Download or read book The EZ-PZ Reading Book Series(tm): Volume 1 written by Joe Tadros and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-23 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simple little books designed to get your pre-schooler reading their first words(tm) Here's how we do it. Our books include 3 elements: EZ-PZ Reading Stories: Short, whimsical stories that incorporate short words with rhyming endings (usually 6-10 pages long and including 6-12 featured words) EZ-PZ Word List(tm): A list of the featured words immediately following each story for you to review with your child or student so they can practice the letter-sounds with repetition while seeing the slight variation between each word (e.g., BAT, CAT, HAT...). That's how they'll learn the connection between words and sound! EZ-PZ Flash Pages(tm): "Flash Pages" at the end of the book which list all of the featured words from the book in alphabetical order, one word per page (e.g., BAD, BAT, BOP, BUN, CAT, etc., as opposed to BAT, CAT, HAT). This allows your reader to practice reading the words again, but in a different context with different endings intermixed, making sure they're actually learning the words. If your child or student knows their letter-sounds, we think this is the best way for them to read their first words. This is why we stand behind our books with the Reading That Clicks(tm) Guarantee (read about it on our website: www.EZPZreader.com). Other benefits of our books: learn ~45 new words ending in -ad -at -og -op -un practice phonics fun with rhyming (which experts say is an important literacy skill) cute stories and characters build confidence build phonological awareness not all simple words (while our books feature "consonant-vowel-consonant" words, they also include some challenging words to learn other important reading skills, and vary the structure to avoid monotony) Here's how we're different than those little reading book sets: their books often feature a lot of repetitive sentences (Bill hugs mom; Bill hugs dad...) which can be boring for young, imaginative minds they tend to focus on groups of sight words or groups of simple words, but they don't usually focus on the same sound, to get readers to their "aha" moment their characters can sometimes be creepy This volume (Volume One) features the following 5 EZ-PZ Reading Stories: A Cat Named Tat A Dog Named Pog Fun in the Sun Lop's Toy Top Gad and His Rad Dad

Book Synopsis Cognitive Reliability and Error Analysis Method (CREAM) by : E. Hollnagel
Download or read book Cognitive Reliability and Error Analysis Method (CREAM) written by E. Hollnagel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-01-23 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growing dependence of working environments on complex technology has created many challenges and lead to a large number of accidents. Although the quality of organization and management within the work environment plays an important role in these accidents, the significance of individual human action (as a direct cause and as a mitigating factor) is undeniable. This has created a need for new, integrated approaches to accident analysis and risk assessment. This book detailing the use of CREAM is, therefore, both timely and useful. It presents an error taxonomy which integrates individual, technological and organizational factors based on cognitive engineering principles. In addition to the necessary theoretical foundation, it provides a step-by-step description of how the taxonomy can be applied to analyse as well as predict performance using a context-dependent cognitive model. CREAM can be used as a second-generation human reliability analysis (HRA) approach in probabilistic safety assessment (PSA), as a stand-alone method for accident analysis and as part of a larger design method for interactive systems. In particular, the use of CREAM will enable system designers and risk analysts to: • identify tasks that require human cognition and therefore depend on cognitive reliability • determine the conditions where cognitive reliability and ensuing risk may be reduced • provide an appraisal of the consequences of human performance on system safety which can be used in PSA.

