Book Synopsis Glassy Semiconductors by : Z. Borisova
Download or read book Glassy Semiconductors written by Z. Borisova and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on glassy semiconductors continues to expand every year. This is evidenced by the ever-increasing number of articles devoted to glassy semiconductors and published in a great variety of periodicals. The time has come to systematize and generalize the abundant published experimental material. The first review of the experimental data on glass formation and the physicochemical and physical properties of chalcogenide glassy semi conductors was published by B. T. Kolorniets [1]. Glass formation in chalcogenide systems is the subject of a section in a monograph by Rawson [2]. In 1972 the Leningrad University published the author's books [3] dealing with the regularities of glass formation in cha1cogenide systems and containing a systematized exposition of some physicochemical properties of glassy cha1cogenide semiconductors. The monograph presented mainly results of research performed by the Semiconductor Chemistry Laboratory staff of the Leningrad University. These investigations were started at the initiative and under the dircction of Professor R. L. Myuller and wcre continued under the author's direction. The present monograph is a revised and substantially supplementcd version of the aforementioned publication. However, the extensive experimental material in the literature is far from completely presented. It contains mainly data on the research performed by the staff of the laboratory headed by the author. However, data obtained by other Soviet and foreign workers are represented to a greater degree in this book than in the preceding edition.

Book Synopsis Properties and Applications of Thermoelectric Materials by : Veljko Zlatic
Download or read book Properties and Applications of Thermoelectric Materials written by Veljko Zlatic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-24 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As concerns with the efficient use of energy resources, and the minimization of environmental damage have come to the fore, there has been a renewed interest in the role that thermoelectric devices could play in generating electricity from waste heat, enabling cooling via refrigerators with no moving parts, and many other more specialized applications. The main problem in realizing this ambition is the rather low efficiency of such devices for general applications. This book deals with the proceedings of a workshop addressed that problems by reviewing the latest experimental and theoretical work on suitable materials for device applications and by exploring various strategies that might increase their efficiency. The proceedings cover a broad range of approaches, from the experimental work of fabricating new compounds through to theoretical work in characterizing and understanding their properties. The effects of strong electron correlation, disorder, the proximity to metal-insulator transitions, the properties of layered composite materials, and the introduction of voids or cages into the structure to reduce the lattice thermal conductivity are all explored as ways of enhancing the efficiency of their use in thermoelectric devices.

Book Synopsis Lon Implantation in Semiconductors by : James Mayer
Download or read book Lon Implantation in Semiconductors written by James Mayer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ion Implantation in Semiconductors: Silicon and Germanium covers the developments in the major basic aspects in ion implantation in silicon and germanium. These aspects include dopant distribution and location, radiant damage, and electrical characteristics. This book is composed of six chapters and begins with a discussion on the factors affecting the electrical characteristics of implanted layers in silicon and germanium, such as range distributions of dopant species, lattice disorder, and location of dopant species on substitutional and interstitial sites in the lattice. The next chapters examine the basic principles of range distributions of implanted atoms and the problem of lattice disorder and radiation damage, which are vital in most implantation work. These topics are followed by an outline of the so-called channeling effect technique and its application in lattice location determination of implanted atoms. A chapter describes the dopant behavior in the layers where the majority of the implanted atoms are located, emphasizing the use of Hall-effect and sheet-resistivity measurements to determine the carrier concentration and mobility. The final chapter considers the primary characteristics of ion-implanted layers in semiconductors. This chapter also presents several rules of thumb, which allow first approximations to be made. This book is an ideal source for semiconductor specialists, researchers, and manufacturers.
