The migration of John Martin, John B. Walls, and Etheldred Futrell from North Carolina to Knox County, Tennessee in the early 1800s, and then to Roane and Morgan Counties in the 1850s is documented. Finally, the first four generations of the Futrell family in East Tennessee are presented in detail supported by reference to official records and other reliable sources. A link to electronic records in the family tree is also provided.

They had two children. He married (3) Anna Matilda Anderson, daughter of Peter Frederick Anderson and Anna Christina Johanson, 30 September 1923 in Oakland, California. There were no children born in this union. James died 7 December 1951 in Oakland, California. Ancestors and descendants lived mainly in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and England.