Download or read book Remembering written by Wendell Berry and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2009-03-01 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A poetic novel of despair, hope, and the redemptive power of work deepens an award–winning author’s grand Port Williams literary project. After losing his hand in an accident, Andy Catlett confronts an agronomist whose surreal vision can see only industrial farming. This vision is powerfully contrasted with that of modest Amish farmers content to live outside the pressures brought by capitalist postindustrial progress, and by working the land to keep away the three great evils of boredom, vice, and need. As Andy’s perspective filters through his anger over his loss and the harsh city of San Francisco surrounding him, he begins to remember: the people and places that wait 2,000 miles away in his Kentucky home, the comfort he knew as a farmer, and his symbiotic relationship to the soil. Andy laments the modern shift away from the love of the land, even as he begins to accept his own changed relationship to the world. Wendell Berry’s continued fascination with the power of memory continues in this treasured novel set in 1976. “[Berry’s] poems, novels and essays . . . are probably the most sustained contemporary articulation of America’s agrarian, Jeffersonian ideal.” —Publishers Weekly “Wendell Berry is one of those rare individuals who speaks to us always of responsibility, of the individual cultivation of an active and aware participation in the arts of life.” —The Bloomsbury Review
Download or read book Kraken written by Wendy Williams and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The enthralling examination of one of the most popular and most intriguing animals in the deep blue sea The ocean is the last remaining source of profound mystery and discovery on Earth with eighty percent of it still largely unexplored; thus, it is of perennial fascination. In Kraken: The Curious, Exciting, and Slightly Disturbing Science of Squid, journalist Wendy Williams introduces one of the ocean’s most charismatic, monstrous, enigmatic, and curious inhabitants: the squid. More than just calamari, squid species are fascinatingly odd creatures, with much to teach us about our own species, not to mention the obsessive interest so many of us can't help but have for the enormous beast that is the giant squid, which is quick to attack sperm whales, and even submarines and boats. Williams also examines other equally enthralling cephalopods, including the octopus and the cuttlefish, and explores their otherworldly abilities, such as camouflage and bioluminescence. Kraken takes the reader on a wild ride through the world of squid science and adventure, along the way answering some riddles about how the human brain works, what intelligence really is, and what monsters lie in the deep. Wendy Williams weaves a rich narrative tapestry around her subject, drawing powerfully on the passions and discoveries of scientists, fisherman, and squid enthusiasts around the world.

Book excerpt: The Ottoman Empire began in 1300 under the almost legendary Osman I, reached its apogee in the sixteenth century under Suleiman the Magnificent, whose forces threatened the gates of Vienna, and gradually diminished thereafter until Mehmed VI was sent into exile by Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk). In this definitive history of the Ottoman Empire, Lord Kinross, painstaking historian and superb writer, never loses sight of the larger issues, economic, political, and social. At the same time he delineates his characters with obvious zest, displaying them in all their extravagance, audacity and, sometimes, ruthlessness.

Book Synopsis Saving Sammy by : Beth Alison Maloney
Download or read book Saving Sammy written by Beth Alison Maloney and published by Crown. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of one mother’s fight against the medical establishment to prove the link between infection-triggered PANDAS and her son’s sudden-onset OCD and Tourette syndrome. The summer before entering sixth grade, Sammy, a bright and charming boy who lived on the coast of Maine, suddenly began to exhibit disturbing behavior. He walked and ate with his eyes shut, refused to bathe, burst into fits of rage, slithered against walls, and used his limbs instead of his hands to touch light switches, doorknobs, and faucets. Sammy’s mother, Beth, already coping with the overwhelming responsibility of raising three sons alone, watched helplessly as her middle child descended into madness. Sammy was soon diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and later with Tourette syndrome. Unwilling to accept the doctors’ prognoses for lifelong mental illness and repeated hospitalizations, Beth fought to uncover what was causing this decline. Beth’s quest took her to the center of the medical community’s raging debate about whether OCD and Tourette syndrome can be caused by PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections). With the battle lines firmly drawn, Beth searched until she found two cutting-edge doctors who answered that question with a definitive yes. Together, they cured Sammy. Five years later, he remains symptom free.

Book Synopsis Survival in the Killing Fields by : Haing Ngor
Download or read book Survival in the Killing Fields written by Haing Ngor and published by Robinson. This book was released on 2012-10-25 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best known for his academy award-winning role as Dith Pran in "The Killing Fields", for Haing Ngor his greatest performance was not in Hollywood but in the rice paddies and labour camps of war-torn Cambodia. Here, in his memoir of life under the Khmer Rouge, is a searing account of a country's descent into hell. His was a world of war slaves and execution squads, of senseless brutality and mind-numbing torture; where families ceased to be and only a very special love could soar above the squalor, starvation and disease. An eyewitness account of the real killing fields by an extraordinary survivor, this book is a reminder of the horrors of war - and a testament to the enduring human spirit.
