Book Synopsis Early Jewish Settlement Patterns in Palestine, 1882-1914 by : Yossi Ben-Artzi

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jewish settlement patterns in Palestine are of interest because of their co-operative forms, the Kibbutz and the Moshav. However, the Jews preferred a different type of pioneer settlement: the Moshavah. For over 30 years the early settlers chose the Moshavah as the type of settlement most suited to lead them to their basic goal: creating a Jewish village, and structuring a 'new' Jew -- a farmer who would live on his land and so lay the cornerstone of a renewed 'national home'. The cultural landscape of the Moshavah, its planning its design and development, constitute the subject of this book, which studies the ideological aspirations of Jewish pioneers in Palestine and illustrates the link between ideology and landscape in their settlement patterns.

Book Synopsis The Jewish Community of Acre in Mandatory Palestine by : Anat Kidron

This book was released on 2024-05-20 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a brief moment in the history of Acre, there was a Hebrew community that linked old and new settlements. It had a national-Zionist orientation and consisted of Jews of local and Mizrachic origin. This community is no longer visible in the cityscape, and its history has disappeared from the collective Zionist memory - but it played a role in building the Jewish national community in Palestine. The unusual history of Acre shows how it succeeded in attracting new, nationalist settlers. The book seeks to illuminate the complexity and diversity of the Zionist enterprise in relation to the Arab and mixed towns of Mandatory Palestine by raising questions about the relationship between the "history of a place" and "national history." By describing the failure of the Hebrew settlement in the Mandate territory of Acre, the book views the Zionist project as a fascinating intersection between the dreams of those who created the leading narratives and between local interests and the unique geographical conditions of the region.

Book Synopsis Jewish Agricultural Colonies in New Jersey, 1882-1920 by : Ellen Eisenberg
Download or read book Jewish Agricultural Colonies in New Jersey, 1882-1920 written by Ellen Eisenberg and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 1995-08-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the synagogues are gone; a temple has been converted into a Baptist church. There is little indication to the passerby that the southern New Jersey’s Salem and Cumberland counties once contained active Jewish colonies—the largest and most successful in fact, of the settlement experiments undertaken by Russian-Jewish immigrants in America during the late nineteenth century. Ellen Eisenberg’s work focuses on the transformation of these colonies over a period of four decades, from agrarian, communal colonies to private mixed industrial-agricultural communities. The colonies grew out of the same “back to the land” sentiment that led to the development of the first modern Jewish agricultural settlements in Palestine. Founded in 1882, the settlements survived for over thirty years. The community of Alliance’s population alone grew to nearly 1000 by 1908.Originally established as socialistic agrarian settlements by young idealists from the Russian Jewish Am Olam movement, the colonies eventually became dependent on industrial employment, based on private ownership. The early independent, ideological settlers ultimately clashed with the financial sponsors and the migrants they recruited, who did not share the settlers’ communitarian and agrarian goals.
Book Synopsis Land, Labor and the Origins of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, 1882-1914 by : Gershon Shafir
Download or read book Land, Labor and the Origins of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, 1882-1914 written by Gershon Shafir and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1996-08-19 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gershon Shafir challenges the heroic myths about the foundation of the State of Israel by investigating the struggle to control land and labor during the early Zionist enterprise. He argues that it was not the imported Zionist ideas that were responsible for the character of the Israeli state, but the particular conditions of the local conflict between the European "settlers" and the Palestinian Arab population.
Download or read book Palestine written by Albert M. Hyamson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1942, Palestine is a brief history of Zionism, interspersed with a wealth of observation stimulation for the seeker of objective truth. The author develops his own theories of Jewish racialism, nationalism and colonization, and elaborates on the role of Britain with respect to Zionism in Palestine. He also expands on the binary of a spiritual Zionism and a territorial neo-Zionism stating that former believed in peaceful coexistence with the Arab population in Palestine, while the latter is only invested in aggressive nationalism. The language used is a reflection of its era and no offence is meant by the Publishers to any reader by this republication. This book will be of interest to students of history, political science, international relations and geography.
