Intervention programs have been created in an effort to address this societal issue. Unfortunately, many of these intervention programs are not evaluated for their effectiveness at reducing adolescent violence and anger. The Anger Management for Youth: Stemming Violence and Aggression program was evaluated in a human services agency (Eggert, 1994). Five participants completed the anger management program. Adolescent anger was assessed using the Profile of Mood States (POMS) in a pre-test, post-test format (McNair, Lorr, & Droppleman, 1981). Anger management logs were used to assess changes of negative thoughts and behaviors. Results from the POMS and the anger management logs were mixed. The POMS scores showed that three participants decreased their feelings of anger pretest to post-test, while two of the participants' scores increased pretest to post-test. The trend analysis on the anger management logs showed that negative thoughts and behaviors increased for three of the participants while two of the participants showed decreases in negative thoughts and behaviors. The results of the Anger Management for Youth: Stemming Violence and Aggression program was inconclusive in reducing the negative thoughts and behaviors of these participants using these measurement tools. Future research of this curriculum in the school setting and using different assessment tools is warranted"--Document.

Book excerpt: This results-based resource provides professionals with eight highly-effective lesson plans for teaching anger management to teens. Each lesson can stand alone or be used as an eight week anger management program. Designed and tested for small group settings, the lessons work for classroom lessons. Originally, co-facilitated by a substance abuse professional and a seasoned special education teacher, the focus is to help young adults realize that they have the power to take control of their lives and emotions. This work addresses the impact substance abuse has on the brain and emotions. Many teens believe they were "born angry' and cannot change. These lessons teach youth that they have the power to choose healthy responses to anger. Through engaging lessons, teens learn to, *use empowering language, *to take responsibility for their behavior, *and to understand the social, cultural, and personal influences that shape their thinking. Appendices include a reproducible pre/post-test and sample charts to use in the lessons. The lessons draw from several bodies of knowledge including cognitive intervention techniques, Eastern philosophy, brain research theories, and educational psychology.

Download or read book Anger Disorders written by Howard Kassinove and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2014-02-25 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anger is a daily experience. It is encountered in a number of interpersonal, family and occupational situations. Research indicates that even "normal" parents worry that they will lose control of their anger and harm their children. When short-lived and of low intensity, anger may be of some help to us; in contrast, when it is persistent and intense, it is typically highly disruptive.; This text reviews facts and theories of anger. Anger is differentiated from annoyance, fury, rage, hostility and the behaviours of aggression and violence, and attention is paid to understanding anger both as a normal experience and as a clinical disorder. Specific anger diagnoses are presented to describe disruptive anger states and traits. Anger in criminal populations is also discussed and behaviour-analytic, cognitive-constructivist and cross-cultural perspectives are presented in detail.; The book argues that it is important to understand the causes, correlations and outcomes of anger and to develop effective remediation programmes when anger is excessive and disruptive. Thus, following a meta-analyses of the effectiveness of published treatments, two chapters present "ideal" therapy programmes for adult and childhood adolescent anger disorders. Finally, a model is presented to help understand anger development and resolution.
