Book excerpt: Sean and Abigail are forced orphans after their parents were killed by a government team whose sole purpose is to hunt down exceptions and force them to join the team or die. Exceptions derived from government testing to make super soldiers. After the many wars ended the government began to release the soldiers that they believed didn’t carry the gene in which they were injected with. But in some it laid dormant. As time went on the gene was passed on to younger generations who showed extraordinary abilities. in a post-apocalyptic world where only a few cities survived Sean and Abigail are two of many the gene was passed down to. But not only one gene was passed to them. They are put into hiding to hone their abilities until they are ready to strike those who took their parents from them. As they grow in age and skill they decide to act separately upon revenge. Along the way they meet allies to join the fight until they meet once again. Together nothing will stop them. They will have their revenge.

Book excerpt: Modern software systems are becoming more complex in many ways and have to cope with a growing number of abnormal situations which, in turn, are increasingly complex to handle. The most general way of dealing with these problems is by incorporating exception handling techniques in software design. In the past, various exception handling models and techniques have been proposed and many of them are part of practical languages and software composition technologies. This book is composed of five parts, which deal with topics related to exception handling in the context of programming language models, design methodologies, concurrent and distributed systems, applications and experiences, and large-scale systems such as database and workflow process mangagement systems. The 17 coherently written chapters by leading researchers competently address a wide range of issues in exception handling.

Download or read book Cherish the Exception written by John Allen Resko and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2015-04-30 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a warm September day in 1957, author John Allen Resko walked through the gates of Saint Charles into a world he was ill prepared to confront. He had no clear plan for the future and didn’t possess the financial means to follow another path. After concluding that the religious life and his temperament did not mesh, Resko, who had spent nine years pursuing a religious vocation, walked away. A continuation of The Gates of Saint Charles, Cherish the Exception narrates how his life evolved into something happy and unpredictable. Resko discusses how he reeducated himself, earned a doctorate from the University of Illinois, and began a successful scientific career in Oregon. With humor, Resko shares how he adapted to his new life in the scientific world, including his marriage and his research work in the area of hormones and behavior in nonhuman primates. Cherish the Exception offers a unique personal perspective of how Resko was able to reconcile his religious with scientific beliefs.

Book excerpt: Soon to be a major motion picture starring Academy Award winner Christopher Plummer, Lily James, and Jai Courtney. The Exception (originally published as The Kaiser’s Last Kiss), is a “crisp, adroit, and subtle tale of great personal power” (The New York Times), which follows the exiled Kaiser Wilhelm, the young Nazi officer assigned to guard him, and the Jewish maid who unwittingly comes between them. It is 1940 and the exiled monarch Kaiser Wilhelm is living in his Dutch chateau, Huis Doorn. The old German king spends his days chopping logs and musing on what might have been. When the Nazis invade Holland, the Kaiser’s staff is replaced by SS guards, led by young and recently commissioned SS officer Martin Krebbs, and an unlikely relationship develops between the king and his keeper. While they agree on the rightfulness of German expansion and on holding the nation’s Jewish population accountable for all ills, they disagree on the solutions. But when Krebbs becomes attracted to Akki, a Jewish maid in the house, he begins to question his belief in Nazism. As the threads of history conspire with the recklessness of the heart, The Kaiser, Untersturmfuhrer Krebbs, and the mysterious Akki find themselves increasingly conflicted and gravely at risk…
