Book excerpt: The "Snowtown" murders (also known as the bodies in barrels murders) were a series of murders committed by John Bunting, Robert Wagner, and James Vlassakis between August 1992 and May 1999, in and around Adelaide, South Australia. A fourth person, Mark Haydon, was convicted for helping to dispose of the bodies. The trial was one of the longest and most publicized in Australian legal history. During the 1990s, a small town in Australia witnessed first-hand how devastating, horrendous, and effective a gang of serial killers could be. Snowtown, South Australia, was a sleepy little community. After John Bunting convinced his accomplices to embark on a killing spree, however, it would never be the same. This is the story of the Snowtown Murders. It takes a particular kind of psychopath to not only carry out torture and murder but also to bring in others on the act. In this book, we will learn how one man was able to convince regular men that what he was doing was not only right but also that they should join in. Together, the gang of four men became responsible for what was later known as the "bodies in the barrels" murders. How could seemingly ordinary folk be so easily convinced to commit horrific crimes? Brutal murder, the carving up of bodies, and the moving of corpses to stay one step ahead of the police. The series of homicides was one of the worst in Australian history.

Book excerpt: SERIAL KILLERS AND THEIR MO: The Shocking Strategies Serial Killers Use To Murder And Get Away With ItThe 1970s and 1980s saw the rise of a terrifying new type of criminal: the serial killer. To this day, the serial killer remains the most feared type of predator to exist among the common collective. The allure of the serial killer is as terrifying as itis fascinating, particularly in relation to the rare-but-gruesome cases which involve torture, mutilation, or any other aspect of unnecessary cruelty. The sadistic nature of the serial killer lends itself to public fascination, which in turn creates a recurring cycle of fear and violence driven by the fact that, unlike crimes of passion or gang-related deaths, serial killers almost exclusively target strangers as their victims. This book looks at the serial killer mindset, and the shocking strategies these brutal murderers use in pursuit of their murderous goals. Featuring a study of serial killers including Richard Ramirez, Edmund Kemper, David Parker Ray, Dean Corll, this book explores the most heinous crimes imaginable.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In every round, crime can be seen running parallel to society in every way. As the saying goes, sometimes the culprit is present in the house itself. This is also true. Along with the good, evil has always existed on earth since the beginning of time. Evil is a broad term that encompasses a wide range of wrongdoings, such as lying, stealing, various types of crime, murder, rape, corruption, and so on. Why does a person become a criminal? People interpret this question differently, but it is almost impossible to give a solid reason. Many people say that the environment of the house or society is responsible for this. Many people blame poverty. Many people blame illiteracy. But it has been seen that all kinds of people, poor or rich, educated or uneducated, have been found involved in crime. Seeing this, it can be said that the reasons given by the experts may or may not be responsible for this. But after reading these stories, it can be decided that bad deeds have bad consequences. It is best to avoid them. The book presents the heart-wrenching true stories of some of the world's most heinous serial killers and their crimes.

Book excerpt: Discover the chilling true stories of killers who stalked their victims undetected and remain free to this day... When you hear the word "monsters", you probably conjure visions of gruesome and otherworldly creatures -- vampires, spirits, demons, and more. Yet the most terrifying monsters in history aren't the ones you see on the big screen. No horror movie music cues when you cross paths with them or when they spot their first victim. No, these vicious killers are much subtler. These monsters are people. These are the killers who will walk away from a murder scene completely unphased by what they've done. The ones who pitilessly dump or hide bodies and then go about their day as usual. While you're likely familiar with the famous serial killers who have had their faces plastered on every television screen, that's only a part of the picture. One reason that people find these criminals so compelling is because they can rest easy at night knowing justice has been served, and the world has been made a little safer. Yes, these killers are shocking and perverse, yet there's a sense of comfort in knowing they won't be hunting for victims any time soon. But what about those who go undetected? In Unsolved Serial Killers, here is just a fraction of what you will discover: Explorations of the cities and historical contexts of the killings, so you understand the atmosphere when they were taking place In-depth profiles of the victims of each killer and what happened to them Comprehensive looks at the investigations, suspects, and actions of law enforcement while trying to identify the perpetrators The conspiracy theories and lasting legacies that surround these unknown predators The methodology of the killers and what those distinct patterns might reveal about their twisted inner psyche How gangs of serial killers like the Mad Killers of Belgium enthralled communities with fear and paranoia Public reactions to the murder sprees and the surprising ways that public opinion influenced investigations And much more. If you're a true crime junkie you may think you know the world of serial killers inside and out -- but prepare to be surprised by what you find within these pages. Many of these criminals' stories have been nearly lost to time, discarded amongst the drama and pace of the modern news cycle. Others have been eclipsed by even more horrific crimes that took place after their reign of terror. Yet their impact on the families and friends of the victims will never fade. These accounts are both thorough and compelling and will have you on the edge of your seat. As the investigation opens out and links are made to other unsolved murders in the Vale of York and beyond, the net seems to be closing around a mysterious gang of killers and a vow of silence that’s been kept for two decades. But when a new body is discovered in a local wood, is that pact about to be tested?

