This book was released on 2014-10-10 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not a step by step traditional route book: it is supported by an online series of Google maps and gpx files designed to guide you across the country from Land's End to John O'Groats using a satellite navigation device, a smart phone or similar device that can navigate using gpx files. Links to all these electronic files are contained within the book, along with instructions on how to access them and adjust the route to meet your needs, if necessary. Accommodation on or near the route has also been listed to assist your planning along with a list of bike repair shops that you may need in an emergency. The locations of these places as well as local food stores are saved on the Google Maps and the gpx files. I have cycled End to End three times. With the safety of cyclists increasingly in the spotlight, I wanted to find and share a relatively safe route that was close to a straight line but used quiet roads, tracks and paths. After a year of researching and test riding, the result is a quiet route using mostly small roads and lanes and utilising cycle ways, old railway lines and canal tow paths where possible. This route therefore does contain a small amount of off- road cycling which follows mainly old railway lines and canal paths through beautiful countryside. However, the surfaces range from tarmac through cinder to bare earth and grass and will be affected by weather conditions. I have ridden the route on a road bike (a Cube Agree GTC Pro with Schwelbe Marathon tyres) in October and June to show that it is a feasible route. However, if you only want to ride on tarmac or the weather is against you, then I have also given instructions on how you can make a detour to avoid these parts – both en route or planning ahead. The route is designed to be used as a set of gpx files that are ready to go (download instructions in book). However, to add functionality and flexibility the book also contains links to the route maps on Google Maps. This will enable you to amend or reverse the route to suit your exact requirements, e.g. to divert to your chosen accommodation or bypass a certain section. The appendices contain basic instructions on how to use Google Maps and how to create a gpx file from your amended map to load onto your navigation device. Google Map images of the route are set out in the body of the book. These are too small a scale to navigate by but are intended to give you a good visual representation of the route. They are only included as an accompaniment to the gpx routes. The book includes a link to a free PDF version where you can take advantage of active hyperlinks (to Google Maps etc.) with the ability to zoom in on the reproduced maps and pictures in colour. Please make use of the Look Inside facility to see samples of the interior. Although the interior of the printed book is in black and white, as stated above you will be able to download a PDF version of the book in full colour for free (details in the book). This self-help resource is designed to provide everything you need to map your End to End cycle safely – either following my route in its entirety or deviating from it to suit your requirements. It is part of a series of books I have written to complete this challenge successfully. Also available on Amazon are: Land's End to John O'Groats: Self Help Cycle Guide tells you how to plan, prepare and train for this epic adventure. Land's End to John O'Groats - Cycling the Google Route: Roy's Mad Adventure is my travelogue detailing my experience of cycling this route.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wild Atlantic Way is a driving route along Ireland's Atlantic seaboard, covering over 2,350km of coastline and showcasing the region's breathtaking landscapes. This guide adapts the route for cyclists - and throws in a couple of other highlights (such as the Aran Islands and Killarney) for good measure. Since relatively few people are likely to have seven weeks to spare for a full Wild Atlantic Way tour, the book presents six self-contained cycle tours, each offering 7-10 days of riding. For the full Wild Atlantic Way experience, these distinct routes can be linked together into a 44-stage trip from Derry/Londonderry to Cork. Each route includes detailed advice on accommodation and facilities, plus optional detours and shortcuts and points of interest. The routes themselves are presented as 'route cards': ideal for use with a cycle computer, these pages provide 'at a glance' information for when you're on the road, covering navigation, facilities and local highlights. The guide covers all the practicalities - including transport, equipment and general tips on cycling in Ireland.

