The young, mildly schizophrenic Marvin Schwartz travels to learn about life. The people he meets and the events he lives shape his ideas of what God wants for us all. After too many cheap draft beers he learns from the mysterious Zeke Parsnip who smokes unfiltered cigarettes which never burn down and drinks from a glass of beer which is always full. Those lessons he writes down each morning in a loose-leaf notebook with the past night's beery excesses weighing on his brain. That notebook would later inspire the ambitious but unsuccessful Dave Weak to create The Pocontia Valley Non-Denominational Church of the Followers of Zeke Parsnip. At last his fortune was made. That church would survive and flourish long after Marvin Schwartz was gone. Late in his life, the destitute old man Marvin Schwartz has unsettling weird recurring dreams about God and Heaven.

Download or read book Wilde West written by Walter Satterthwait and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2012-04-10 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A ruthless killer shadows Oscar Wilde across the frontier in this “perfect blend of mystery, satire and travelogue” by the author of Miss Lizzie (Publishers Weekly). An outrageously controversial literary icon in Great Britain, Irish poet, novelist, and playwright Oscar Wilde has taken his act to America in 1882. The renowned wit is thrilling audiences on his tour of the American West, while gleefully soaking in the rugged ambiance of dusty cow towns and rough saloons. But all isn’t well on the lecture circuit. At every stop, soon after Wilde’s arrival, eviscerated corpses of redheaded prostitutes are turning up—a grim “coincidence” that hasn’t been lost on dour, alcoholic federal marshal Bob Grigsby. Apparently there’s a serial killer hiding among the writer’s traveling entourage: a motley group of managers, servants, and European aristocrats that has lately included the famed gunman John “Doc” Holliday. Between his liaisons with married admirer Elizabeth McCourt Doe and fending off potential assaults by unamused cowboys, the flamboyant dandy decides it might be prudent to assist Grigsby in his investigation. After all, his reputation has already been savaged. Unmasking a killer might help to repair it—as long as the manhunt remains entertaining enough . . . and Wilde lives to quip another day.

Book Synopsis The Infinite in Mathematics by : Felix Kaufmann
Download or read book The Infinite in Mathematics written by Felix Kaufmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main item in the present volume was published in 1930 under the title Das Unendliche in der Mathematik und seine Ausschaltung. It was at that time the fullest systematic account from the standpoint of Husserl's phenomenology of what is known as 'finitism' (also as 'intuitionism' and 'constructivism') in mathematics. Since then, important changes have been required in philosophies of mathematics, in part because of Kurt Godel's epoch-making paper of 1931 which established the essential in completeness of arithmetic. In the light of that finding, a number of the claims made in the book (and in the accompanying articles) are demon strably mistaken. Nevertheless, as a whole it retains much of its original interest and value. It presents the issues in the foundations of mathematics that were under debate when it was written (and in some cases still are); , and it offers one alternative to the currently dominant set-theoretical definitions of the cardinal numbers and other arithmetical concepts. While still a student at the University of Vienna, Felix Kaufmann was greatly impressed by the early philosophical writings (especially by the Logische Untersuchungen) of Edmund Husser!' He was never an uncritical disciple of Husserl, and he integrated into his mature philosophy ideas from a wide assortment of intellectual sources. But he thought of himself as a phenomenologist, and made frequent use in all his major publications of many of Husserl's logical and epistemological theses.

Download or read book The Missional Life written by Joe Waresak and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Missional Life is not another book looking to give you a new program or model. It is a book with a biblical message aimed at one greater purpose: To encourage the body of Christ to live the mission of Christ. I like the idea of living life on mission. It reminds me that I am not to get too comfortable or feel too at home while I live on this earth. One profound truth about being a sent one is that there is usually a clear reason for being sent]a purpose. What strikes me about The Missional Life, written by my friend Joe Waresak, is the challenge to live life intentionally, according to the deepest purpose in life, which is the glory of God. Dr. Jeffrey A. Gill, Dean-School of Ministry Studies of Grace Theological Seminary The sensitive, personal, and timely manner in which Joe calls men to action is obviously a gift from God. Joe and his family show genuine concern for people and are constantly involved in the lives of others. Our family and ministry have been blessed and impacted by Joes passion and drive to see the Word of God change lives and ultimately the church permanently. Bart Allen, Missionary to the tribal people of Papua New Guinea Joe Waresak is the founder and director of Seek First Ministries, a ministry dedicated to seeing the love of Christ lived out in our homes and communities. He has over a decade of leadership experience in both the business and non-profit sectors. In addition, he has a B.S. in Secondary Education and a Master of Ministry from Grace Theological Seminary. He is married to Sherry and they have four childrenTyler, Danielle, Matthew, and Zachary. Visit Seek First Ministries at www.seekfirstmin.org.
