Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial training is an important factor in international competitiveness. It is widely recognized that British industrial training lags behind major international competitors such as Germany, France and Japan. This book seeks to explain why this is so, and concludes with policy proposals. The first part of the book provides an overview of the history of the British education and training system. The second part analyzes industrial training policy subsequent to the Industrial Training Act of 1964. There is wide political interest in training policy in Britain. One of the central issues is whether Government's role should be largely confined to the provision of advice or encouragement, or whether it should intervene more directly by means of financial incentives and penalties.
Book Synopsis Industrial Training and Technological Innovation by : Howard Gospel
Download or read book Industrial Training and Technological Innovation written by Howard Gospel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 211 pages. Book excerpt: Taking an international and comparative perspective, this book focuses on the relationship between industrial training and technological change in three major global economies – the UK, USA and Japan. The contributors, an international group of leading researchers, look at the origins and development of training in these countries, and analyse the benefits resulting from the interaction of a skilled workforce and technological change. This analysis of training in major industrial nations reveals the full complexity of the relationship between labour and technological change. It shows the value of an approach which is both historical and comparative, and highlights the importance of education and training as a necessary basis for successful innovation.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Industrial Training: With Special Reference to the Conditions Prevailing in London This book has gradually grown to its present scope out of an enquiry into which I originally entered as Shaw Student of the London School of Economics. A previous investigation into the problems of unemployment in the London Building Trades had impressed upon me the great importance of the question of training, and led me to start to examine it in relation to this industry. It soon became obvious, however, that the investigation required to cover a far wider field, and, as its subject-matter broadened, its title - mercifully - narrowed, till what began as Modern Methods of Industrial Training in the London Building Trades took final shape as Industrial Training. I have attempted to describe in my opening chapter the actual methods of enquiry which I adopted; but there is one point that requires to be emphasized here. This is that the book is mainly a description of the methods and conditions prevailing in London. I have tried, indeed, to compare and contrast them with those of other cities; but in the main it is an investigation of London, or rather of what is known nowadays as Greater London.