Book excerpt: This guidebook provides 14 stages of route description to cycling along the Moselle river, a route that offers stunning scenery, plentiful accommodation and places to eat and drink, and straightforward cycling throughout. A well-waymarked, generally downhill 512km route, it is mostly off-road and on well-surfaced cycle tracks (mainly asphalt) with virtually no gradients, and the majority is along the riverbank or on canal towpaths. From its source in the Vosges Mountains of eastern France, the Moselle flows through the French region of Lorraine and crosses into Luxembourg then into the German Rheinland region before it reaches its confluence with the Rhine at the west German city of Koblenz. Suitable for both veteran long-distance cyclists and for newcomers to cycle touring who wish to start with an easy-to-follow journey, the route can be completed in a week by fit cyclists, cycling two stages per day. Two weeks allow for alternative stages and optional excursions through the Saar and Rhine gorges and to visit the Boucles de Moselle and the city of Luxembourg, and give enough time for sightseeing and a leisurely riding pace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ideal gift for anyone thinking about cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats, even if to yourself. You will not find as much information to help you plan for the big ride in a single source anywhere else. Always dreamt about cycling end-to-end? Or maybe it's a new ambition. Either way this book has all the information you need to plan, train for and cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats (or John O'Groats to Lands End if you prefer). Even answers the questions you didn't know you needed to ask. This book has helped thousands of readers with tips and advice about: How to get to the start/from the finish Where you are going to sleep Equipment - what you need to take with you Nutrition - what you should eat and drink How much training you need to do Route creation including how to create your own personalised route with gpx file using Google Maps A narrative of somebody else's journey to get a feel for the experience and practical pointers on how to deal with some of the problems you may encounter What is it all about? One of the great thing about the end to end challenge is that it is a big, bold and ambitious challenge that everybody can understand (which helps if for your trying to raise sponsorship for charity) and that most people can achieve if they spend the right amount of time on the ride for their level of riding ability. The concept of cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats is quite simple, get on your bike at one end of the country and ride to the other end. That is why it is often referred to as cycling end to end (it's also less of a mouthful!). The problems start when you come to actually start thinking in detail about planning an end to end cycle. It suddenly looks a whole lot more complicated. Which is probably why you are here, looking for some advice. This book covers everything you need to know to plan and train for your epic cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats (LEJOG) or John O'Groats to Lands End (JOGLE). Like you, I scoured the internet looking for sites or guides that would tell me what I needed to know to plan my route from John O' Groats to Lands End train for the ride. I found an enormous quantity of sites and guides but most of them, whilst interesting, were of little help. I bought Land's End to John O' Groats route books that looked good but when I got into the detail I realised the proposed end to end route was not what I wanted. Eventually I found everything I needed, or learnt the hard way, but it took a long time. I just wished that someone had written: The Book I am Looking For That Has All The Answers I Need to Plan and Complete That Lands End to John O'Groats [or Vice Versa] Ride I've Always Talked About Doing But Never Got Around To But they hadn't. So, I decided to write it myself! (But the title was a bit of a mouth full so I changed it.) Reader comments: '...if you've never planned a ride like this before I would highly recommend this book...' '...really helpful and amusing enough to overcome my woefully short attention spa...' '...full of very practical tips and advice...' '...it's worth every penny...' '...excellent read for potential End to Enders...' '...the best by far of all that I have read; informative, practical, thoughtful and best of all humorous and entertaining...' '...I was finding the lack of information in a single source frustrating and then found this!...' '...enough detail and humour to leave the reader with the optimism that they too can meet the challenge themselves...' '...packed with useful information and practical guidance...' Book excerpt: I have always loved riding my bike; having the freedom to go where I choose, at my own pace. . . the physical pleasure and satisfaction of a hard day's ride, the fresh air, the work out, the fact that it's free. The bike has always been how I get to places. I wanted to see how far I could get.For Anna, a cycling enthusiast, the decision to ride 4,000 miles solo around the coast of the UK wasn't that hard. Following the river from London until it became the sea, then following the sea until it reached the mouth of the Thames again was a beautifully simple idea. But after epic highs, incredible lows, unforgettable scenery, and unpronounceable place names—as well as a hearty battle with some good old British weather—her simple idea turns into a compelling journey of self-discovery, and an eye-opening insight into what makes the island where she lives so special.

The cycling is easy, downhill and along dedicated cycle lanes, the countries visited are very cycle-friendly and the waymarking is excellent. The whole trip can be completed in two weeks by a fit cyclist. The guide includes plenty of information to help you plan your trip, with advice on travel, accommodation and facilities. A facilities table, glossary and list of useful contacts can be found in the appendices. Starting in the Swiss Alps with high mountains, deep glacial valleys and gorges, the route soon reaches Europe's third largest lake, the Bodensee, and its greatest mainland waterfall. After Basel, the Rhine becomes a broad river, now the world's busiest river trading artery. The middle Rhine, between Bingen and Koblenz, forces its way through the narrow rocky Rhine gorge, lined by romantic castles perched above Germany's finest vineyards. Finally, the river passes through low-lying Holland, famed for its many flood dykes and windmills.
