At the same time as the cracks rise to the surface of this once idealised existence, so do pieces of a past Jacob has long since buried, an event so dark and brutal that until now even his own mind has protected him from it. Resisting Sada’s hand of friendship and the instinctive pull of the ‘outside world’, Jacob is forced into making a choice… Remain loyal to a doctrine he no longer believes in. Download or read book The Hidden Church of the Holy Graal written by Arthur Edward Waite and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2013 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reader who would reach to motives and inspirations, who would seek to understand the subtle and secret forces that have moved all history, it would be difiicult to name a work of greater interest or value than this. To the rarer reader who has come upon traces of an undying tradition——a Hidden Church or Wisdom--the book will be a very revelation. The Graal legend, even as it is known to the general reader, woven into the Arthurian epic, is one of rarest beauty and most profound meaning. But when its rich symbolism is revealed in full, the significance of the great quest, in the which pure-miuded and self-sacrificing valor is alone successful-—-the ‘magnitude of meaning is made evident. Perhaps no other man living is so well fitted as Mr. Waite to approach this subject. Under the ruder methods of materialistic critics the delicate beauty and subtle meanings would be lost. Our author combines the grasp of scholarship with the sympathetic attitude and the deep-lying knowledge of hidden things. This is the extended edition including an encyclopedic essay about The Holy Grail. From the Contents: Preface Book I - The Roots Of The House Of Meaning Book II - Mysteries Of The Holy Graal In Manifestation And Removal Book III - The Early Epochs Of The Quest Book IV - The Lesser Chronicles Of The Holt Graal Book V - The Greater Chronicles Of The Holy Graal Book VI - The German Cycle Of The Holy Graal Book VII - The Holy Graal In The Light Of The Celtic Church Book VIII - Mystic Aspects Of The Graal Legend Book IX - Secret Tradition In Christian Times Book X - The Secret Church

Book Synopsis Fortress of the Soul by : Neil Kamil
Download or read book Fortress of the Soul written by Neil Kamil and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 1085 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French Huguenots made enormous contributions to the life and culture of colonial New York during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Huguenot craftsmen were the city's most successful artisans, turning out unrivaled works of furniture which were distinguished by unique designs and arcane details. More than just decorative flourishes, however, the visual language employed by Huguenot artisans reflected a distinct belief system shaped during the religious wars of sixteenth-century France. In Fortress of the Soul, historian Neil Kamil traces the Huguenots' journey to New York from the Aunis-Saintonge region of southwestern France. There, in the sixteenth century, artisans had created a subterranean culture of clandestine workshops and meeting places inspired by the teachings of Bernard Palissy, a potter, alchemist, and philosopher who rejected the communal, militaristic ideology of the Huguenot majority which was centered in the walled city of La Rochelle. Palissy and his followers instead embraced a more fluid, portable, and discrete religious identity that encouraged members to practice their beliefs in secret while living safely—even prospering—as artisans in hostile communities. And when these artisans first fled France for England and Holland, then left Europe for America, they carried with them both their skills and their doctrine of artisanal security. Drawing on significant archival research and fresh interpretations of Huguenot material culture, Kamil offers an exhaustive and sophisticated study of the complex worldview of the Huguenot community. From the function of sacred violence and alchemy in the visual language of Huguenot artisans, to the impact among Protestants everywhere of the destruction of La Rochelle in 1628, to the ways in which New York's Huguenots interacted with each other and with other communities of religious dissenters and refugees, Fortress of the Soul brilliantly places American colonial history and material life firmly within the larger context of the early modern Atlantic world.
Download or read book All Things New written by Brock Bingaman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For both Maximus the Confessor (c. 580-662) and Jurgen Moltmann (b. 1926), understanding what it means to be human springs from a contemplative vision of God. This comparative study explores surprising parallels between the theological anthropology of the seventh-century Byzantine monk and the contemporary German Protestant. Bingaman argues that Maximus and Moltmann root their understanding of the human calling in their Trinitarian and christological reflection, in contrast to many modern theologies that tend to devise an account of human being first, and then try to find ways in which Christ and the Trinity are somehow relevant to this human being. In this constructive work, Bingaman demonstrates the intrinsic connection between Maximus' and Moltmann's views of human being, Christ and the Trinity, the church, and the human calling in creation. Illustrating the richness of these ancient and postmodern theologies in conversation, All Things New lays out future trajectories in theological anthropology, patristic ressourcement, ecologically attuned theology and spirituality, and Orthodox-Protestant dialogue.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Great book. Didn’t want to put it down.” “An intense read.” There’s a price to pay for loyalty When everyone else wants to bend the rules The men of the tribe have made their home in the empty buildings at the border, far from the demands and ruthless laws of those who control the city. Their only guidance is a doctrine that keeps them grounded, free from emotional disruption and at peace. At least, that was how it was meant to be… With their founder gone, the responsibility of the tribe falls to Jacob. Fiercely loyal to his predecessor he promises to care for its members, their values and the life they’ve created. But Jacob is not a natural leader, and when new deadly threats dog the city’s backstreets, some of the men are open to flexing the doctrine to serve the fallout – even if it means defying their new mentor. As tensions ripple through the group, Jacob feels the clutches of the city grip tighter than ever before. Not only in the dangers it might inflict at any moment, but in the temptations it offers, ones he’d thought he had left behind. Fearing he is losing control of the tribe entrusted to him, Jacob is pushed toward despair and the person he used to be… And when his dark past comes back to haunt him, he seizes it with both hands. Exposed is the dark and emotionally compelling story of a city divided, and the second book in the Hidden Sanctuary series
