Book Synopsis The GHOST of HOMER LUSTA by : BOB TAYLOR
Download or read book The GHOST of HOMER LUSTA written by BOB TAYLOR and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Confederate soldier Homer Lusta returns to Earth 150 years after the Civil War, the War Between the States, or as Homer would say, the War of Northern Aggression. He remains invisible as he searches for an author to write the "real story" of that war. Finally Homer selects "Old Bob," materializes himself, and convinces Bob to write the story according to his memory. Homer's adaptation is reasonably accurate and loaded with "Homer humor" as he recalls his endeavors to save the South and protect underage brother, Lack, who illicitly has sneaked, early on, into the battlefield. The boys are deceived by a corrupt gang of Rebel deserters into thinking the War is over. Unknowingly, they join these renegades, but soon realize they are traitors involved in iniquitous activity. The boys decide to right this wrong. They search out and inform appropriate Rebel officers. Now having become heroes, the boys return home to accolades few in that war-torn land could ever imagine.

Book excerpt: A romance hatched in 1968 in war-torn Vietnam comes to a violent end when enemy guerrillas attack the U. S. Naval Hospital at Da Nang, taking the life of Navy nurse Angela Robbins and stealing her opal engagement ring, given to her by Marine pilot Warner Nichols in contemplation of marriage. Time and the War continue and Warner's private focus remains on the missing ring and the identity of the perpetrator. His life is almost destroyed except for Vic Tobias, his wingman who monitors his every move in the air, and for British nurse Jennifer Hartness, who cares for him as she positions herself in Angela's shoes. It is only after Warner returns to the States and is later re-assigned to Vietnam that a clue surfaces, renewing his vow to unravel the mystery.

Download or read book Sunflower written by Gyula Krudy and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2010-09-15 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gyula Krúdy is a marvelous writer who haunted the taverns of Budapest and lived on its streets while turning out a series of mesmerizing, revelatory novels that are among the masterpieces of modern literature. Krúdy conjures up a world that is entirely his own—dreamy, macabre, comic, and erotic—where urbane sophistication can erupt without warning into passion and madness. In Sunflower young Eveline leaves the city and returns to her country estate to escape the memory of her desperate love for the unscrupulous charmer Kálmán. There she encounters the melancholy Álmos-Dreamer, who is languishing for love of her, and is visited by the bizarre and beautiful Miss Maszkerádi, a woman who is a force of nature. The plot twists and turns; elemental myth mingles with sheer farce: Krúdy brilliantly illuminates the shifting contours and acid colors of the landscape of desire. John Bátki’s outstanding translation of Sunflower is the perfect introduction to the world of Gyula Krúdy, a genius as singular as Robert Walser, Bruno Schulz, or Joseph Roth.
Book Synopsis A Dictionary of Hinduism by : Margaret and James Stutley
Download or read book A Dictionary of Hinduism written by Margaret and James Stutley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-09 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Hinduism’ is a term often used to summarize the aspirations of the majority of the Indian people. But any simple definition of it is difficult, if not impossible. This is partly owing to the nuances of the Sanskrit language, in which many texts are written, and partly to the too literal interpretation of Hindu imagery and mythology that often veils its real significance. This book, first published in 1977, is an essential reference source that goes some way to clarifying the difficulties of understanding Hinduism.
