Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Freshwater and Terrestrial Decapod Crustaceans of the West Indies With Special Reference to Dominica The original objective of this study was to describe the abundant but little-known freshwater and terrestrial decapod crustaceans of Dominica. We gradually came to the realization, however, that even the intensive collecting by those who participated in the Bredin archbold-smithsonian Biological Survey of Dominica hardly could be expected to reveal every species that might occur on that island at any time. In order to lend completeness to the Dominican coverage and to make the study useful to biologists interested in the faunas of other islands, we decided to include the 92 species known from all of the West Indies. We have attempted, therefore, to offer a provisional handbook of the decapods that may occur naturally in reduced salini ties or above high-tide line on any of the islands from Bermuda to Trinidad and throughout the Caribbean Sea. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Decapod Crustaceans of the Northwest Coast of North America Our knowledge of the Decapod fauna of the Northwest is, for the most part, of recent growth. More than two fifths of the species enumerated below have been described within the last twelve years, while during that time our acquaintance with the species known to Brandt, Stimpson, Lockington, and other pio meers in this field has been greatly extended. In 1900 Dr. S. J. Holmes published a very useful 'synopsis of California stalk-eyed Crustacea, ' 1 with descriptions of genera and species, and it has been thought unnecessary to repeat cita tions for the species which he gives. An effort has been made to figure all the little-known species. In addition to the general collection of Decapods made by Dr. William E. Ritter of the Harriman Expedition, those obtained by Dr. \v. R. Coe and Professor Trevor Kincaid have been placed at my service. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Decapod Crustaceans From the Panama Region As in all large collections of fossil crustaceans there are a number of fragments whose position is problematic.
