Book excerpt: THE GOD BOX is a provocative, racy sequel to CIRCLE IN A SPIRAL. This time, famed archeologist Art Wilder and his team of experts travel to Egypt to uncover the secrets of the Sphinx and to find the long-lost tomb of the legendary Imhotep. While their search is purely scientific, there are others who also seek the famous lost tomb and the secrets that lie buried with Imhotep. And they will do anything to get them! The God Box is the latest chapter in the Wilder sagas. It's a wild blend of history, science fiction and steamy sex and wry humor that also challenges the "accepted" theories of the origins of human civilization. THE GOD BOX is a must-read for fans of Art Wiederhold and proves once again that he is the master storyteller of our time.
Download or read book The God Box written by Mary Lou Quinlan and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2012-04-17 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Mary Lou Quinlan’s beloved mother, Mary Finlayson, dies, her family is bereft—until Mary Lou searches for her mother’s “God Box,” her private cache of notes to God on behalf of family, friends and strangers. To Mary Lou’s amazement, she finds not one but ten boxes stuffed with hundreds of tiny petitions that spanned the last twenty years of her mother’s life. Note by note, Mary Lou unearths a treasure of her mother’s wishes and worries and insight. Mary asked God for everything from the right flooring for her daughter’s home to a cure for her own blood cancer. Her requests, penned on scraps of paper, were presented without expectation—the ultimate expression of letting go. Follow Mary Lou’s emotional journey as she uncovers her mother’s innermost thoughts—nostalgic, surprising and even a bit shocking. As she recalls life with the woman who was her best friend, Mary Lou also discovers her own more empathetic, engaged self—the woman her mother had believed in all along. Poignantly written and beautifully designed, The God Box is a gift for every mother, every daughter, every person who, regardless of beliefs, trusts in the permanence of love and the power of family.
Book Synopsis Blowing the Lid Off the God-Box by : Anne Robertson
Download or read book Blowing the Lid Off the God-Box written by Anne Robertson and published by Church Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What's in your God-box? Each of us, says author Anne Robertson, builds our own way of understanding God-our God-box-- and fills it up with bits of scripture, wisdom, and our experiences of God at work in our lives. It's a perfectly good way to puzzle out what God means to us. Encountering God through our human limitations, we learn something about the meaning of Incarnation. But to say that our experience of God is the only valid one is to put a lid on the box and create an idol. This book is about examining our God-boxes and bursting them wide open. Blowing the Lid Off the God-Box starts with the ministry of Jesus - who blew the lid off everyone's God-box by constantly challenging his followers with the unexpected. Subsequent chapters examine the God-boxes we create with scripture, worship, and political and social agendas.

Book excerpt: It is time to evaluate your current value system. How do you make decisions? Do you base them on cultural references you find on TV or in movies? Do you ask your friendsand even strangerswhat they recommend? Do some wrong ideas become so implanted in your mind that you need a bulldozer to clear them out? Can the relationship between a pet dog and its owner tell us anything about our relationship to God? Author Criss Cross The God Exchange uses everyday examples to look at how God created human beings and how it impacts our decisions. We make decisions every day. Some are big, like buying a car or major appliance, changing jobs, or getting married. Others are smaller, such as those involving what were going to wear and eat. Every decision is made based on what we like and what we perceive as having good value. Cross shows how the things we valueand the people whose opinions we valueinfluence our decisions, and not always in good ways. Many of us leave God completely out of the decision-making process. When that happens, there are eternal consequences. As youll read in The God Exchange, some wrong decisions can be really funny and amusing; others are not. They are all part of life and how God designed us as humans. Once youre aware of what influences your decisions, you can be on your way to making better ones.

Download or read book The God Chasers written by Tommy Tenney and published by Destiny Image Publishers. This book was released on 1999-02-28 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A God chaser is a person whose passion for God's presence presses him to chase the impossible in hopes that the uncatchable might catch him. A child chases a loving parent until, suddenly, the strong arms of the father enfold the chaser. The pursuer becomes the captive; the pursued the captor. Paul put it this way: "I chase after that I may catch that which apprehended me" (Phil. 3:12). Job was a God chaser. He said, "Oh that I knew where I might find Him!" David was one; he said, "My soul followeth hard after Thee." Paul was one too: "That I may know Him..." The passionate paths of God chasers can be traced across the pages of history from Moses the stutterer, David the singer, and Paul the itinerant preacher, to contemporaries like A.W. Tozer, Leonard Ravenhill, and countless others who share one common bond: an insatiable hunger to know their Lord. These are people whose relentless, passionate pursuit of Christ often made them appear foolish in the eyes of others. Yet, having tasted His goodness and glimpsed the invisible, they could be satisfied with nothing less. Add your name to the list...become a God chaser. Who know? You might be one whom He catches.

Download or read book Leaving the Abbey written by Kathryn H-F and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-03-27 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like life, the [Labyrinth] walk seems pretty easy at the start when were kids. You decide what you want to be when you grow up and head that way, toward center. Then real life begins to happen. Some of us carry the seeds of a physical, mental, and spiritual malaise, one of the isms like alcoholism, for example. These explode, reach the surface, and sprout. Our straight path zings away to the side, we lose sight of center, and we circle around the edge of what others seem to easily obtain. At some point on the narrow path, I suddenly recall the day of my first marriages divorce, and I weep but keep walking. Around another tight curve on the path, I recall my first AA meeting, while I was still in the detox in South Amboy. Teasingly close to center again, the path zags in the opposite direction. In obeying the order for this second walk, I come to understand. Now I feel again the purposeful turning away from recovery that I chose time and again, running from salvation back to the slavery of bottle or line. My choices, mine alone.

