Download or read book The Foreman (RLE: Organizations) written by David Dunkerley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-02 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The foreman is usually regarded as a filter in a chain of command in industrial organizations. In this book, however, the author suggests that this view is not adequate, and he proposes instead a model of analysis which employs a systems perspective. The role of the foreman is seen in terms of the interaction of three sub-systems representing the organization, the group and the individual. The book is based on the work of researchers from many disciplines and employs a sociological framework to account for the peculiar strains, conflict and ambiguities associated with the foreman’s role.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of a 1950s study dealing with various phases of the impact of mass production on human behaviour, this volume, originally published in 1956 and now a classic of its time examines the technological environment and the foreman within management, from the foreman's point of view. The book presents case-history material, but behind this presentation and controlling it are broad concepts, one of the most important of which is that of a technological work environment. The book relates its study of a segment in American industry to the borader challenges of human relations to work in the modern world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employment prospects for many were bleak at the height of the Great Depression. For unmarried recent high school graduates, the prospect of getting a job was mostly non-existent. President Rosevelt’s New Deal plan included the Civilian Conservation Corps, a program specifically targeted to provide employment for those whose job prospects were non-existent. This seventeen to twenty-five-year-old age group would seize upon this opportunity for full-time employment, enroll for a six-month hitch and venture into the unknown. New enrollees processed into the program at regional induction centers after receiving a medical exam, issued clothing and gear, given a general idea of the work projects they would engage. They were then transported to a work camp, their new home for the next six months. The work to be performed was focused on regeneration of America’s severely depleted forests and lands. For many decades harvesting of timber, depletion of natural resources, and taking from the lands had been performed with little or no regard for conservation. The work projects included tree planting, eradication of destructive vegetation, construction of roads and bridges, fire management, soil management, and the development of parks and recreational areas. This book tells the story about CCC Company 1333, Camp S-63, Poe Valley situated in the rugged mountains of central Pennsylvania. From the first day, the camp was activated through the last day of operation, the book is filled with accounts of camp development, work projects, construction of the dam creating Poe Valley lake, and numerous stories told by veterans, camp administrators, and military commanders. Included are hundreds of names of rostered enrollees. Anyone interested in learning what life was like in a CCC camp during and after work hours, this book will provide insight into camp operations and activities. For those researching family history, the roster of names just may include the one you have been looking for. Watch this video from the Poe Valley CCC camp: https://youtu.be/ZOGUrbchYKE

Book Synopsis The Foreman/Supervisor’s Handbook by : Carl Heyel
Download or read book The Foreman/Supervisor’s Handbook written by Carl Heyel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Foreman/Supervisor's Handbook is offered as a com prehensive and authoritative text which presents the kind of prac tical information the foreman or supervisor needs in order to be effective on the job. It completely revises and updates The Foreman's Handbook, a work which, through four previous edi tions, has become the standard text in its field. The term "foreman/supervisor" in the title of the new edition was decided upon by the editors despite a reluctance to tamper with a well established name, in recognition of a change in usage which has come about over the years. "Supervisor" is now more generally used in industry for the first level of management and is espe cially appropriate since the emerging role of women in super visory (and higher) positions has rendered the earlier, gender specific term less properly descriptive. Moreover, although the orientation of the book is to manufacturing operations, the prin ciples and techniques discussed have wide application in office operations, where the term "supervisor" is the designation uni versally used. To retain continuity with the previous editions, the compromise term "foreman/supervisor" was adopted. As in previous editions, each chapter is written by an authority in the ~ubject covered. Each, morever, stands on its own feet, i. e. , it can be read as a separate article, independent of preceding or succeeding chapters.

Download or read book Madam Foreman written by Amana Cooley and published by Phoenix Books. This book was released on 2012-02-27 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For better or worse The People vs. O.J. Simpson served as a mirror of modern America. It was all there - wealth, fame, celebrity, sex, race, adultery, drugs, domestic abuse, and murder - acted out by a cast that cut across all segments of society in a drama that polarized the nation. And to witness it, all anyone had to do was turn on the television. As winter turned to spring and spring to summer, opinions formed and then hardened. Research polls reported deep divisions along racial lines and the opininon pages filled with commentary that tried to explain how so many could look at the same evidence and reach such starkly different conclusions. But what people saw in the trial of the century simply reflected their own backgrounds and beliefs. In the end, that was the most revealing verdict of all. Capturing the experiences of the jurors who decided this trial was not an easy feat. Throughout this book the insight and opinions of the primary narrators, Juror #230, foreperson Armanda Cooley; Juror # 98, Carrie Bess; and Juror #984, Marsha Rubin-Jackson, are expressed in their own words. Only they can, and do, reveal the view from the jury box." Phoenix Books is pleased to offer Madam Foreman in newly created ebook format which has been digitally enhanced to include a fully linked table of contents to ensure an enjoyable reading experience on all portable devices.
