Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some visitors from Outer Space are finding it difficult to engage in commerce especially among their own compatriots living on Earth because they are not comfortable using Earth currencies such as the Dollar, or the Euro. And their fellow travelers could easily hack into the bitcoin system if they wanted to. Therefore, they are choosing a rare Earth object as a medium of exchange. A small number of these objects are being released and the value will be determined based on the level of speculation as regulated by the League. It will be legal tender on the home planet for the settlement of all debts accumulated while visiting Earth. In the rare event that Earthlings acquire one of these objects they will be allowed to redeem them on any Extraterrestrial planet belonging to the League at a rate to be determined by the local jurisdiction. An Earth artisan has been chosen to create such object. It is a combination of primitive Earth graphics and poetry disguised to avoid suspicion when traded.

Book Synopsis Musical Instruments by : J. Kenneth Moore
Download or read book Musical Instruments written by J. Kenneth Moore and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 2015-10-13 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This insightful appreciation of musical instruments features more than one hundred extraordinary pieces from the Metropolitan Museum’s collection. Whether created to entertain a royal court, provide personal solace, or aid in rites and rituals, these instruments fully demonstrate music’s universal resonance and the ingenuity various cultures have deployed for musical expression. The results are astoundingly diverse: from Bronze Age cymbals and sistra to violins made by Stradivari, monumental slit drums from Oceania, and iconic twentieth-century American guitars. Stunning new photographs and a lively text reveal these objects to be works of both musical and visual art, as well as marvels of technology and masterpieces of design. Depictions of instruments and music making—paintings, statues, and pottery—further illuminate the narrative, providing a vivid counterpoint to these remarkable objects.

The stories here concern those collectors who left documentary records, and created and developed a taste for ethnographica in others. These men were rarely field collectors, and only occasional travellers. ... They were hand-on collectors for whom the pursuit, handling and possession of such objects was what mattered."--Introduction.
