This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author Robert M. Sutherland is an accomplished Canadian criminal and civil trial lawyer with 34 years at the bar in five provinces, having had some notable successes, changing the law nationally and provincially at various points in time. He is philosophically a moderate realist and a natural law thinker, in the tradition of the three great Western thinkers: Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas and MortImer J. Adler and a former Canadian director of the Chicago-based think-tank “Mortimer J. Adler’s Centre for the Study of the Great Ideas”. He is an evangelical Christian and a member of the United Church of Canada. This is how he would format the testimonial evidence of the various gospel writers in the court of public opinion for the purpose of assessing their individual and collective credibility and reliability and ultimately their three basic historical claims: namely, (1) Jesus of Nazareth claimed to be divine. (2) He died for that claim. (3) He rose again from the dead to establish the truth of that claim. These are purely historical matters, knowable and provable on a balance of probabilities. And to assist the reader he has provided some helpful methodologies for understanding the nature of truth, the nature of the natural moral law and the nature of historical inquiry.

Readers may choose to read only the highlighted portions of parallel passages, or read the entire account in each gospel side by side. In this work, the King James Version has been modified by changing archaic words to modern, easy-to-understand synonyms, to produce a unique modified King James Version (mKJV), that is refreshingly quite readable and easy to understand. The Parallel Chronological Gospels will revolutionize your reading, and comprehension of the gospel accounts of Jesus' life.
Book Synopsis The Trinity in the Gospel of John by : Royce G. Gruenler
Download or read book The Trinity in the Gospel of John written by Royce G. Gruenler and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2004-04-08 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No book in the Bible says more about the Trinity than the Gospel of John. Of the innumerable commentaries published on this much loved Gospel, few have focused on this central theme. I have tried, writes the author, to listen to the discourses of Jesus in John and draw forth the disclosures of God's social nature in the activity of the incarnate Son. He discovers something quite remarkable about the attitude of the persons of the Triune Community, something he calls disposability. Father, Son, and Spirit are there for the other, ...servants who place themselves at the other person's disposal in an act of total generosity. They serve not only each other but also the fallen human race, and the creatures they redeem are invited to wash one another's feet as servants to the world. Devoted Bible students will find in this thematic commentary a dimension to the Gospel of John they may have noticed only vaguely. As they follow the author through this Gospel chapter by chapter, they will acquire a far deeper understanding of the Triune God, whom they serve because he has served them.

Book Synopsis The Gospel of John by : Frederick Dale Bruner
Download or read book The Gospel of John written by Frederick Dale Bruner and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02-22 with total page 1359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of a much-loved two volume Matthew commentary (1990) that he greatly revised and expanded fourteen years later, Frederick Dale Bruner now offers The Gospel of John: A Commentary -- more rich fruit of his lifetime of study and teaching. Rather than relying primarily on recent scholarship, Bruner honors and draws from the church's major John commentators throughout history, including Augustine, Chrysostom, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Bultmann, Barrett, and many more. Alongside this "historical interpretation" is Bruner's own contemporary interpretation, which incorporates a lucid translation of the text, references to recent scholarship, and his pastoral application of the Gospel to present-day experience. Like Bruner's other work, this commentary is rich in biblical insights, broadly historical, and deeply theological. Here is what Eugene Peterson said about Bruner's earlier work on Matthew: "This is the kind of commentary I most want -- a theological wrestling with Scripture. Frederick Dale Bruner grapples with the text not only as a technical exegete (although he does that very well) but as a church theologian, caring passionately about what these words tell us about God and ourselves. His Matthew commentary is in the grand traditions of Augustine, Calvin, and Luther -- expansive and leisurely, loving the text, the people in it, and the Christians who read it." The same could well be said about the present John commentary, which promises to be another invaluable resource for pastors, teachers, and laypeople alike.

Book Synopsis The Gospel of John by : Francis Moloney
Download or read book The Gospel of John written by Francis Moloney and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2005-06-01 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognized as an innovative interpreter of the Gospel of John, for decades Francis J. Moloney has approached the sacred literature in a way that attends both to the details of the text and to the several contexts that gave life to the original story. This “text and context” approach continues to enrich the reading and interpretation of the Gospel in today’s world. Gospel of John: Text and Context gathers Francis Moloney’s key studies on John’s Gospel written over the course of his career. The three sections of the work comprise studies of Johannine history, theology, and research; exegetical studies ranging across all parts of the Johannine narrative; and an exploration of how the Fourth Gospel came to be understood as sacred Scripture.
