Download or read book Grand Delusions written by Hillel Levin and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-07-02 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a new AFTERWORD about the extreme measures DeLorean took to stop this book--as first revealed in the 2018 documentary, FRAMING JOHN DE LOREAN... WHEN IN OCTOBER 1982 THE FLAMBOYANT AUTO EXECUTIVE JOHN DELOREAN was arrested for possession of over sixteen million dollars' worth of cocaine, the world was aghast and fascinated. FEW STARS HAD SHONE MORE BRIGHTLY THAN HIS: he was an "A" student who didn't need to crack a book, a brilliant engineer renowned for saving Pontiac, a visionary entrepreneur who shot to the top of GM and then left it behind, a reputedHollywood swinger, and a charismatic millionaire who seemed to care about the little people who worked for him. But there was a darker side to the DeLorean story, a side that more and more clouded his life until he was forced into what most believe was a last desperate attempt to save the two-year-old auto factory in Northern Ireland and its startling gull-winged stainless steel cars.FROM THE SHATTERED FRAGMENTS OF DELOREAN'S ACTS AND DREAMS, investigative journalist Hillel Levin--who began to look closely at the truth behind the image a year before anyone else did--has pieced together a fascinating picture of the man behind this contemporary myth. From the beginning, DeLorean's flight was fueled by a remarkable talent for financial legerdemain and corporate intrigue. Through meticulous research and interviews with the players in DeLorean's inner circle, Levin tracks the court cases and the lawsuits that accompanied his ascent, disentangles his convoluted and bizarre business schemes, explores the labyrinth of holding companies and paper corporations that channeled huge sums of other people's money into his personal control, and reconstructs the saga of the gull-winged car that, until the last, De Lorean believed would rise, Phoenix-like, from the ashes.AUTHORITATIVELY RESEARCHED FROM DETROIT TO BELFAST, packed with new information, GRAND DELUSIONS is a riveting, uniquely American story, and a cautionary tale of genius misapplied in the service of a runaway ego.

Book Synopsis The Ottoman Threat and Crusading on the Eastern Border of Christendom during the 15th Century by : Liviu Pilat
Download or read book The Ottoman Threat and Crusading on the Eastern Border of Christendom during the 15th Century written by Liviu Pilat and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Ottoman Threat and Crusading on the Eastern Border of Christendom during the Fifteenth Century Liviu Pilat and Ovidiu Cristea focus on less-known aspects of the later crusades in Eastern Europe, examining the ideals of holy war and political pragmatism. They analyze the Ottoman threat and crusading as political themes through a unifying vision based in the political realities of the fifteenth century and the complex relationship between crusading, Ottoman expansion, and the political interests of the Christian states in the region. Approaching the relationship between the borders of Christendom and crusading as a highly complex phenomenon, Pilat and Cristea introduce new elements to the image of Latin Christendom's frontier from the perspective of Catholic-Orthodox relations, frontier ideology, and crusading rhetoric in political propaganda.
Book Synopsis The Roots of Balkanization by : Ion Grumeza
Download or read book The Roots of Balkanization written by Ion Grumeza and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2010 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Balkanization" is a modern term describing the fragmentation and re-division of countries and nations in the Balkan Peninsula, as well as a dynamic meaning "the Balkan way of doing things." The Roots of Balkanization describes the historical changes that took place in the Balkan Peninsula after the collapse of the Roman Empire and their impact in Eastern lands. It develops conclusions reached in the author's previous book, Dacia: Land of Transylvania, Cornerstone of Ancient Eastern Europe, covering 500 B.C.-A.D. 500. Balkan multi-ethnicity was formed after the fifth century, when barbarian invaders settled and violently mixed with the native ancient nations. By the use of sword and terror, warlords became kings and their confederations of tribes became state nations. New societies emerged under the blessing of the Orthodox Church, only to fight against each other over disputed land that eventually came to be occupied by other invaders. The involvement of western powers and the Ottoman expansion triggered more grievances and violence, culminating with the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and the end of the Byzantine Empire. The medieval culture of the Balkans survived and continues to play a major role in how business and political life is conducted today in Eastern Europe. Book jacket.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now recognised as the standard work on the subject, Realm of St Stephen is a comprehensive history of medieval Eastern and Central Europe. Pál Engel traces the establishment of the medieval kingdom of Hungary from its conquest by the Magyar tribes in 895 until defeat by the Ottomans at the Battle of Mohacs in 1526. He shows the development of the dominant Magyars who, upon inheriting an almost empty land, absorbed the remaining Slavic peoples into their culture after the original communities had largely disappeared. Engel's book is an accessible and highly readable history. 'This is now the standard English language treatment of medieval Hungary - its internal history as well as its regional and European significance.' --- P W Knoll, University of Southern Carolina (From 'Choice') 'A lively and highly readable narrative ' --- Albrecht Classen, University of Arizona (From 'Mediaevistik')
