And competed with the Beatles to top the charts? That's right, just one: the Rolling Stones. Download or read book Graceland's Table written by Ellen Rolfes and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2005-07-27 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graceland's Table is the first cookbook written with the full cooperation of Elvis Presley Enterprises. In addition to recipes from fans for Elvis, the book includes photographs of Elvis at home and full-color food photos taken in Graceland for the book. The 175 recipes in Graceland's Table come from two sources: EPE's archives of Elvis's favorite recipes and Elvis's fans. The recipes from the fans were solicited through EPE's electronic newsletter, its catalog, and the more than 400 fan clubs. Fans submitted a recipe they would have liked to cook for Elvis should they have been invited to Graceland for a meal and explained the reason for their choice. Fans were asked to submit recipes linked to a particular song or movie title or person in Elvis's life (e.g. Love Me Chicken Tenders, Colonel Parkerhouse Rolls, Blue Suede Berry Pie). Twelve recipes came from EPE and over 150 from the fans. The book also has 35 B&W photos of Elvis and Graceland and 20 full-color food photos, trivia, and stories by those who knew Elvis such as Joe Esposito, Elvis's road manager, Patty Perry, the only female member of the Memphis Mafia, and Marian Cocke, Elvis's nurse.

Book Synopsis Elvis Presley by : Kathleen A. Tracy
Download or read book Elvis Presley written by Kathleen A. Tracy and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2006-11-30 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 30 years after his death, Elvis Presley remains one of the most influential performers and recognized pop culture icons the world over. His then-unprecedented musical style-a fusion of blues, country, pop, bluegrass, and gospel-ushered in the age of rock n' roll and paved the way for generations of musicians and singers to follow. This biography will offer a seldom seen glimpse into the life of Elvis, tracing his family life, musical career, films, and legacy. The volume closes with a timeline and bibliography. Not only did Elvis usher in a new genre of music, he also came to represent the growing dissatisfaction young people had with the mores and conventions of the restrictive 1950s. At a time when the top pop stars were Pat Boone and Andy Williams, Elvis' blatant sensuality on stage and his smoldering presence off it made him the anti-establishment poster boy. This biography offers a seldom seen glimpse into the life and career of Elvis, tracing his family life, musical career, films, and legacy. Today, the King lives on in popular culture-on Top 20 lists, in film and television, on the radio, in cyberspace, and yes, even in the countless performances by Elvis impersonators throughout the world.

Book excerpt: By the end of 1968 Presley was artistically revitalised, re-emerging in a TV comeback special during December that year, slimmed down for the now iconic black leather suit, playing country-soul influenced rock like he meant it and loved it. In this second period of Presley's career, which lasted through to the end of 1970, he recorded some of his most enduring records, including "Suspicious Minds" and "In The Ghetto". Author Gillian Gaar shows how Presley reclaimed his rock and roll crown, making an extraordinary transition from fading balladeer to an engaged, vital artist.
