Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 3:6 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 How fortunate we are to serve and worship an unchanging God. God does not change his love. He loves us with an everlasting love. Before we loved Him, He loved us, and sent his son to die for us. God does not change his mercy. His mercies are new every day and endures forever. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Psalms 100:5 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever. In this generation, as in every generation, in order to worship the unchanging God, we must surrender everything to him. We must obey his every loving command. Our worship of God is not an individual right; it is not based on what we feel in our hearts. It is a privilege, which our generation, and every generation share with the holy angels. What a privilege it is to serve, and worship an unchanging God, in an ever-changing world. Francis V. Arthur is a dedicated Christian. His mission is to teach others about the unchanging God, His love, his mercy and his ways.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Misunderstandings about what it means for humans to be created in God's image have wreaked devastation throughout history -- for example, slavery in the U. S., genocide in Nazi Germany, and the demeaning of women everywhere. In Dignity and Destiny John Kilner explores what the Bible itself teaches about humanity being in God's image. He discusses in detail all of the biblical references to the image of God, interacts extensively with other work on the topic, and documents how misunderstandings of it have been so problematic. People made according to God's image, Kilner says, have a special connection with God and are intended to be a meaningful reflection of him. Because of sin, they don't actually reflect him very well, but Kilner shows why the popular idea that sin has damaged the image of God is mistaken. He also clarifies the biblical difference between being God's image (which Christ is) and being in God's image (which humans are). He explains how humanity's creation and renewal in God's image are central, respectively, to human dignity and destiny. Locating Christ at the center of what God's image means, Kilner charts a constructive way forward and reflects on the tremendously liberating impact that a sound understanding of the image of God can have in the world today.

Book excerpt: Why is God's beauty often absent from our theology? Rarely do theologians take up the theme of God's beauty—even more rarely do they consider how God's beauty should shape the task of theology itself. But the psalmist says that the heart of the believer's desire is to behold the beauty of the Lord. In The Beauty of the Lord, Jonathan King restores aesthetics as not merely a valid lens for theological reflection, but an essential one. Jesus, our incarnate Redeemer, displays the Triune God's beauty in his actions and person, from creation to final consummation. How can and should theology better reflect this unveiled beauty? The Beauty of the Lord is a renewal of a truly aesthetic theology and a properly theological aesthetics.

Book excerpt: Sometimes we ask What is God’s will for my life? when we should really be asking Who should I be? The Bible has an answer: Be like the very image of God. By exploring ten characteristics of who God is—holy, loving, just, good, merciful, gracious, faithful, patient, truthful, and wise—this book helps us understand who God intends for us to be. Through Christ, the perfect reflection of the image of God, we will discover how God’s own attributes impact how we live, leading to freedom and purpose as we follow his will and are conformed to his image.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God made human beings in his image and that is what makes us so valuable. Yet there are vastly different ideas of what the image means and how sin affects the image, and each of those ideas impacts the claim that the image grounds human value. People have treated one another in either horrible or wonderful ways based on their theologies of the image. This book examines the logical implications of various image doctrines in the real world. Also, in Genesis 1:26–27, the image of God is closely tied to the first stated purposes of human life in Genesis 1:28. Yet such practical purposes seem remote from the private spirituality of the gospel story often heard in churches. To live out our part in God’s creation project, we need to understand the image of God within the unfolding story Scripture narrates from creation to new creation. This book builds a theology of the image of God by situating it firmly in the biblical narrative, harnessing the insights of biblical theology, and conversing with theologians past and present to form a coherent story of God, his children, and his creation in this age and the age to come.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Chris Kugler situates Paul’s imago Dei theology within the complex and contested context of second-temple Judaism and early Christianity in the Greco-Roman world. He argues that Paul adapted the Jewish wisdom and Middle Platonic traditions regarding divine intermediaries so as to present the preexistent Jesus as the cosmogonical image of God (according to which Adam himself was made) and toward which the whole of humanity was destined. In this way, Paul includes Jesus within the most exclusive theological category of second-temple Jewish monotheism: cosmogonical activity. Paul’s imago Dei christology, therefore, is a clear instance of “christological monotheism.” Moreover, Kugler demonstrates that this interpretation of Paul’s imago Dei theology allows for a fresh reading of some of the most contested texts in Paul’s letters: 2 Corinthians 3–4; Romans 7–8; and Colossians 1.15–20; 3.10. He demonstrates that at the rhetorical level, Paul presents himself and his sympathizers as true philosophers who attain to the (Middle Platonic) telos of true philosophy: the image of God; while he presents his opponents as advocates of an empty and deceitful philosophy.

