Book Synopsis The Flow and Force Characteristics of Supersonic Airfoils at High Subsonic Speeds by : W. F. Lindsey
Download or read book The Flow and Force Characteristics of Supersonic Airfoils at High Subsonic Speeds written by W. F. Lindsey and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted at subsonic Mach numbers in the Langley rectangular high-speed tunnel on five supersonic airfoils and, for comparison, on two subsonic airfoils. Two-dimensional data were obtained by pressure measurements and schlieren photographs at angles of attack from 0 degrees to 4 degrees for Mach numbers between 0.30 and 0.90 for these 6-percent-thick symmetrical airfoils.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The sharp leading edge and mid-chord maximum thickness location of supersonic airfoils combine to create complex flow features at low speeds. Separation bubbles form at very low angles of attack and grow tremendously as incidence is increased further. These separated regions can have a large influence on the performance characteristics of the airfoil and are very sensitive to the ambient flow conditions. Recently, interest in supersonic business jets has promoted many questions regarding how to accurately model these complex flow physics. Four airfoil geometries have been selected for study, three of which are supersonic geometries"--Abstract, leaf iii.
Book Synopsis The Reversibility Theorem for Thin Airfoils in Subsonic and Supersonic Flow by : Clinton E. Brown
Download or read book The Reversibility Theorem for Thin Airfoils in Subsonic and Supersonic Flow written by Clinton E. Brown and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present paper makes use of and extends a paper by Munk in which simple dynamic concepts are used to prove that the lift-curve slope and thickness drag of supersonic airfoils or system of airfoils with supersonic edges are the same when the airfoil is flown in a reversed direction. This extension of Munk's work provides a proof that the thickness drag, lift-curve slope, damping in roll, and the damping-in-pitch parameter remain the same when any airfoil is reversed, in both subsonic and supersonic flow. The theorem applies to cases in which the trailing-edge velocities are finite; no restrictions are placed on plan form.

Book Synopsis Method of Calculating the Lateral Motions of Aircraft Based on the Laplace Transform by : Harry E. Murray
Download or read book Method of Calculating the Lateral Motions of Aircraft Based on the Laplace Transform written by Harry E. Murray and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lateral motions of aircraft are obtained by means of the Laplace transform which gives solutions in terms of elementary functions for the free motions and the motions due to forcing step functions. The lateral stability of a specific airplane and certain of its free and forced motions are calculated.
Book Synopsis A Summary of Ground-loads Statistics by : John R. Westfall
Download or read book A Summary of Ground-loads Statistics written by John R. Westfall and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper briefly summarizes the more important statistical data obtained by the NACA on the subject of ground loads. The information presented relates primarily to landing-impact and taxiing loads; however, some limited data are also presented on one phase of ground-handling loads, namely, braking friction. A number of experimental and theoretical papers dealing with various aspects of the subject are listed in the bibliography.
Book Synopsis The Subsonic Aerodynamic Characteristics of Two Double-wedge Airfoil Sections Suitable for Supersonic Flight by : Joseph Solomon
Download or read book The Subsonic Aerodynamic Characteristics of Two Double-wedge Airfoil Sections Suitable for Supersonic Flight written by Joseph Solomon and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-speed wind-tunnel tests have been made to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics at subsonic speeds of two symmetrical double-wedge airfoil sections of 4- and 6-percent-chord thickness suitable for application to supersonic aircraft. Section coefficients of lift, drag, and quarter-chord pitching moment are presented for a moderate rang of angles of attack at Mach numbers up to approximately 0.93. Comparisons are made between the significant characteristics of the double-wedge airfoils and those of the NACA 65-206 airfoil as an index of the merit of the former subsonic speeds.

Book Synopsis Pressure Rise Associated with Shock-induced Boundary-layer Separation by : Eugene S. Love
Download or read book Pressure Rise Associated with Shock-induced Boundary-layer Separation written by Eugene S. Love and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some recent contributions to the problem of shock-induced separation of the boundary layer are examined, and additional analytical and experimental results are presented. The probable ranges of pressure rises and flow deflections associated with separation are indicated. Consideration is given to the effects of Mach number, adverse pressure gradient, and Reynolds number for laminar boundary layers and to the effects of Mach number, Reynolds number, and ratio of sepcific heats for turbulent boundary layers.
