This book was released on 2012-08-31 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features the photo art of the Sensual Goddess Tarot deck created by Frederick and Oleanna Potter. It is primarily designed to be an art book for collectors of fantasy and sensual photo art. However, included in this book are also descriptions of each card and their meanings as well as a section on how to read the cards with a special description of the "Venus Spread" which was designed specifically for this deck. And so one could also consider this book to be a companion piece for those who already own the Sensual Goddess Tarot Deck. As this is an art book, if you are looking for a book to teach you how to read Tarot cards or other information on the Tarot, then it would be recommended that you acquire one or more of the many fine works that are currently available by qualified authors. The artwork in this book is the product of almost three years of painstaking production and involved the construction of props and costumes, photorealistic 3D environments, thousands of model photography frames taken and extensive post production work. This deck is a beautiful addition to the Tarot genre and there is no other deck like this in the world. Frederick Potter is a world renown photo artist who has had his work appear in numerous publications, web sites, art galleries and television specials. He is considered by many to be one of the world's foremost experts on photo image manipulation. He has authored the seminal book "RAW SKIN - Studio Edition" which describes many of the techniques used to create the images you see in this book and has taught at Mount Royal College as well as the Alberta College of Art in Calgary. He currently owns and operates the glamour photo studio "Editions by Frederick" in Calgary. Oleanna Potter is Frederick's wife, muse and the subject of most of the images created for this Tarot deck. Her spiritual experiences, background and history that led her to meet and marry Frederick were significant factors in the decision to create this Tarot deck. The story of this journey is outlined in the introduction to this book. In all aspects of the concept, Oleanna is the perfect choice to portray the archetype of the Sensual Goddess. This book will undoubtably become a collectors piece, as will the cards themselves. Some may choose too simply purchase the actual deck, however for those who want a greater appreciation of the art itself, this book provides large color reproductions of each card and will be a valuable addition to the collection of any serious aficionado of sensual fine art. The Tarot finds its roots in mediaeval, celtic, pagan and other ancient traditions that celebrate the goddess archetype. Like the many famous paintings, sculptures and drawings from the past great masters who depicted the many forms of goddesses, these illustrations also contain artistic nudity and is intended for adults.

Book excerpt: Beyond Vision is the first English-language collection of essays on art by Pavel Florensky (1882–1937), Russian philosopher, priest, linguist, scientist, mathematician – and art historian. In addition to seven essays by Florensky, the book includes a biographical introduction and an examination of Florensky’s contribution as an art historian by Nicoletta Misler. Beyond Vision reveals Florensky’s fundamental attitudes to the vital questions of construction, composition, chronology, function and destination in the fields of painting, sculpture and design. His reputation as a theologian and philosopher is already established in the English-speaking world, but this first collection in English of his art essays (translated by Wendy Salmond) will be a revelation to those in the field. Pavel Florensky was a true polymath: trained in mathematics and philosophy at Moscow University, he rejected a scholarship in advanced mathematics in order to study theology at the Moscow Theological Academy. He was also an expert linguist, scientist and art historian. A victim of the Soviet government’s animosity towards religion, he was condemned to a Siberian labor camp in 1933 where he continued his work under increasingly difficult circumstances. He was executed in 1937.

Book excerpt: The landmark text about the inner workings of the unconscious mind—from the symbolism that unlocks the meaning of our dreams to their effect on our waking lives and artistic impulses—featuring more than a hundred images that break down Carl Jung’s revolutionary ideas “What emerges with great clarity from the book is that Jung has done immense service both to psychology as a science and to our general understanding of man in society.”—The Guardian “Our psyche is part of nature, and its enigma is limitless.” Since our inception, humanity has looked to dreams for guidance. But what are they? How can we understand them? And how can we use them to shape our lives? There is perhaps no one more equipped to answer these questions than the legendary psychologist Carl G. Jung. It is in his life’s work that the unconscious mind comes to be understood as an expansive, rich world just as vital and true a part of the mind as the conscious, and it is in our dreams—those personal, integral expressions of our deepest selves—that it communicates itself to us. A seminal text written explicitly for the general reader, Man and His Symbolsis a guide to understanding the symbols in our dreams and using that knowledge to build fuller, more receptive lives. Full of fascinating case studies and examples pulled from philosophy, history, myth, fairy tales, and more, this groundbreaking work—profusely illustrated with hundreds of visual examples—offers invaluable insight into the symbols we dream that demand understanding, why we seek meaning at all, and how these very symbols affect our lives. By illuminating the means to examine our prejudices, interpret psychological meanings, break free of our influences, and recenter our individuality, Man and His Symbols proves to be—decades after its conception—a revelatory, absorbing, and relevant experience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arthur E. Waite and artist Pamela Colman Smith's Rider-Waite Tarot (1909) is the most popular Tarot in the world. Today, it is affectionately referred to as the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot in recognition of the high quality of Smith's contributions. Waite and Smith's deck has become the gold standard for identifying and analyzing contemporary Tarot and other meditation decks based on archetypes. Developments in both visual and literary history and theory have influenced Tarot since its fifteenth-century invention as a game and subsequent adaptations for esotericism, cartomancy, and meditation. This analysis consider Tarot in relation to established modern and postmodern art movements, such as Symbolism, Surrealism, and Pattern and Decoration Art, as well as the concepts and theories informing both the dominance and the dissolution of the modernist "grid" and hierarchical priorities. This work also explores the close connection between Tarot and the invention of the literary novel and includes new material on the representation of Tarot in film and fiction. A new chapter addresses the growing influence of the archetypal "shadow" and "shadow work" on Tarot as an artistic form, narrative genre, and practice in the new millennium.
