Book excerpt: From the New York Times–bestselling author of City of Night: a “powerful work that may very well be Rechy’s best” (Kirkus Reviews). Compelling and ferociously relevant, The Fourth Angel is the story of four teenagers playing deadly games with drugs, sex, and one another. Behind a facade of tough cynicism, on a raging search for kicks, they explore the hot, dusty city, bent on trouble. There are three “angels”—Shell, Cob, and Manny—and their recruit Jerry, who becomes the fourth. Hovering in that uncertain limbo between childhood and adulthood, the four angels maintain a precarious balance among themselves and with the outside world. Each one is today’s street kid: still tinged with innocence and capable of beauty, but at the same time, full of rage and violence, attempting to conceal an ugly past. Praise for John Rechy “Rechy shows great comic and tragic talent. He is truly a gifted novelist.” —Christopher Isherwood, author and playwright “His tone rings absolutely true, is absolutely his own, and he has the kind of discipline which allows him a rare and beautiful recklessness. He tells the truth, and tells it with such passion that we are forced to share in the life he conveys. This is a most humbling and liberating achievement.” —James Baldwin, novelist, playwright, and activist “Fresh, beautiful, totally courageous and totally cool, passionate . . . His uncompromising honesty as a gay writer has provoked as much fear as admiration . . . John Rechy doesn’t fit into categories. He transcends them. His individual vision is unique, perfect, loving and strong.” —Carolyn See, author of Dreaming: Hard Luck and Good Times in America
Book Synopsis The Fourth Angel by : Suzanne Chazin
Download or read book The Fourth Angel written by Suzanne Chazin and published by Diversion Publishing Corp.. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Suzanne Chazin will do for firefighting what Patricia Cornwell did for forensic science . . . A white-hot debut from a tremendous new talent” (Lee Child, #1 New York Times–bestselling author). When an inferno in Manhattan claims fifty lives, Georgia Skeehan, a rookie marshal with the New York City Fire Department, is thrust into command of the investigation. Georgia suspects the fire may have been started by something New York has never seen before: HTA, a kitchen-sink concoction with the thermal power of rocket fuel. HTA fires—though rare over the last decade—are so ferocious that they can melt a building’s steel and concrete framework in minutes. Georgia soon unearths another startling possibility: The blaze may be connected to three other unsolved New York fires—and to several eerie, scripture-laden letters from a madman who calls himself the “Fourth Angel.” As she races to unravel the clues before more lives are lost, she is troubled by the erratic behavior of her partner and by the betrayal of another marshal—a man she trusted with her heart and her life. As Georgia battles for respect in the nearly all-male bastion of the FDNY, the Fourth Angel tightens his grip on his real quarry—and plots an even more catastrophic and fiery finale. “Chazin dazzles with her knowledge of pyrotechnics and comes up with plot twists aplenty.” —People “A red-hot debut.” —USA Today

Book Synopsis As He Is by : 4th Angel Publishing Staff
Download or read book As He Is written by 4th Angel Publishing Staff and published by Teach Services, Incorporated. This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Highly absorbing, fascinating, and even challenging, with prayer this book will change your life. Through a careful study of Scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy, As He Is examines subjects such as the flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, the plagues of Egypt, Israel's use of the sword, the final fires of destruction, and much more, thus reconciling the issue of the supposed contradictions found in the character of God as Satan proposes. The rebellion of sin will not be ended until the accusations regarding God's character and government are brought to a close through God's people here in earth's theater. Many people simultaneously hold two separate pictures of God. They have a "thunder and lightning" view of the Old Testament God of justice, whereas in the New Testament, God is seen as the bearer of mercy, personified in the gentle Lamb, Jesus. But Jesus came to show us the Father; therefore, we are called to cease all double-mindedness about who God is-He must be the same yesterday, today, and forever. God is one in character, and He looks just like Jesus! Justice is not sacrificed in Christ, but it is not served according to the thoughts and ways of humanity. At last it will be seen by all that His justice is mercy. "Nothing in the world is more important or more necessary than to get the character of God right. We can fill libraries up with religious books, all being most interesting, but if they are not telling the truth about God, it is all vain and a waste of time and space. As He Is should be read carefully by everybody." Herbert Edgar Douglass, ThD, Author of God at Risk "God has not arbitrarily set a time for His second coming, but rather He is waiting for the final demonstration of the complete victory over sin in His people, through His Spirit. The Body of Christ must be pure and clean, as the Head of the Body is pure and clean. If we are to share His throne then we must be like Him. This can only happen when we have a clear understanding of His character. This is what makes the subject of this book vitally important to comprehend. As He Is strives to answer through the inspired Word, in a logical and clear manner, many of the questions that man has asked over the years about the acts and character of God." Edward J. Rice, Head Elder, Lacombe Community Seventh-day Adventist Church "As He Is presents God as One quite different from traditional notions while staying close to the inspired text. It does a superb job of bringing passages together that unveil a better picture of God than what may have been noticed before. Much of traditional picturing of God the Father is out of harmony with the clearly recorded character of Jesus in the Gospel account. It is fundamental to Christian faith that the Godhead be understood as being love, and love alone!... I would invite all believers in God to please consider the clues in the written word that lift Him up above some ancient ideas that do not harmonize with the light we have in Jesus Christ." D. Douglas Devnich, Pastor, Healthcare Chaplain, Teacher, Administrator of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

Book Synopsis Angelomorphic Christology by : Gieschen
Download or read book Angelomorphic Christology written by Gieschen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study demonstrates that angel and angel-related traditions, especially those growing from the so-called "Angel of the Lord" in the Hebrew Bible, had a significant impact on the origins and early development of Christology to the point that an Angelomorphic Christology is discernable in several first century texts. Significant effort is given to tracing the antecedents of this Christology in the angels and divine hypostases of the Hebrew Bible and Second Temple Jewish literature. The primary content of this volume is the presentation of pre-150 CE textual evidence of Angelomorphic Christology. This religio-historical study does not spawn a new Christology among the many scholarly "Christologies" already extant. Instead, it shows the interrelationship of various Christological trajectories and their adaptation from Jewish angelomorphic traditions.
