Something must be done. Family Driven Faith equips Christian parents with the tools they need to raise children biblically in a post-Christian, anti-family society. Book Synopsis Families and Faith by : Vern L. Bengtson
Download or read book Families and Faith written by Vern L. Bengtson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-04 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Distinguished Book Award from American Sociology Association Sociology of Religion Section Winner of the Richard Kalish Best Publication Award from the Gerontological Society of America Few things are more likely to cause heartache to devout parents than seeing their child leave the faith. And it seems, from media portrayals, that this is happening more and more frequently. But is religious change between generations common? How does religion get passed down from one generation to the next? How do some families succeed in passing on their faith while others do not? Families and Faith: How Religion is Passed Down across Generations seeks to answer these questions and many more. For almost four decades, Vern Bengtson and his colleagues have been conducting the largest-ever study of religion and family across generations. Through war and social upheaval, depression and technological revolution, they have followed more than 350 families composed of more than 3,500 individuals whose lives span more than a century--the oldest was born in 1881, the youngest in 1988--to find out how religion is, or is not, passed down from one generation to the next. What they found may come as a surprise: despite enormous changes in American society, a child is actually more likely to remain within the fold than leave it, and even the nonreligious are more likely to follow their parents' example than to rebel. And while outside forces do play a role, the crucial factor in whether a child keeps the faith is the presence of a strong fatherly bond. Mixing unprecedented data with gripping interviews and sharp analysis, Families and Faith offers a fascinating exploration of what allows a family to pass on its most deeply-held tradition--its faith.

Download or read book Faith, Family, Fitness, Food Motivational Journal written by Benjamin Lee and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-09-24 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you done with the EXCUSES? Are you ready for CHANGE? Then let's go! My name is Benjamin Lee. In August of 2016, I was 38 years old, fat, and without a lot of confidence. I felt like I was stuck. I wasn't happy with my weight. I wasn't happy with my body. In fact, I couldn't t into some of my clothes. Would things ever change for me? On August 28th, 2016 things would change for me...I began my year of transformation.I started exercising six days a week, 25-35 minutes per workout. I began eating six times per day and taking the proper supple- ments. And I began to do something else- I started journaling everything I did. This was a big part of my success. I planned and prepared what and when I was going to eat. I did my best to record everything I consumed. I didn't always document perfectly, but putting pen to paper helped me tremendously - it will help you too. To be inten- tional with your plans is powerful. Putting your thoughts down on paper is also powerful; it makes things that much more real.I had another realization in 2016. I recognized that to transform our physical bodies we must also transform our mindset. When we get our mindset right, the body will follow. To help get my mind right, I began to write out motivational thoughts to myself. I would write down certain phrases over and over to ood my mind with good thoughts.I also wrote my prayers out on a daily basis. I love doing this. It forces me to slow down and really think about what I'm asking and saying to God. I also began to make a gratitude list. The more I focused on positive thoughts and the many blessings I have, the better I felt! Now it's your turn to do the same. I believe you can make the changes you desire to make, but it will take effort. It will take time on your part. It will take planning and preparation for you to be successful. You will need to think hard about why you want to make the necessary changes. There's no time for us to make excuses. We need to be bold and courageous. We need to trust in our God. We need to ll our minds with positive thoughts. Remember what the apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:8:"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if thereis any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."The Holy Spirit reminds us about the power of our mind and our thoughts. Christians' minds should be focused on our Jesus. When we allow junk into our minds, bad things will happen. Our minds are powerful. We need to be careful how think. The same could be said with respect to how we talk to ourselves. Many people speak to them- selves in a way they would never speak to others. When people constantly tell themselves, "I stink," "I'm worthless," or "I'm never going to be successful" they become what they tell themselves. Be careful how you speak to yourself. Be careful with what you allow into your mind. Our brains are powerful! We are reminded in Psalm 139:14,"...I am fearfully and wonderfully made..."When I began my journey in 2016, I visualized myself being successful. Now I want you to do the same. This journal will help you to grow in your faith, enjoy the blessings God has given you, and accomplish your fitness goals. This journal is designed to guide you through the first 31 days of your new journey. It also can be at any point in your journey of becoming stronger.Everyday, you have space to...* Write out your daily prayer to God. Weneed time to pray, Mark 1:35.* Write out five things you are gratefulfor each day. We have many reasons to over ow with gratitude, Colossians 2:7.* What kind of exercise you will perform for the day.* What you plan to eat and then what you actually ate. * A space to write out something motivational for yourself.* You will also be able to read a motivational thought from me to help you along the way.Are you ready?Benjamin Lee

Book excerpt: This fascinating book guides family therapists in recognizing the importance of their clients’spirituality or religion to therapy. Experienced therapists demonstrate how to incorporate patients’spiritual beliefs in successful family therapy. Religion and the Family explains how the spirituality of individuals and families can be used as a valuable resource for understanding and healing family problems. Therapists will learn to utilize a couple’s or family’s particular god-construct as a fundamental part of the treatment system. Through a balanced combination of theory and clinical data, this comprehensive book gives family therapy practitioners and graduate-level students insight into the role of spirituality in therapy. Beginning with a brief historical overview of the relationship between religion and therapy, the book emphasizes the three areas of theory, clinical applications, and research. Family therapists will find important topics applicable to their practice, such as a model for the use of religion in therapy, a model for taking a spiritual genogram, observations about interfaith marriages, and a theory of therapy as spirituality. Graduate-level students, therapists in training, and therapists needing an introduction to religion in therapy will find this a valuable guide for incorporating spiritual and religious factors into treatment systems.

Dr. Matthews points out that encouraging an integration of religious beliefs and practices in medical settings can have important benefits for the entire medical community, from patients and doctors to national health policy makers. Download or read book Sacred Matters written by Wesley R. Burr and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sacred Matters explores the multi-disciplinary literature about the role of religion in family life and provides new research and a new theory about ways various aspects of the sacred are helpful and harmful. The authors hope that their new conceptual framework will stimulate new research and encourage the creation of new intervention programs designed to help families. Sacred Matters features: a new conceptual framework and theory about how, when, and why sacred matters influence family processes and outcomes new qualitative and quantitative research collected in a variety of ways from people with different religious perspectives in different geographical areas an expansion in theory and research about the role of forgiveness, sacrifice, prayer, and sanctification in family life the integration of studies and issues from psychology, sociology, family studies, anthropology, and religion. This book raises the bar in creating new theories about family processes and in the integration of theory, research, and application. It begins with a review of the previous literature and then expands the research about sanctification to create a new general theory (or model) about ways sacred processes help and hinder families. Next the authors expand the theory and research about the role of forgiveness, sacrifice, and prayer in families. New theory and research are then added about loving, coping with conflict, dealing with undesirable behavior, generational relationships, morality, and the psychosocial aspects of religion. The authors then describe ways sacred theory can be integrated with other theories and ways it provides new explanations about broader social problems. The book concludes with new quantitative research and suggestions for future research. Researchers, practitioners, and advanced students in several disciplines will find this volume valuable. It will expand and enrich the reading in graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in areas such as family studies, human development, marriage and family therapy, the psychology of the family and the psychology of religion, the sociology of the family and the sociology of religion, pastoral counseling, anthropology, and social work.
