Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A History of Artillery traces the development of artillery through the ages, providing a thorough study of these weapons. From its earliest recorded use in battle over a millennium ago, up to the recent Gulf War, Balkan, and Afghanistan conflicts, artillery has often been the deciding factor in battle. Black shows that artillery sits within the general history of a war as a means that varied greatly between armies and navies, and also across time.

This book was released on 2005-03 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume continues the theme of the development of the Royal Artillery during the run-up to the Great War, fifteen years compared with the forty of VoL I, fifteen years devoted to definite preparation in which the developments in Organization, Armament and Training discussed in Vol I were co-ordinated to a common aim. On the other hand the breach between branches was widened by the separation between mounted and dismounted, and the general trend towards spacialization. So, in this volume a different method has been adopted in which the developments of each branch are recorded separately in three parts - The Field Army Artillery, The Siege Artillery and the Coast Artillery. Part V has a couple of chapters on the Auxiliary Artillery which included the Militia, Volunteers, the Special Reserve and the Territorial Force. The final Part VI deals with Regimental Institutions such as the Remount Department, the Riding Establishment, the RA Institution, the Artillery College, Gunnery courses, the RMA, the RA Mess and the Bands. One of the appendices provides a chart showing the distribution of units as on 1 Aug 1914. There is a very comprehensive index
Book Synopsis With Honour and Glory by : Ajs Sandhu

Book excerpt: The advent of the cannon many centuries ago added a new dimension to warfare, and soon became the weapon of choice of the Kings and Emperors. Since then artillery has evolved into a battle-winning factor, often being the determinant between success and failure. This book covers five great artillery battles fought in four continents over 136 years. The Battle of Gettysburg (1 to 3 Jun 1863) is the most 'written about' battle of the US Civil War. The Battle of Vimy Ridge (9 to 12 April 1917), which saw the Canadian Corps fight as one entity for the first time, commenced with the greatest artillery barrage in history (till then) - 983 guns! In the Battle of Bir Hacheim (Point 171) (27 May 1942) 2 Indian Field Regiment firing over 'open sights' knocked out 56 tanks of the German Afrika Korps, led by General (later Field Marshal) Erwin Rommel. The Battle of Chhamb (3 to 17 December 1971) recounts what was perhaps the toughest and most intensely fought battle of the Indo-Pakistan War. The Battles of Tololing and Tiger Hill fought during the Kargil Conflict in the summer of 1999 saw the Indian guns engaging targets at heights of 16000 feet!

Download or read book The Bengal Artillery written by E. Buckle and published by Leonaur Limited. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The guns and gunners of the Honourable East India Company Until the creation of 'The Raj', following the Indian Mutiny of 1857, the British held India with three native armies, supported by the troops of the British regular army, representing the presidencies of Madras, Bombay and the subject of this book, Bengal. Although all three presidencies could field troops with all the arms of the period, none of them possessed the élan of the Bengal Artillery. Indeed, the 'Red Men' of the Bengal Horse Artillery were a corps d'elite with few equals in military excellence or style. This book considers the history of both the Bengal Field and Horse Artillery from their inception in 1749, through the wars of the early nineteenth sentry as the British fought to claim India to the Anglo-Sikh Wars which concluded in 1849. Captain Buckle's book has long been considered the definitive work on its subject and covers formation, development, equipment and the campaigns of the Bengal Artillery in detail. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.
