Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No Test Without a Testimony I would like to share some experiences that brought me closer than I had ever imagined to God. I would like to take this opportunity to show you how grief makes God clearer. Throughout this book I hope you share in the knowledge and experience that I gained from the collapse of the entirety of my world. In 2015 death knocked on my door once again. I felt so hopeless and despondent. it felt new. Like I had never lost anyone before even though I had. The beauty of it all is, l experienced Gods grace and mercy through it all. When David said, Goodness and mercy will follow me, he was right. In my struggle with grief, I learned to let go and allow the peace of God to take over my bleeding heart. Pain and sorrow were real, and no one could bear the weight of grief alone and survive. I couldnt carry my loss alone; l had to depend on God and his presence. I let him in my life, and it was like having a friend walking with me through a dark and dangerous tunnel. He carried me through a broken heart, through streams of tears and fear, and then through a safe haven of peace and joy. We walked together on the path to recovery while l talked with him and he talked back to me. I grew to trust him and became mature and able to love him through all the seasons of life. I know without a shadow of doubt that in my time of sorrow, he was there to comfort me and to lift my soul. I hope to comfort you as l share with you what has worked for me.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does God have a hope to offer us in times of pain? Can God meet and sustain us even if our circumstances don’t improve? One of the few guarantees in life is that we will suffer. Everything around us is broken. Each of us has an expiration date. A few years ago, Eric and his wife, Elizabeth, together with their young children, were confronted with this unavoidable reality when she was faced with a terminal cancer diagnosis. Shattered by grief, they began to wrestle with what it means to follow Jesus when everything around them seemed to be giving way. What this pastor and his wife discovered were a set of truths about God from Scripture that provided the resources they needed to survive—truths too often neglected by the modern world. God meets us in our grief, but not always in ways we expect or even want. Coming from that jumbled place of agony and assurance, Either Way, We’ll Be All Right is a journey through the darkness in hopes of discovering light on the other side.

What God desires most is a deep, personal relationship with each believer. In short, He wants to be our Father. Like all relationships, nothing tests devotion to God more than times of grief, sorrow, and loss. Relying on God is one thing easily uttered but meaning it with your heart during times of trial takes a greater amount of purposeful focus. Worshiping Through the Tears will help you walk with the Lord even when your heart is hurting the most. Through worship, you will learn to be open in conversations with God. Learn how to rely on His Holy Spirit to provide comfort—and ultimately find the peace and sense of joy promised in Scripture. “Getting over it” is not required nor should it be your goal. Walking with God through trials allows Him to experience your pain and sorrow, allows Him to hold you through grief, and enables you to experience His unbreakable love so you can get through the pain. The journey is a process that starts and continues with worship—even when you are Worshiping Through the Tears. www.encouragingworship.com

Book excerpt: That an unknown manuscript by C. S. Lewis should suddenly appear two decades after his death is remarkable. That it turns out to be a version of a previously published Lewis short story which some have accused of being a forgery, makes it a mystery. C. S. Lewis's "Light" manuscript appeared out of nowhere in 1985 after a different version of the story was published in 1977. Could "Light" be the final version of that story, the missing polished text which should have been published all along? And does it disprove or inflame the accusations of forgery? Charlie W. Starr explores the questions and reveals the truth that what Lewis scholars have previously believed about the story's origins is largely inaccurate, and that the insights into Lewis's thinking which "Light" reveals provide a new key to understanding some of Lewis's most profound ideas. "As literary journalism, both investigative and critical, it is top shelf." James Como, author of Remembering C. S. Lewis "Starr's book explores a vitally important theme in Lewis's work - light." Will Vaus, author of Speaking of Jack: A C. S. Lewis Discussion Guide "Starr has done us all a great service ... I can't recommend this book highly enough." Adam Barkman, author of C. S. Lewis and Philosophy as a Way of Life "Starr shines a new and illuminating light on one of Lewis's most intriguing stories." Michael Ward, author of Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C. S. Lewis Charlie W. Starr is professor of English and Humanities at Kentucky Christian University.

Book excerpt: This is an inspirational testimony of how God demonstrates His grace in human tragedy. Suzie Borrows battled for her husband’s life, praying for a miracle. Hers is a story of love, loss and new life; a story of holding on to God’s promises in faith; a story of talking to the Lord about everything and seeing Him answer prayer in unexpected and unimagined ways. This is the story of a woman laying her faith on the Word of God and believing Him for the literal truth of His Word; speaking His Word back to Him and humbly reminding Him of those promises. His answers to her heartfelt cries were provided through undeniable revelations which exceeded her dreams. Through His many mercies to Suzie, God’s purpose gradually became her purpose. As human beings we may all enjoy blessings, such as family, health and prosperity, but we will also likely suffer loss, hardship and grief. Suzie’s discovery of the ultimate power of God and His Word, along with her growing understanding of how much He truly loves us, transformed her life. Come along with her and experience the miraculous hand of God in the midst of her circumstances. He is no respecter of persons and wants you to know His love in a tangible way as well. Your faith will be ignited, just as Suzie’s was as she walked hand in hand with the Lord.