Identifying the Image of God traces the theme of identification--and its liberal Christian roots--through the literature of social reform, focusing on sentimental novels, temperance tales, and slave narratives, and invites contemporary activists to revive the "politics of identification."

Book excerpt: It can no longer be assumed that most people--or even most Christians--have a basic understanding of the Bible. Many don't know the difference between the Old and New Testament, and even the more well-known biblical figures are often misunderstood. It is getting harder to talk about Jesus accurately and compellingly because listeners have no proper context with which to understand God's story of redemption. In this basic introduction to faith, D. A. Carson takes seekers, new Christians, and small groups through the big story of Scripture. He helps readers to know what they believe and why they believe it. The companion leader's guide helps evangelistic study groups, small groups, and Sunday school classes make the best use of this book in group settings.

His uncompromising faithfulness to scriptural and patristic tradition, coupled with his constant concern for an articulate Orthodox witness in the West, are indispensable for understanding the theology of the Eastern Church. Here, in twelve essays, he explores the implications of the Orthodox understanding of the human being's destiny--communion in love with the true God.

Book excerpt: There are other books on Creation and dealing with the issues of Genesis 1, but this one is different. Rick Phillips takes us through the first chapter of Genesis with an absolute confidence that this is the plain, accurate Word of God, describing creation in six literal days of 24 hours. He looks at the alternatives offered and explains clearly and simply why they are inadequate. The science-based criticisms of the Word of God are considered and dealt with. The language used is accessible to most readers, and at each stage the Gospel is clearly explained. Christians generally will find this book a great encouragement amidst the deluge of pro-evolution propaganda, school students will find themselves strengthened to take a biblical stand against the pressures of the education system. If your evangelistic outreach leads you to someone who wants a clear and rational explanation of why the Bible should believed over against the common understanding of evolution presented in the media, this is the book to give them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our image of God reveals not only God’s character, but our own. Who is Jesus? Is Jesus more immanent (human) or transcendent (divine)? Because we are created in the image of God and Jesus is divine, the church struggles to define Jesus. This impulse can be a genuine attempt to know God better or it can be an insidious attempt to create God in our own image. This struggle is often tinged with a bit of both. The Letter to the Church at Thessalonica was likely the first book written in the New Testament. In a literary sense, the implication is that the Apostle Paul is the father of the New Testament. Paul only knew the Risen Christ and, for him, the divinity of Christ was obvious. By contrast, the Gospels that record the humanity of Christ were written almost a generation later. Thus, the transcendence problem facing postmodern people that fixates on the humanity of Christ is relatively new. My recent book, Image and Illumination (2023), asked the question—What does it mean to be created in the image of God?— focused on Christian anthropology. Embedded in this question is the metaphysical question: Who is God? The New Testament addresses this question with three pictures of God: The person of Jesus, Jesus' teaching about God the Father in the parables, and the founding of the church on Pentecost by the Holy Spirit. In this book, I focus on the Image of God in the Person of Jesus. Hear the Words; Walk the Steps; Experience the Joy!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book that demonstrates how a person can get the image of God. Adam and Eve were created in the image of God but lost it. They were given freedom of choice. Unfortunately, they rejected God and chose the way of Satan, which has been passed on to all of us down through the centuries from parent to child. The Bible is accepted as truth. Every step of the way taken here is documented by the Bible. Scientific discoveries are introduced to form a basis for understanding and to compliment biblical references. Children born after Seth were born in the evil image of Adam and Eve. God was so deeply grieved by the evil intentions of Seth's descendants that he sent the flood to destroy all of mankind. Noah was favored by God, but even so, he was still of the lineage of Seth. The Old Testament is filled with the sinful acts of God's chosen children, but the faithful unchanging God had a plan which He brought to pass in the person of Jesus. This book provides a penetrating and dramatic picture of how God has implemented His plan to the present time.
