Book excerpt: How my quest for perfect breast milk helped me lose 24 kilos in only 8 weeks after the birth of my 4th baby. The cover of this book suggests it is a diet book. Or a weight loss book. It is so much more than that. It is a first hand account of a mother, who through societal pressure felt she had messed up her first 3 births (and kids). Share Sharny's journey as she tells you how she went from being the slave in her life, feeling trapped as though she were in a coffin called "bad parenting," with each new birth, she felt like she was driving a nail of failure on herself. Too tired to function, not enough milk, etc etc. All she wanted to be was the perfect mother to her children, but through lack of confidence, stopped listening to her intuition and became her worst enemy. With baby number 4, she decided to do things differently, very differently. Through ignoring society, listening to her inner voice and really focussing on herself as a mother, she turned her life around. She changed her eating to be for wellness and best quality breastmilk, and as a result lost 24kg in 8 weeks. But if that's all you get from the book, you only read the cover. Inside is a treasure trove of advice, and the courageous story of a public figure who through honesty to herself, turned her life around in a way that any woman can relate. And benefit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exhausted. Frazzled. Worn out. This is how Kimberley Welman felt after giving birth to three babies, including twins, within 19 months. Once a marathon runner, Kimberley could barely jog around the block without wanting to keel over, but she knew she had to do something. Her health and sanity were at stake. With no clear sense of where to begin, Kimberley tried CrossFit (expensive), classes at her gym (hard to get to), running (too hard on her recovering body). Months later, she finally found a training partner in fellow mother Victoria Reihana, and discovered the joys of clean eating and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). What began as one mother's mission to get her body back, has become a global movement and ever-expanding online community, full of women (with and without children) motivating one another to live healthier lives. Featuring recipes, exercise routines and inspirational advice, The Stay Strong Mummy Fitness Plan will fill the mother-shaped hole in the current fitness landscape.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At least since the 1940s neo-Darwinism has prevailed as the consensus view in the study of evolution. The mechanism of evolution in this view is natural selection leading to adaptation, working on a substrate of adapta tionally random mutations. As both the study of genetic variation in natural populations, and the study of the mathematical equations of selec tion are reckoned to a field called population genetics, population genetics came to form the core in the theory of evolution. So much so, that the fact that there is more to the theory of evolution than population genetics became somewhat obscured. The genetics of the evolutionary process, or the genetics of evolutionary change, came close to being all of evolutionary biology. In the last 10 years, this dominating position of population genetics within evolutionary biology has been challenged. In evolutionary ecology, optimization theory proved more useful than population genetics for interesting predictions, especially of life history strategies. From develop mental biology, constraints in development and the role of internal regula tion were emphasized. From paleobiology, a proposal was put forward to describe the fossil record and the evolutionary process as a series of punc tuated equilibria; thus exhorting population geneticists to give a plausible account of how such might come about. All these developments tend to obscure the central role of population genetics in evolutionary biology.

Each chapter contains 3-4 stories of moms who have already conquered their weight loss battles and share their wisdom and advice to the moms reading Fit Moms For Life. Their stunning before and after pictures are a reminder of what is possible. The workout plan is anti-cardio based. We believe that long distance cardio goes against the goals of weight loss, therefore we don’t prescribe it at all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lifeguard Training Activities and Games is a complete resource for aquatics managers or lifeguard supervisors responsible for conducting site-specific on-the-job training for lifeguards. The compilation of games, skill drills, activities, and guidance enhances training and conditioning of lifeguards and creates a high-performing staff. Throughout the book, the focus is on keeping activities fun and engaging to promote participation and ensure your lifeguards acquire the skills they need in order to take action in an emergency. The book contains more than 70 proven training activities divided into chapters by type of lifeguard skill. Each activity is short enough to be part of an in-service or class warm-up session. Most have variations, allowing for continued challenges of participants performances through increasing levels of difficulty. The drills, games, and activities improve lifeguards general aquatic skills and physical fitness; surveillance, emergency response, and rescue skills; and teamwork and problem-solving skills. With this knowledge and training, you will be able to develop and maintain a high-performing lifeguard staff. Certification as a lifeguard is the first step in the overall training process. The real training begins on the job, and the responsibility for that training is left to the aquatics manager or lifeguard supervisor. Lifeguard Training Activities and Games makes that training fun, engaging, meaningful, and practical." -- Publisher.
