Book Synopsis What Comes After Nations? by : Harvey Garver
Download or read book What Comes After Nations? written by Harvey Garver and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2018-06-30 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHAT COMES AFTER NATIONS? The right question for these turbulent times. Much of this turmoil is a result of the conflict between nations around the world. Nations and nationalism are the most recent form of governance; however, while their numbers and sovereign powers increased over time, in today’s world, every nation’s sovereignty is under assault by powerful global forces. Humanity’s history is not just a collection of chance events; but instead, a long series of focused episodes that saw societies advance from wandering-hunter-gatherers back in the Stone Age, to farmers, to developers of cities, empires, and nations. Harvey Garver explores how humanity’s development has been motivated, guided and energized by the world’s orthodox religions, and explains how The Baha’i Faith, and its belief in Progressive Revelation, reveals a new spiritual principle leading to a burgeoning worldwide society with peace and prosperity for all humanity. Our ever-advancing civilization is leading us beyond our current immature and turbulent world, eventually and inevitably climaxing with the development of God’s Kingdom on Earth as the mature, ultimate, and highest level of society.
Book Synopsis Conservatism and the Kissinger–Mao Axis by : Lam Lai Sing
Download or read book Conservatism and the Kissinger–Mao Axis written by Lam Lai Sing and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2015-05-20 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kissinger’s dual-purpose instrument of the US-China and US-Soviet détente was devised to achieve a stable balance of power in the contemporary world in the second half of the 1960s. Stimulated by both Kissinger’s doctrine and the historical novel, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Mao’s global order of tripolarity was created to feature the new US-China relations in the early 1970s with his initiative of the ping-pong diplomacy through this Kissinger-Mao axis. This made his quest for a modernization revolution possible with the Western market oriented approach. Strengthening Mao’s modernization program, Xiaoping’s “good-neighborhood” policy was designed to induce the world to help modernize China. Vitally including Russia with the collapse of the Soviet Union, Deng’s policy helped maintain a peaceful and stable international environment, though it also marked the end of Mao’s global order. Perceiving the PRC’s rise as a threat to its dominance in the Asia Pacific region, the US containment effort was enhanced with US-Japanese collusion and siding with the Philippines and Vietnam in relevant maritime disputes with the PRC. The US united with the Republic of Korea, nations in Southeast Asia, and Australia in establishing a wide-range alliance to go against the “China threat.” The post-Cold War, eastward expansion of the US-led NATO and the Russian determination to be a great power again, contributed to tension with the United States. The Russian desire to maintain its nuclear deterrent capability was at odds with the US missile defense plans. Thus, the US deployment of its missile shield in Eastern Europe as part of its strategic configuration in Alaska and the Far East was to contain Russia from both the Far East and Europe.

Download or read book The Collapse and Recovery of Europe, AD 476-1648 written by Jack L. Schwartzwald and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-12-04 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the late 5th century A.D. marked the disintegration of order and security in Europe. It would be twelve centuries of trial and error before a successor political system--the nation-state--emerged to fill the void. The Eastern Roman Empire survived for a thousand years after the Western Empire's fall, shielding the West from the encroachment of militant Islam. During the same millennium, the Catholic Church unsuccessfully tried to resurrect a universal empire in the West. During the period of the Renaissance, Reformation and Thirty Years' War, the nation-state arose as Rome's successor. This is the story of those 1,200 years, an era that transformed the Western outlook from one bound to faith amidst chaos to one armed with reason and a belief in progress.
