Ryder Nash would have bet his best Stetson that you’d never see him walk down the aisle. But when the city girl with pink-streaked hair and a frog tattoo hatches a plan to expose the conman who married his sister, no idea is too crazy. And even though Monica might be the worst rancher’s wife he’s ever seen, he can’t stop thinking about the wedding night they never had. What was supposed to be a temporary marriage for revenge is starting to feel a little too real...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary weddings in the United States can be extravagant, highly ritualized, and costly affairs. From the intricate details of the wedding dress, to the painstaking selection of flowers, to the festively-packaged favors offered to guests, they are often the culmination of months of fastidious planning and preparations. In Something Old, Something Bold, sociologist Beth Montemurro takes a fresh look at the wedding process, offering a perspective not likely to be found in the slew of planning books and magazines readily available to the modern bride. Focusing on two events - bachelorette parties and bridal showers - Montemurro draws upon years of ethnographic research and interviews to explore what these prenuptial events mean to women participants and what they tell us about the complexity and ambiguity of gender roles. The innovation of the bachelorette party - a celebration of the bride-to-be's premarital sexual identity - and the addition of men to the domestically oriented shower have often been thought to indicate gender convergence and a more progressive attitude toward power relations between men and women. But, Montemurro suggests that this is not always the case. her friends and family, who present elaborate and exaggerated scenarios that demonstrate both what she is sacrificing and what she is gaining. Ultimately, Montemurro argues, prenuptial rituals contribute to the stabilization of gender inequalities - that American society at the turn of the twenty-first century is still very much married to tradition and traditional conceptions of masculinity and femininity.

Will love get its due at long last?

She went in with only the promise of the $250K payoff as her motivation, but it's been a long year. From the first dance in the rain, to the town vigil to pray for her fertility, camera crews have caught it all, and Nat and Jacob are surrounded by every resident of Rangers End as they watch the past year play out in perfectly edited snippets of their time together. While Rangers End isn't what she grew up thinking it was from her side of the tracks, she can't stay here without Jacob. But they haven't talked about the future, and she can't take the chance with her heart. Not now with so much riding on making the right choice. MARRIED in Rangers End Dr. Jacob Henry can't lose his wife now, especially since he loves her, since he's put himself out there as much as a man can to show her how much she means to him. He organized a parade, built her a house, loved her until he couldn't see straight. It took a while, but she'd said she loved him. Why won't she stay? He's running out of time as they watch the moments that brought them to where they are—the good, the bad, the tragic. His happily ever after will only be happy with Nat by his side. He can't lose her now.
