Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring David Sedaris's unique blend of hilarity and heart, this new collection of keen-eyed animal-themed tales is an utter delight. Though the characters may not be human, the situations in these stories bear an uncanny resemblance to the insanity of everyday life. In "The Toad, the Turtle, and the Duck," three strangers commiserate about animal bureaucracy while waiting in a complaint line. In "Hello Kitty," a cynical feline struggles to sit through his prison-mandated AA meetings. In "The Squirrel and the Chipmunk," a pair of star-crossed lovers is separated by prejudiced family members. With original illustrations by Ian Falconer, author of the bestselling Olivia series of children's books, these stories are David Sedaris at his most observant, poignant, and surprising.

Book Synopsis Oh My Little Squirrel by : Julie Bill
Download or read book Oh My Little Squirrel written by Julie Bill and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you know me, you know about my love of the critters that come visit me almost every day. Of course, I am closest to my sweet friend, “Little squirrel” that visits me every night at 5:00pm for his peanuts. The minute he hears me shake the peanut bag he knows it is “din din” time and all but trips over his own little paws to get to the tree where I place the peanuts on a concrete block that sits at the bottom of his tree! He loves watching me as much as I enjoy watching him! I also have 2 feral cats; a little gray kitten and a big ole’ long haired black cat with a white chest that looks very handsome and formal in his “tuxedo” when he comes to eat each day. He always looks like he is bored with life when he looks at me with his large deep set orange eyes. Little gray kitten just loves picking on him too! These two are so funny! They always keep me amused. Oh! I have the cutest bunny ever that hops through my side yard every day (especially when we plant our garden!). My bunny is so adorable! He looks just like a precious brown and white Easter Bunny! And I can’t forget my redheaded woodpecker. He is HUGE! He is either up in a tree pecking on the bark, or working on the tree stump in our side yard; helping us take it to the ground. He is a handy fellow to have around! With this being said, the sweet little characters in my book are written after real ones that visit me each day in my yard. They make my front porch my happy place! I hope you enjoy reading “OH My Little Squirrel” and following my Little squirrel’s adventures as much as I enjoyed writing about them!

Download or read book Squirrel Nation written by Peter Coates and published by Reaktion Books. This book was released on 2023-09-12 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wide-ranging meditation on belonging and citizenship through the story of two squirrel species in Britain. Squirrel Nation is a history of Britain’s two species of squirrel over the past two hundred years: the much-loved, though rare, red squirrel and the less-desirable, though more populous, grey squirrel. A common resident of British gardens and parks, the grey squirrel was introduced from North America in the late nineteenth century and remains something of a foreign interloper. By examining this species’ rapid spread across Britain, Peter Coates explores timely issues of belonging, nationalism, and citizenship in Britain today. Ultimately, though people are swift to draw distinctions between British squirrels and squirrels in Britain, Squirrel Nation shows that Britain’s two squirrel species have much more in common than at first appears.
Book Synopsis Ecological Principles for Sustainable Education by : Liza Ireland
Download or read book Ecological Principles for Sustainable Education written by Liza Ireland and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-01-29 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how the education sector can transition to being truly sustainable and why necessary innovations for educational change are being subverted and undermined when mapped onto the existing industrial educational system. Based on PhD case study research with schools that are modelling and teaching sustainability, action research, and the author’s 40 years of working in the K-12 system, this volume examines how education continues to perpetuate the status quo, and why education innovations are thus undermined. It shows the importance of redesigning education based on the principles of sustainable living systems and explores how this can be achieved across all levels of the educational system. The first part of the book establishes a new vision of sustainable education, whilst the second brings to light the industrial mechanistic root metaphors in current practice across leadership and administration, buildings and grounds, curriculum design, teaching, and learning that are subverting innovative efforts. From understanding the foundational, influential, problematic root metaphors of our "Industrial" educational system, it moves to explore how the ecological principles of sustainability can be used to rethink and redesign an educational system, from its administration, leadership, and policy, to curriculum, buildings, grounds and resources, through to teaching and learning, that will support sustainability, innovation, and creativity, developing systems thinking and sustainability as a frame of mind. Exploring how the education sector can transition to being truly sustainable and find new ways to traverse the problematic "Industrial" world view at this pivotal moment, will appeal to administrators, post-secondary educators, policymakers, and researchers and scholars of sustainability education, educational leadership, curriculum design, and educational philosophy.
