Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bare-fisted brawler from Blackpool, England tells his story of fortune and fumbling on the road to the WWE’s higher ranks. Since joining the WWE in 2000 as a goodwill ambassador from Great Britain, William Regal has established himself as an up-and-coming Superstar. He took the wrestling world by storm defeating many of the WWE’s best wrestlers to win both the European and Intercontinental championships—although he’s probably best known for getting back in WWE owner’s Vince McMahon’s good graces by kissing his naked backside on national television. While fans may still chuckle at Regal’s humiliation, his in-ring success is no laughing matter. In this no-holds-barred look at his life, Regal for the first time talks about how he has dragged himself out of a life of poverty and adversity on the street of Blackpool, England and battled his own inner-demons to reach the top of the WWE’s roster. He also discusses how he has overcome his recent life-threatening medical condition to return to triumphantly to the WWE.

Staying put for the first time in years, Beau developed a new kind of lifestyle as the Backyard Adventurer. Whether it was walking 90km to work with no provisions, building a canoe paddle out of scavenged scrap or running a disused railway line through properties, blackberry thickets and past inquiring police officers, Beau has been finding ways to satisfy his adventurous spirit close to home. This book is about conscious experimentation with adventure, making meaning and inspiration out of tins of beans, bits of rubbish and elbow grease. Beau’s Backyard exploits are funny, authentic, insightful and being copied all over the world by everyday people. YouTuber, new dad, and self-described oddball who needs to shower more, Beau is what happens when you cross Bear Grylls with Bush Tucker Man. With a PhD in Outdoor Education, a string of successful short films under his belt and a boundless passion for discovery, Beau is the real deal.

The investigation into the brutal murder of a Blackpool policeman during holiday season was never going to be easy, but the case is not Chief Inspector Woodend’s only problem. His new boss, DS Ainsworth, is just waiting for an opportunity to stick a knife in his back; and his invaluable assistant, Bob Rutter, has been replaced by a sergeant more intent on advancing her own career than helping him. Then, it appears, the Blackpool police seem to think it might be better if the killer were never found . . . “Should give the reader a shiver or two.” —Publishers Weekly “Unique settings and psychological details supplement Woodend’s usual antics: a surefire series addition.” —Library Journal

With the energy and irreverent humour of a fanzine, the acuity of investigative journalism, and the eye of an art book, this new, expanded edition of Golden Miles explores the archetypal product of Australian suburbia - the muscle car. Clinton Walker is the author of seven books and several hit documentaries including the 2001 series on the history of Australian rock, Long Way to the Top. 'A rambling journey that's provocative and lavishly illustrated ... as much for pop culture lovers as rev heads.' - Sydney Morning Herald.

Book excerpt: Miles Wallingford Jr. is son of wealthy New York landowners, who chooses to go to sea after the death of his parents. In "Afloat and Ashore" focus is on the challenging relationship between Miles and Neb, a runaway slave who stows away aboard the ship and only is left unpunished when Miles claims him as his own slave. The two become close allies aboard the ship, but the racial and power differences between Miles, who becomes a petty officer aboard the vessel, and Neb, who is confined to the role of regular seaman. A sequel "Miles Wallingford" continues to follow the maritime adventures of Miles Wallingford Jr, and his long-time friends Neb and Lucy Harding, and resolves many thematic and plot elements left unsettled in Afloat and Ashore. Novels are partially autobiographical, inspired by J. Fenimore Cooper's own experiences as a sailor. James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) was a prolific and popular American writer of the early 19th century. His historical romances of frontier and Indian life in the early American days created a unique form of American literature. Before embarking on his career as a writer, Cooper served in the U.S. Navy as a Midshipman, which greatly influenced many of his novels and other writings. The novel that launched his career was The Spy, a tale about counterespionage set during the Revolutionary War. He also wrote numerous sea stories, and his best-known works are five historical novels of the frontier period known as the Leatherstocking Tales. Among his most famous works is the Romantic novel The Last of the Mohicans, often regarded as his masterpiece.

Book excerpt: The combined events of the end of the American Civil War in 1865, the first transcontinental railroad opening in 1869, and the financial crash of 1873, found large numbers—including thousands of former soldiers well used to an outdoor life and tramping—thrown into a transient life and forced to roam the continent, surviving on whatever resources came to hand. For most, the life of the hobo was born out of necessity. For a few it became a lifestyle choice. Some of the latter group committed their adventures to print, both autobiographical and fictional, and together with their British and Irish counterparts, whose wanderlust was fueled by an altogether different genesis, they account for the fifteen tramp writers whose stories and ideas are the subject of this book. The lives of some, like Jack Everson, Jack Black and Tom Kromer, are told in a single volume, others, like Morley Roberts and Stephen Graham, have eighty and fifty published works to their credit respectively. Some remain completely unknown and their books are long since out of print, others, like Trader Horn and Jim Tully, were Hollywood celebrities. Others yet, such as Black, Tulley, Horn, Bart Kennedy, Leon Ray Livingstone, and Jack London, had their stories immortalized in film.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The enthralling inside story of Scottish football's golden age The 2018 World Cup Finals in Russia mark 20 years since Scotland last qualified for a major football tournament. It's a poignant, painful reminder of the state of our footballing nation. Qualification has never been easy, of course, but the golden age of many memorable and nail-biting nights is well worth remembering – in the hope that one day they may come again. Archie Macpherson commentated on all 18 of Scotland's World Cup matches during that purple patch from 1974 to 1998, and now in his Adventures in the Golden Age, he tells the story of the matches and the men that raised and dashed hopes in almost equal measure at the greatest tournament on earth. Between the 1974 clash with Zaire and the defeat against Morocco in 1998, there were adventures against Iran, Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil and many others. And, throughout it all, Archie was the voice of Scottish football. He knew the players, the managers and the fans. He witnessed clashes of personality, managerial rages, nocturnal antics, BBC wranglings, the shadiness of FIFA – and that last painful evening in France. Archie Macpherson's World Cup adventures are brilliantly entertaining, capturing a golden age in Scottish football that may never be seen again.

The reader is treated to an Italian cruise, beautiful ports-of-call and art works by the Masters. Romance is everywhere, but sly and dangerous characters abound.
