In 1850, Japan had remained veiled from the outside world for centuries, a secretive realm that held within its heart Edo. Within Edo lay Yoshiwara — "The Floating World," a center of unbridled pleasure. Deep within this enigmatic district stood the Hidden House, a sanctuary reserved for the elite, where geisha of extraordinary talent dwelled. Among them was Midori No Me, a woman of dual heritage — part Japanese, part foreigner. Born into captivity, she was trained from youth to devote herself to the wealthiest patrons in Japan, her innocence was auctioned at a tender age of thirteen. She found herself under the possession of a renowned kabuki actor before fate intervened, leading her into the hands of Edo's most formidable yakuza. This is the tale of the geisha who fled the intoxicating allure of the Floating World. This is the saga of The Geisha with the Green Eyes. For enthusiasts of Amy Tan's "The Valley of Amazement" and Arthur Golden's "Memoirs of a Geisha," "The Geisha with the Green Eyes" beckons with its sensuality, sentimentality, and captivating narrative, crafted by author India Millar. Book excerpt: X-Men meets Blake Crouch in the explosive conclusion to Daniel Price’s genre-bending Silvers trilogy about six extraordinary people whose fates become intertwined on an Earth far different from our own...one that is headed for utter destruction. It's been two years since the world collapsed in a sheet of light, obliterating everything on Earth...but not quite everyone. Saved from the apocalypse by three mysterious beings, sisters Hannah and Amanda Given were marked with silver bracelets, along with four other survivors from their native world, and transported to an entirely different Earth, a place where the fabric of time is manipulated by common household appliances. Afflicted with time-bending powers they never wanted, and on the run from unexpected new enemies, “the Silvers” embarked on a dangerous journey for survival across an alien America—a hunt for answers that bound the group like family while revealing the gravely sinister intentions of their so-called saviors. But their new Earth is about to suffer the same fate as the old one and the Silvers have only ten weeks to prevent it. Their one hope is to find the remaining survivors of their home world—a quest that will take them from Mexico to England to a radically changed Japan—to gain more allies for the final confrontation with the godlike beings who first brought them to this Earth. Failure will mean death for billions of people. But victory may come at a cost the Silvers can’t afford.

Acclaimed author Davida Wills Hurwin creates a riveting narrative told in alternating perspectives of their lives before and after the violent hate crime that changed both their futures. Book excerpt: “Syranda and magic are an interconnected tree with the same root, with many branches, and beautiful fruits in many shapes and colours.” Syranda is a hidden country whose peaceful, democratic system drifting almost unnoticed into dictatorship. An integral part of the people of Syranda are individuals with special skills who have been a great asset to the country's prosperous development throughout history. But in the last decade something has changed, and democracy has slowly eroded, slipping into dictatorship, led by Angelus, the Minister of Defence. The main pillar of the dictatorship's construction was the production of an enemy image. Anyone with ability began to be excluded and eventually persecuted. Angelus' daughter Vitu was also born with a special gift, which her father tried to hide from the world. When Vitu became a teenager, she had to face the fact that her father was more concerned with serving the regime and his own ambition than her life, and she too was forced to flee. In her search for a way out, she learned a lot about her abilities, her fellow human beings and herself. “Many people think that dictatorship will come suddenly, spectacularly, with a great blare of trumpets and horns, and that everyone will notice it, that one sacred moment when the trumpets blare and the drums beat, and a loudspeaker shouts, "Attention, attention, the dictatorship has arrived, the dictatorship is here, everyone should lock themselves in their houses, because the oppression has arrived, from now on it's what I, the dictator with the big hat and the red nose, dictate.” “The prey within us dies tonight and at dawn the predator will awake along with the sun!”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Successful London merchant Mr John Sudberry has decided to take his family and three of his servants away on a holiday to the Scottish Highlands. Plenty of beautiful walks, rowing and fishing trips, and picnics in the stunning scenery follow. Their holiday bliss is interrupted however when the family come across an elderly lady called Moggy, who seems to take a special interest in Sudberry's five-year old son Jacky. When Moggy’s secretive background returns to haunt her, the Sudberry family find themselves caught up in the mystery. An exciting story from the popular children’s author R.M. Ballantyne. R.M. Ballantyne (1825-1894) was a Scottish artist and prolific author of mostly children’s fiction. Born in Edinburgh, Ballantyne was the ninth of ten children. At the age of 16 Ballantyne moved to Canada, where he worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company, travelling all over the country to trade for fur. He returned to Scotland in 1847 following the death of his father, and it was then that he began his literary career in earnest, writing over 100 children’s adventure books over the course of his life. Stories such as ‘The Coral Island’ and ‘The Young Fur Traders’ were hugely popular, and many of them drew on his own experiences of travelling throughout Canada. A stickler for detail, Ballantyne continued to travel widely to research the backgrounds and settings for his exciting stories. His tales became an inspiration for authors of the future, including ‘Treasure Island’ novelist Robert Louis Stevenson. Ballantyne spent the latter period of his life living in London and Italy for the sake of his health. He died in Rome in 1894 at the age of 68.
