Book Synopsis Tesla: A Portrait with Masks by : Vladimir Pistalo
Download or read book Tesla: A Portrait with Masks written by Vladimir Pistalo and published by Graywolf Press. This book was released on 2015-01-06 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An electric novel of the extraordinary life of one of the twentieth century's most prodigious and colorful inventors Nikola Tesla was a man forever misunderstood. From his boyhood in what is present-day Croatia, where his father, a Serbian Orthodox priest, dismissed his talents, to his tumultuous years in New York City, where his heated rivalry with Thomas Edison yielded triumphs and failures, Tesla was both demonized and lionized. Tesla captures the whirlwind years of the dawn of the electrical age, when his flair for showmanship kept him in the public eye. For every successful invention—the alternating current electrical system and wireless communication among them—there were hundreds of others. But what of the man behind the image? Vladimir Pistalo reveals the inner life of a man haunted by the loss of his older brother, a man who struggled with flashes of madness and brilliance whose mistrust of institutional support led him to financial ruin. Tesla: A Portrait with Masks is an impassioned account of a visionary whose influence is still felt today.

Book Synopsis The Song of Hugh Glass by : John G. Neihardt
Download or read book The Song of Hugh Glass written by John G. Neihardt and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2019-12-09 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Song of Hugh Glass is an epic poem about American fur traders. John G. Neihardt writes a dedicated and detailed poem about the action on the western frontier. Excerpt: "The year was eighteen hundred twenty-three. 'Twas when the guns that blustered at the Ree Had ceased to brag, and ten score martial clowns Turned from the unwhipped Aricara towns, Earning the scornful laughter of the Sioux. A withering blast the arid South still blew, And creeks ran thin beneath the glaring sky; For it was a month ere honking geese would fly Southward before the Great White Hunter's face: And many generations of their race, As bow-flung arrows, now have fallen spent."
Book Synopsis Computational Lithography by : Xu Ma
Download or read book Computational Lithography written by Xu Ma and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-01-06 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Unified Summary of the Models and Optimization Methods Used in Computational Lithography Optical lithography is one of the most challenging areas of current integrated circuit manufacturing technology. The semiconductor industry is relying more on resolution enhancement techniques (RETs), since their implementation does not require significant changes in fabrication infrastructure. Computational Lithography is the first book to address the computational optimization of RETs in optical lithography, providing an in-depth discussion of optimal optical proximity correction (OPC), phase shifting mask (PSM), and off-axis illumination (OAI) RET tools that use model-based mathematical optimization approaches. The book starts with an introduction to optical lithography systems, electric magnetic field principles, and the fundamentals of optimization from a mathematical point of view. It goes on to describe in detail different types of optimization algorithms to implement RETs. Most of the algorithms developed are based on the application of the OPC, PSM, and OAI approaches and their combinations. Algorithms for coherent illumination as well as partially coherent illumination systems are described, and numerous simulations are offered to illustrate the effectiveness of the algorithms. In addition, mathematical derivations of all optimization frameworks are presented. The accompanying MATLAB® software files for all the RET methods described in the book make it easy for readers to run and investigate the codes in order to understand and apply the optimization algorithms, as well as to design a set of optimal lithography masks. The codes may also be used by readers for their research and development activities in their academic or industrial organizations. An accompanying MATLAB® software guide is also included. An accompanying MATLAB® software guide is included, and readers can download the software to use with the guide at ftp://ftp.wiley.com/public/sci_tech_med/computational_lithography. Tailored for both entry-level and experienced readers, Computational Lithography is meant for faculty, graduate students, and researchers, as well as scientists and engineers in industrial organizations whose research or career field is semiconductor IC fabrication, optical lithography, and RETs. Computational lithography draws from the rich theory of inverse problems, optics, optimization, and computational imaging; as such, the book is also directed to researchers and practitioners in these fields.

Book Synopsis Liquid Crystal Sensors by : Albert Schenning
Download or read book Liquid Crystal Sensors written by Albert Schenning and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquid Crystal Sensors discusses novel applications of liquid crystals that lie beyond electrically driven optical switches and displays. The main focus is on recent progress in the area of sensors based on low molar mass and polymer liquid crystals. This area of research became "hot" in recent years since the possibilities for applications of liquid crystal sensors are growing in many areas, ranging from the detection of mechanical displacements to the detection of environmental pollutants and chemical agents. This book is well-suited for students, as well as scientists from different backgrounds. For students and researchers new to the field, it gives a thorough introduction. For experienced researchers it shows the latest breakthroughs and serves as an inspiration for solving problems or sparking new ideas. Key Features: Emphasizes how liquid crystals are extremely sensitive to external stimuli and therefore can be used for the construction of stimuli-responsive devices, such as sensors Includes the contributions of editors who are deeply involved in the field and author chapters on hot topics such as the sensitivity of liquid crystals to pollutants, UV light, and strain Provides an exclusive on LC sensors where having the data in one place will be very useful to the community Gives more information on sensors and broadens the scope by having a contributed volume rather than authored Combines recent data on advances in the area of liquid crystal sensors that includes many types of liquid crystal materials
