have key characteristics in common with our physical environment. Viewing and interacting with 3D objects is closer to reality than abstract mathematical and 2D approaches. Augmented Reality (AR) technology, a more expansive form of VR is emerging as a cutting-edge technology that integrates images of virtual objects into a real world. In that respect Virtual and Augmented reality can potentially serve two objectives: reflecting realism through a closer correspondence with real experience, and extending the power of computer-based technology to better reflect abstract experience. With the growing amount of digital data that can be stored and accessed there is a rising need to harness this data and transform it into an engine capable of developing our view and perception of the world and of boosting the economic activity across domain verticals. Graphs, pie charts and spreadsheet are not anymore the unique medium to convey the world. Advanced interactive patterns of visualization and representations are emerging as a viable alternative with the latest advances in emerging technologies such as AR and VR. And the potential and rewards are tremendous. This book discusses the opportunities and challenges facing the development of this technology.
Book Synopsis Global Gidelines for the Pevention of Surgical Site Infection by : World Health Organization
Download or read book Global Gidelines for the Pevention of Surgical Site Infection written by World Health Organization and published by . This book was released on 2017-01-27 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surgical site infections are caused by bacteria that get in through incisions made during surgery. They threaten the lives of millions of patients each year and contribute to the spread of antibiotic resistance. In low- and middle-income countries, 11% of patients who undergo surgery are infected in the process. In Africa, up to 20% of women who have a caesarean section contract a wound infection, compromising their own health and their ability to care for their babies. But surgical site infections are not just a problem for poor countries. In the United States, they contribute to patients spending more than 400 000 extra days in hospital at a cost of an additional US $10 billion per year. No international evidence-based guidelines had previously been available before WHO launched its global guidelines on the prevention of surgical site infection on 3 November 2016, and there are inconsistencies in the interpretation of evidence and recommendations in existing national guidelines. These new WHO guidelines are valid for any country and suitable to local adaptations, and take account of the strength of available scientific evidence, the cost and resource implications, and patient values and preferences.

Book Synopsis Crafting A Legacy: The Incredible Lives Of Asian-pacific Hand Surgery Pioneers by : Dawn Chia
Download or read book Crafting A Legacy: The Incredible Lives Of Asian-pacific Hand Surgery Pioneers written by Dawn Chia and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a compilation of the remarkable journeys of 48 hand surgery pioneers from the Asian-Pacific region. They came from diverse backgrounds — one being the 21st generation doctor in the family to another being the first ever orthopaedic surgeon of a major university. While some pioneers delved deep in the lab to push the boundaries of surgical care, others strived to make high quality hand surgery available to the masses. However, what united them all was an unwavering commitment to their patients' well-being and a willingness to go above and beyond to attain their objectives. The International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) celebrates the spirit of enthusiasm, sacrifice and commitment to the cause of hand surgery by recognising these pioneers during the triennial IFSSH congress. Each biographical article in this anthology was written by someone who has closely known or collaborated with the featured pioneer. Each of these trailblazers has a story that will stir emotions and inspire others. We believe it's important to share these narratives to motivate the younger generation. By doing so, we hope to inspire them to follow in their footsteps, provide exceptional care to their patients and collectively create a better world to live in.
Book Synopsis From Additive Manufacturing to 3D/4D Printing 3 by : Jean-Claude André
Download or read book From Additive Manufacturing to 3D/4D Printing 3 written by Jean-Claude André and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a turnover of some 5-15 billion € / year, the additive manufacturing has industrial niches bearers thanks to processes and materials more and more optimized. While some niches still exist on the application of additive techniques in traditional fields (from jewelery to food for example), several trends emerge, using new concepts: collective production, realization of objects at once (without addition Of material), micro-fluidic, 4D printing exploiting programmable materials and materials, bio-printing, etc. There are both opportunities for new markets, promises not envisaged less than 10 years ago, but difficulties in reaching them.
