Disney historian Bob Sangwell's clever word search puzzles conceal key names, places, and things from over sixty of Disney's animated and live-action films. Each puzzle comes with a short historical introduction and features a hidden message. Beginning at the beginning, with Walt Disney's Laugh-O-grams, and ending with the recent animated film Coco, you'll find a word search search for each of your favorite Disney classic movies. Just like Walt Disney told his Imagineers to "plus" whatever they were working on, and make it even more magical, Bob plusses each humble word search with a hidden message, formed from the letters in the puzzle that are not used. The message relates to the topic of the puzzle and forms the basis for the short historical article that accompanies it. You'll not only find the magic...you'll learn about it, too!

Book Synopsis The Classroom Chef by : John Stevens
Download or read book The Classroom Chef written by John Stevens and published by . This book was released on 2016-03-30 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I just don't get math." If you're a math teacher, you probably can't count the number of times you've heard students, parents, and even fellow teachers make a disparaging statement about your subject. As math teachers and instructional coaches, John Stevens and Matt Vaudrey know how discouraging it feels to look out into a classroom full of disinterested and confused students. But they also know how amazing it feels to see comprehension dawn in their students' eyes - when a concept suddenly makes sense and math becomes meaningful. In The Classroom Chef, John and Matt share their secret recipes, ingredients, and tips for serving up lessons that engage students and help them "get" math. You can use these ideas and methods as-is, or better yet, tweak them and create your own enticing educational meals. The message the authors want to convey is that, with imagination and preparation, every teacher can be a Classroom Chef. Far from bland or boring, the lessons and ideas in The Classroom Chef spark curiosity-and occasionally bewilderment and awe (yes, in math class). After all, mullets, ziplines, and sharks aren't standard topics for typical math classes. But maybe they should be.

When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home. “Beautiful and propulsive . . . Book Synopsis Life Moves Pretty Fast by : Hadley Freeman
Download or read book Life Moves Pretty Fast written by Hadley Freeman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Vogue contributor and Guardian columnist Hadley Freeman, a personalized guide to eighties movies that describes why they changed movie-making forever—featuring exclusive interviews with the producers, directors, writers and stars of the best cult classics. For Hadley Freeman, movies of the 1980s have simply got it all. Comedy in Three Men and a Baby, Hannah and Her Sisters, Ghostbusters, and Back to the Future; all a teenager needs to know in Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Say Anything, The Breakfast Club, and Mystic Pizza; the ultimate in action from Top Gun, Die Hard, Beverly Hills Cop, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom; love and sex in 9 1/2 Weeks, Splash, About Last Night, The Big Chill, and Bull Durham; and family fun in The Little Mermaid, ET, Big, Parenthood, and Lean On Me. In Life Moves Pretty Fast, Hadley puts her obsessive movie geekery to good use, detailing the decade’s key players, genres, and tropes. She looks back on a cinematic world in which bankers are invariably evil, where children are always wiser than adults, where science is embraced with an intense enthusiasm, and the future viewed with giddy excitement. And, she considers how the changes between movies then and movies today say so much about society’s changing expectations of women, young people, and art—and explains why Pretty in Pink should be put on school syllabuses immediately. From how John Hughes discovered Molly Ringwald, to how the friendship between Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi influenced the evolution of comedy, and how Eddie Murphy made America believe that race can be transcended, this is a “highly personal, witty love letter to eighties movies, but also an intellectually vigorous, well-researched take on the changing times of the film industry” (The Guardian).

Book Synopsis Democratizing Innovation by : Eric Von Hippel
Download or read book Democratizing Innovation written by Eric Von Hippel and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2006-02-17 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The process of user-centered innovation: how it can benefit both users and manufacturers and how its emergence will bring changes in business models and in public policy. Innovation is rapidly becoming democratized. Users, aided by improvements in computer and communications technology, increasingly can develop their own new products and services. These innovating users—both individuals and firms—often freely share their innovations with others, creating user-innovation communities and a rich intellectual commons. In Democratizing Innovation, Eric von Hippel looks closely at this emerging system of user-centered innovation. He explains why and when users find it profitable to develop new products and services for themselves, and why it often pays users to reveal their innovations freely for the use of all.The trend toward democratized innovation can be seen in software and information products—most notably in the free and open-source software movement—but also in physical products. Von Hippel's many examples of user innovation in action range from surgical equipment to surfboards to software security features. He shows that product and service development is concentrated among "lead users," who are ahead on marketplace trends and whose innovations are often commercially attractive. Von Hippel argues that manufacturers should redesign their innovation processes and that they should systematically seek out innovations developed by users. He points to businesses—the custom semiconductor industry is one example—that have learned to assist user-innovators by providing them with toolkits for developing new products. User innovation has a positive impact on social welfare, and von Hippel proposes that government policies, including R&D subsidies and tax credits, should be realigned to eliminate biases against it. The goal of a democratized user-centered innovation system, says von Hippel, is well worth striving for. An electronic version of this book is available under a Creative Commons license.

Book excerpt: LaRee has spent her life educating from a young girl teaching a primary class through teaching her 7 children at home as well as teaching classes on herbs, oils, homeopathy, and more. Thisbook is her memoir. This book is my memoir- a memoir that for several years now, I have known I would write one day. But let's set the record straight right here. Part, but only part, of the impetus for writing my memoir at this time, is the publishing of our daughter's book, Educated. I want to tell the story of my life as I really lived it and not in the dramatically fictionalized way others, based on my daughter's book, are telling it for me. I want my grandchildren to know who their grandmother is and was, I want to be a force for good in their lives. Also, I feel a compelling desire to shine a light on homeschooling, herbal medicine, and the living og a conservative and Christian way of life.
