Okulitch and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third part of the debate about time classification and correlation of Precambrian rocks and events in Canada continues with discussion of the fundamental philosophies of geological time scales, assessment of previous proposals and the description of a chart with three scales. This chart, intended for use in the Geological Atlas of Canada, includes a chronometric scale for international correlation and reference to isotopic ages, the chronometric/chronolithic hybrid scale proposed for the Decade of North American Geology publications, and a modified (primarily chronolithic) version of Stockwell's chrono-orogenic scale which appeared in the first part of this debate.

Book Synopsis The Biomarker Guide by : K. E. Peters
Download or read book The Biomarker Guide written by K. E. Peters and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of The Biomarker Guide is a fully updated and expanded version of this essential reference. Now in two volumes, it provides a comprehensive account of the role that biomarker technology plays both in petroleum exploration and in understanding Earth history and processes. Biomarkers and Isotopes in the Environment and Human History details the origins of biomarkers and introduces basic chemical principles relevant to their study. It discusses analytical techniques, and applications of biomarkers to environmental and archaeological problems. The Biomarker Guide is an invaluable resource for geologists, petroleum geochemists, biogeochemists, environmental scientists and archaeologists.

Book Synopsis Sea-Level Change by : National Research Council
Download or read book Sea-Level Change written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1990-02-01 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sea-level rise may be one of the consequences of global warming. To understand changes in sea level caused by the "greenhouse effect," we must understand the factors that have caused the sea level to fluctuate significantly throughout history. This new volume explores current views among scientists on the causes and mechanisms of sea-level change. The authors examine measurement programs and make recommendations aimed at improving our understanding of the factors that affect sea level. It will be welcomed by scientists, engineers, and policymakers concerned about "greenhouse" issues and sea-level change, the environmental community, researchers, and students.
Book Synopsis Nuclear Methods in Mineralogy and Geology by : Attila Vértes
Download or read book Nuclear Methods in Mineralogy and Geology written by Attila Vértes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book appears a century after the discovery of radioactivity. It was in 1896, when Henri Becquerel reported his first results about the penetrating radiation, which could darken the packed photographic plates. The initial fascination of radioactivity, e.g., the discovery of new radioactive elements, the first real description of the structure of atoms and their nuclei, the applications of radiotracers, the high sensitivity of activation analysis, etc., was followed by the use of atomic bomb in 1945. The mushroom cloud became a symbol of destructive nuclear power. And even nuclear energy production (which provides about 20% of the world's electricity) is overshadowed by radioactive waste. However, the latest results suggest that the Accelerator-Driven Transmutation Technology (ADTT) will solve this problem, since this technique can decrease the lifetime of the fission products comparatively to the human lifespan. Practical control of fusion may also be possible in the first decades of the next millennium.