Book Synopsis The Healing Power of Writing by : Susan Borkin
Download or read book The Healing Power of Writing written by Susan Borkin and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2014-02-11 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The healing benefits of writing can support traditional therapy. While much has been written about the physical and emotional benefits of writing, little has been written specifically for mental health professionals detailing how to use therapeutic journaling with their clients. Therapeutic journaling—any type of writing or related expressive process used for the purpose of psychological healing or growth—can be an extremely helpful adjunctive therapy. When integrated into an overall treatment plan, regardless of the therapist’s clinical orientation, journaling can become a dynamic tool for personal growth and healing. The first part of this book, “Journaling and the Clinical Process,” gives an overview of therapeutic journaling and the many potential benefits from its use. It provides concrete and specific steps for introducing journaling to psychotherapy clients and answers questions about structure and logistics. For example, engaging your client in writing a biographical statement will not only help focus the treatment plan but also provide a vast amount of background information. This section also introduces two very beneficial mnemonic devices to help clients focus and organize journaling between sessions. The next section, “Presenting Problems and Journaling Solutions,” addresses nine different diagnoses and explains specifically how therapeutic journaling can be integrated into the treatment plan of these diagnoses. Key diagnoses are covered: adjustment disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, couple and relationship issues, addictions, disordered eating, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The final part of the book, “Journaling Roadblocks and Building Blocks,” addresses potentially difficult, sticky, or challenging situations regarding journaling, such as possible resistance to therapeutic journaling, privacy issues, safe boundaries, and protection of client material. Importantly, it also reviews those circumstances in which it is best not to use therapeutic journaling or when journaling is contraindicated. The author offers a program designed for therapists for creating their own therapeutic journaling practice. The Healing Power of Writing is filled with case studies, step-by-step exercises, and clear and practical guidelines for mental health professionals who want to incorporate journaling into their clients’ treatment.
Book Synopsis Your Emotional Boat by : Linda Branham M.Ed.
Download or read book Your Emotional Boat written by Linda Branham M.Ed. and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-07-07 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YOUR EMOTIONAL BOAT Lets pretend for a moment that you are a boat. So... what kind of boat would you be? Which boat would personify all of your characteristics? Your Emotional Boat utilizes the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator and pairs each Myers-Briggs Personality type with a particular “boat” style. All of us travel through life, but some are more prepared than others. This book prepares the reader to approach life as if they are beginning a journey. The author uses the analogy of comparing “people” to “boats” to further enhance the development of the idea of preparing for a journey. How a person prepares for the journey through life depends upon the type of “boat” that they are. Your Emotional Boat will lead the readers through several techniques to help them learn more about themselves and what they want to create in their lives. Once the reader understands their own personal style, and has determined what they want to create in their lives, they will be guided in the process of making a “map” for their own personal journey. The latter half of the book encourages readers to look more closely at their own spiritual beliefs and to discover how these beliefs affect their lives.

Book Synopsis Mind Over Medicine - REVISED EDITION by : Lissa Rankin, M.D.
Download or read book Mind Over Medicine - REVISED EDITION written by Lissa Rankin, M.D. and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2020-06-09 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestseller, revised and updated This beloved guide, revised and updated with up-to-the minute scientific and spiritual insight, teaches readers how to listen to their bodies and assess all areas of their lives--relational, psychological, creative, environmental, professional--to understand what they need for health. When Mind Over Medicine was first published, it broke new ground in the fertile region where science and spirituality intersect. Through the process of restoring her own health, Dr. Lissa Rankin discovered that the conventional health care she had been taught to practice was missing something crucial: a recognition of the body's innate ability to self-repair and an appreciation for how we can control these self-healing mechanisms with the power of our own consciousness. To better understand this phenomenon, she explored peer-reviewed medical literature and found evidence that the medical establishment had been proving that the body can heal itself for over 50 years. She shared her findings and laid out a practical plan for readers to heal themselves in this profoundly wise book--a New York Times bestseller and now a classic guide for people who are on a healing journey from illness, injury, or trauma. In the years since then, Dr. Rankin has deepened her exploration of the world's healing tradition and her understanding of the healing power we hold within ourselves--if only we can tap into it. This revised edition of Mind Over Medicine reflects her latest research, evolving wisdom, and work with clients and students in her healing community, as well as with doctors and other healers in her Whole Health Medicine Institute. Inside, readers will discover: • A thorough update of Dr. Rankin's signature Six Steps to Healing Yourself • New insight into how unresolved trauma can stand in the way of healing from chronic and life-threatening illnesses-and powerful tools we can use to heal it • How to tune in to our Inner Pilot Light for intuitive guidance in our healing And much more "The healing that is possible may be right here," Dr. Rankin writes, "closer than close, underneath all your efforting and striving, available if you are ready to humble yourself before this possibility and receive what awaits you."