Book excerpt: Are you afraid of things that go bump in the night? Don't look now, but some of the most gruesome serial murders occured in your neighborhood. Fourteen-year-old Jesse Pomeroy had a long history of terrorizing and brutalizing young boys around Boston, then his thoughts turned to murder. Meet America's youngest serial killer. When asked why he did it, all he could say was: "I don't know. I had to." The Servant Girl Murders in Austin, Texas during 1885 puzzled investigators. Three black servant girls, and one of their boyfriends, were brutally beaten and raped in the dark of the night. Texans didn't take it seriously until two white women lost their lives on Christmas Eve. The killer was never found, but many speculate he went on to fame as Jack the Ripper, London's famed Whitechapel killer. Henry Bastian, a Milan, Illinois farmer devised a unique method of getting cheap labor. He paid his farmhands a few dollars up front and promised them big money at the end of a years' service. Then he killed them, instead of paying them. At least nine young men lost their lives to his scheme. Belle Gunness, the La Porte, Indiana serial killer, lured men to her murder farm by advertising for a husband in Scandinavian Matrimonial Magazines. As many as forty-two men fell victim to her wiles. The Sunday Night Murderer rode the rails in the Midwest spreading terror in his wake. Twenty-five men, women, and children fell victim to his ax between 1911 and 1912. He slipped into homes in the middle of the night, bashed his victims heads to a pulp, and moved on without leaving a clue to his identity. The Dayton Strangler took six victims between 1900 and 1909. He lured them away to a quiet area, choked them nearly to death, then assaulted them. When he finished, the strangler dumped his victims in outhouse vaults. Henry Spencer, Chicago's "Tango Murderer," killed upwards of thirty men and women. "I became cold-blooded," he said. "For five-cents, I would kill a man and drink his blood." After his capture he reveled the police with stories about how he took his victims. Bertha Gifford was a typical grandma, except for her tendency for homicide. She poisoned at least nineteen people she was charged with nursing back to health. After her arrest, she told detectives, "Arsenic helped me. I thought it might help them, too." After you read it, you will never look at your neighbors the same way.

Discover the true stories behind celebrity murderers whose names have become legend, including Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson, Leonard Lake and Charles Ng, as well as the chilling truth about psychopaths such as Anatoly Onoprienko, whose urge to murder whole families was suppressed by the USSR and has only recently come to light. Whatever the personal stories that emerge from this line-up of fifty twisted individuals, Serial Killers is a compelling testament, and warning, of the potential of human behaviour for true horror and pure evil.

Book excerpt: The shocking truth behind the headlines, and the links between UK and U.S. gangsters Although organized criminal groups have been an ever-present menace, in the last decade gangs have snowballed into one of the most terrifying problems today. Seducing disillusioned youngsters into their ranks, vicious crews have declared open war in a desperate attempt gain control of the lucrative drug trade. Murder, kidnapping, and intimidation have become all too common. This chilling guide examines the rising, bloody tide of gang violence that threatens to engulf communities around the world. In south Manchester, the feud between the Gooch Gang and the Doddingtons became so vicious that peacekeepers from the Crips and Bloods flew in from Los Angeles to broker a deal. In the U.S., the Crips now boast some 35,000 members--Caucasian, Latino, Asian, and African American--while the Bloods have made an alliance with the old-time Lucchese crime family, once one of the Five Families of New York and still a pillar of the Cosa Nostra.

Book excerpt: This book presents an in-depth psychological analysis of the development of the serial killer personality that will fascinate all readers, from the experienced criminology student to the casual true-crime reader. Real-Life Monsters: A Psychological Examination of the Serial Murderer takes a different approach than most titles on a similar topic: the author develops and proposes an original psychological explanation, rather than simply repeating some of the long-held theories for these criminals' heinous actions. The work addresses current issues, presents detailed commentary and personal observation, and contains photographs that will fascinate general readers interested in the subjects of true crime, serial killers, and psychopathology. The first part of the book carefully examines the research past and present regarding clinical, psychological, societal, and biological bases for violent behavior, specific to the serial murderer. Part two establishes a novel theory of the pattern of violence and then explores this hypothesis through eight case studies, interviews with serial killers, and elemental analysis. The work also contains a chapter based on conversations between the author and a convicted serial murderer.

He did so as he meandered in and out of maximum security prisons where he spent more than half of his life. Sentenced to reform school at age thirteen he honed his skills in the use of extreme violence. The horror of his crimes is played out against the backdrop of one of the most rural areas of South Carolina during the tumultuous change from absolute segregation to forced integration. In a lifestyle of absolute lawlessness Gaskins exercised a bizarre charismatic control over the women who surrounded him and ruled his little gang of miscreants with violence and murder. Sometimes driving a hearse and bragging of a private graveyard he maintained a macabre and confusing presence to those he encountered. Diminutive at five feet three inches and one hundred thirty pounds he feared no man and struck fear in most. Undaunted by arrests and imprisonment he conducted a crusade of murder and mayhem over nearly three decades and killed more than fifty people. His motives were as varied as his methods.

These hunters search not for animals, but for the touch, taste, and empowerment of human flesh. They are cannibals, vampires and monsters, and they walk among us. These serial killers are not mythical beasts with horns and shaggy hair. They are people living in society, going about their day-to-day activities until nightfall. They are the Dennis Rader's, the fathers, husbands, church-going members of the community. This A-Z encyclopedia of 150 serial killers is the ideal reference book. Included are the most famous true crime serial killers, like Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, and Richard Ramirez, and not to mention the women who kill, such as Aileen Wuornos and Martha Rendell. There are also lesser-known serial killers, covering many countries around the world, so the range is broad. Each of the serial killer files includes information on when and how they killed the victims, the background of each killer, or the suspects in some cases such as the Zodiac killer, their trials and punishments. For some, there are chilling quotes by the killers themselves. The Big Book of Serial Killers is an easy-to-follow collection of information on the world's most heinous murderers.