Book excerpt: "God Through the Lens of Grief" is a poignant memoir detailing my transformative first-year journey as a young, pregnant widow with two young children. At the age of 32, my husband's sudden passing from a brain hemorrhage left me grappling with profound loss and despair. In this book, I candidly share my raw emotions and vulnerabilities experienced throughout the grieving process. Struggling with my beliefs as a Christian and how God fitted into this life-changing event, this journey changed my relationship with God, as I discovered He wasn't a God who was 'far' away as what I always thought, but One who was so close to me in my grief, and cared for me and my children, despite my anger towards Him at the death of my husband and the father of our children. The most important thing however in this book is not so much my grief journey but who God became in my loss. In this book, I aimed to share and convey that God is the new life-giver, even when it feels and looks like everything is lost. He also is the restorer of broken dreams which can often follow when we face a loss; whether that is the loss of a spouse, child, business or health. And I know that this was the most important aspect of my journey, who God became to me in my grief, and what He restored to me; hope, joy, new dreams and a fulfilling life. This is who He desires to be to anyone who faces heartbreaking loss and grief. This journey brought me, despite the depths of my sorrow, a newfound and profound faith in God as He spoke to me through impressions of various scriptures, but also through dreams and words that came to me in my sleeping time, God started the restoration process in my life with a seed of hope and this has continued to grow. This memoir is a testament to the transformative power of faith and how even in our darkest moments, God's presence can illuminate the path to hope and renewal.

When Jonathan Pitts took his wife of 15 years into his arms for their anniversary dance, he had no idea that within a month he would be on a completely different journey, navigating life after Wynter's sudden death at the age of 38. One moment he was married to a successful author and magazine publisher, and putting the finishing touches on their book about marriage. The next he was a widower and a single father of four grieving daughters. Without warning, the future his family had planned together dissolved, leaving Jonathan trying to answer the question that echoed through his daughters’ hearts and his own: How could a loving God allow this unspeakable loss? My Wynter Season is Jonathan’s story of losing the most wonderful gift he had ever been given and his journey toward understanding life without her. Yet in the wilderness of his grief, Jonathan found himself surrounded by God’s extravagant love, and came to truly understand Christ’s life-giving promise that death is not the end.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a powerful introduction by Ross Gay and a moving afterword by Sidney Clifton, this special anniversary edition of The Book of Light offers new meditations and insights on one of the most beloved voices of the 20th century. Though The Book of Light opens with thirty-nine names for light, we soon learn the most meaningful name is Lucille—daughter, mother, proud Black woman. Known for her ability to convey multitudes in few words, Clifton writes into the shadows—her father’s violations, a Black neighborhood bombed, death, loss—all while illuminating the full spectrum of human emotion: grief and celebration, anger and joy, empowerment and so much grace. A meeting place of myth and the Divine, The Book of Light exists “between starshine and clay” as Clifton’s personas allow us to bear the world’s weight with Atlas and witness conversations between Lucifer and God. While names and dates mark this text as a social commentary responding to her time, it is haunting how easily this collection serves as a political palimpsest of today. We leave these poems inspired—Clifton shows us Superman is not our hero. Our hero is the Black female narrator who decides to live. And what a life she creates! “Won’t you celebrate with me?”

Book excerpt: For decades, Americans were vaguely aware that Islamist barbarians were in the deserts of the Middle East and in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan, executing "infidels" and raiding villages with unrecognizable names. But the Muslim world seemed far away, remote, and irrelevant to our daily lives. Then came the terrorist attacks of 9/11, followed by attacks at Fort Hood, the Boston Marathon, San Bernardino, and more. Now terrorists seem to be emerging everywhere, unleashing senseless death and destruction on our nation. They are here, and their goal is nothing less than global conquest. Motivated by ancient prophecies, they are flooding into Western countries determined to conquer our countries and establish a global Muslim caliphate. In The Barbarians Are Here, Dr. Michael Youssef provides clear insight into the motives and mission of the Islamic extremists. He offers practical steps we can take right now to begin a New Reformation that will restore the hope of Western civilization. It's not too late. We are not doomed to destruction, even though the barbarians are already here. But we haven't a moment to lose. "Let this book shape how you think, pray, and take the Gospel to the ends of the earth." -R. Albert Mohler, Jr., President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary "I want every American, every citizen, and every member of my family to read this book. It is foolhardy not to." -Pat Boone, Entertainer, Pat Boone Enterprises
