Book Synopsis The Google Story (2018 Updated Edition) by : David A. Vise
Download or read book The Google Story (2018 Updated Edition) written by David A. Vise and published by Bantam. This book was released on 2005-11-15 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive, bestselling account of the company that changed the way we work and live, updated for the twentieth anniversary of Google’s founding with analysis of its most recent bold moves to redefine the world—and its even more ambitious plans for the future. Moscow-born Sergey Brin and Midwest-born Larry Page dropped out of graduate school at Stanford University to, as they said, “change the world” through a powerful search engine that would organize every bit of information on the Web for free. The Google Story takes you deep inside the company’s wild ride from an idea that struggled for funding in 1998 to a firm that today rakes in billions in profits. Based on scrupulous research and extraordinary access to Google, this fast-moving narrative reveals how an unorthodox management style and a culture of innovation enabled a search-engine giant to shake up Madison Avenue, clash with governments that accuse it of being a monopoly, deploy self-driving cars to forever change how we travel, and launch high-flying Internet balloons. Unafraid of controversy, Google is surging ahead with artificial intelligence that could cure diseases but also displace millions of people from their jobs, testing the founders’ guiding mantra: DON’T BE EVIL. Praise for The Google Story “[The authors] do a fine job of recounting Google’s rapid rise and explaining its search business.”—The New York Times “An intriguing insider view of the Google culture.”—Harvard Business Review “An interesting read on a powerhouse company . . . If you haven’t read anything about one of today’s most influential companies, you should. If you don’t read The Google Story, you’re missing a few extra treats.”—USA Today “Fascinating . . . meticulous . . . never bogs down.”—Houston Chronicle
Book Synopsis Skirting the Gorge - A Novel by : Gerald R Stanek

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The university town of Ithaca New York, blessed with numerous waterfalls and beautiful, dangerous gorges, provides a cosmopolitan yet bucolic backdrop for this tale of transformation. Here Stephen and Michelle Wolcott live an ostensibly idyllic, albeit wintry life, comfortably oblivious of the constant interplay between the subtle and material worlds. Gathered for a Christmas party at their well-ordered home, old friends and a new neighbor are treated to the appearance of a fox in the snowy yard. For some it is magical, for others innocuous, for all it proves significant. Following the party, Michelle's old trouble with migraines returns, bringing frightening sensations, confusion, and the recurring vision of a body in the water. With the aid of a shaman, she approaches a new understanding of the nature of existence, learns to open her heart, and finds that spiritual forces are conspiring to take her life in a new direction.

Book Synopsis Beginning Kubernetes on the Google Cloud Platform by : Ernesto Garbarino
Download or read book Beginning Kubernetes on the Google Cloud Platform written by Ernesto Garbarino and published by Apress. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Use this beginner’s guide to understand and work with Kubernetes on the Google Cloud Platform and go from single monolithic Pods (the smallest unit deployed and managed by Kubernetes) all the way up to distributed, fault-tolerant stateful backing stores. You need only a familiarity with Linux, Bash, and Python to successfully use this book. Proficiency in Docker or cloud technology is not required. You will follow a learn-by-doing approach, running small experiments and observing the effects. Google open sourced Kubernetes in 2015 and now it is the industry standard in container orchestration. It has been adopted by all leading vendors of cloud, on-prem, and hybrid infrastructure services: Microsoft (Azure AKS), Amazon (AWS EKS), IBM (IBM Cloud Kubernetes Services), Alibaba Cloud (ACK), RedHat (OpenShift), and Pivotal (PKS). Even though Kubernetes is offered by all of the market-leading cloud providers, the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) offers an integrated shell (Google Cloud Shell) and a $300 credit to get started, which makes it the ideal platform to not only learn Kubernetes but also to implement final production workloads. What You Will Learn Set up a Kubernetes cluster in GCPDeploy simple Docker images using monolithic PodsArrange highly available and highly scalable applications using DeploymentsAchieve zero-downtime deployments using the Service controllerExternalize configuration using ConfigMaps and SecretsSet up batch processes and recurrent tasks using Jobs and CronJobsInstall horizontal (sidecar pattern) services using DaemonSetsImplement distributed, stateful backing stores using StatefulSets Who This Book Is For Beginners with basic Linux admin and scripting skills (Bash and Python). Book Synopsis Using the Google Places API and Google Trends Data to Develop High Frequency Indicators of Economic Activity by : Mr. Paul A Austin
Download or read book Using the Google Places API and Google Trends Data to Develop High Frequency Indicators of Economic Activity written by Mr. Paul A Austin and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2021-12-17 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the pandemic heigthened policymakers’ demand for more frequent and timely indicators to assess economic activities, traditional data collection and compilation methods to produce official indicators are falling short—triggering stronger interest in real time data to provide early signals of turning points in economic activity. In this paper, we examine how data extracted from the Google Places API and Google Trends can be used to develop high frequency indicators aligned to the statistical concepts, classifications, and definitions used in producing official measures. The approach is illustrated by use of Google data-derived indicators that predict well the GDP trajectories of selected countries during the early stage of COVID-19. To this end, we developed a methodological toolkit for national compilers interested in using Google data to enhance the timeliness and frequency of economic indicators.
