This book was released on 1984 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Since the adoption of public law 94-142 in 1975, the education of exceptional children within the regular classroom environment has become a priority for educators everywhere. Due to lack of training and/or experience, however, many regular classroom teachers found themselves unsure of their ability to adequately meet the needs of these special children, and frustrated in their attempts to do so. Towards alleviating this situation, this Guide provides regular classroom teachers with information, ideas, and hopefully a new, more positive direction in the education of exceptional children. Specific behavioral characteristics for identification, prevalence, diagnostic techniques, and educational implication for the regular classroom are discussed in relation to speech, visual, and hearing impairment, mental retardation learning disabilities and giftedness. Identification, assessment, and remedial approaches are also discussed for specific problems in reading, arithmetic, spelling, and handwriting. Particular emphasis is placed on analyzing how the child learns, what his/her potential for achievement is and how that potential can be realized within the regular classroom. Finally, the five major approaches to reading are expanded upon to help the regular classroom teachers select the most appropriate method for each student.
