Book excerpt: The Church of God which sojourns at Rome, to the Church of God sojourning at Corinth, to them that are called and sanctified by the will of God, through our Lord Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, from Almighty God through Jesus Christ, be multiplied. Owing, dear brethren, to the sudden and successive calamitous events which have happened to ourselves, we feel that we have been somewhat tardy in turning our attention to the points respecting which you consulted us; and especially to that shameful and detestable sedition, utterly abhorrent to the elect of God, which a few rash and self-confident persons have kindled to such a pitch of frenzy, that your venerable and illustrious name, worthy to be universally loved, has suffered grievous injury. For who ever dwelt even for a short time among you, and did not find your faith to be as fruitful of virtue as it was firmly established? Who did not admire the sobriety and moderation of your godliness in Christ? Who did not proclaim the magnificence of your habitual hospitality? And who did not rejoice over your perfect and well-grounded knowledge? For ye did all things without respect of persons, and walked in the commandments of God, being obedient to those who had the rule over you, and giving all fitting honour to the presbyters among you. Ye enjoined young men to be of a sober and serious mind; ye instructed your wives to do all things with a blameless, becoming, and pure conscience, loving their husbands as in duty bound; and ye taught them that, living in the rule of obedience, they should manage their household affairs becomingly, and be in every respect marked by discretion.
Book Synopsis Madame Blavatsky on the Divine Mind in Nature by : Helena Petrovna Blavatsky

This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many of our distinguished scientists have derived honour and credit by merely dressing up the ideas of those old philosophers, whom they are ever ready to disparage, is left to an impartial posterity to say. An era of disenchantment and rebuilding has already begun. The cycle has almost run its course; a new one is about to begin, and the future pages of history may convey full proof of the above. The “Primal Being” is an emanation of the Demiurgic or Universal Mind, which contains from eternity the idea of the “to be created world” within Itself, which idea the Unmanifested Logos produces of itself. The first Idea, “born in darkness before the creation of the world,” remains in the Unmanifested Mind; the second Idea, a reflection from the Universal Mind, becomes clothed with matter and assumes objective existence.

Book Synopsis Triune Law Governs Universe and Man by : Helena Petrovna Blavatsky
Download or read book Triune Law Governs Universe and Man written by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and published by Philaletheians UK. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three hypostases of Universal Law are: 1. Karma-action makes the world go ’round. 2. Yajna-compassion / sacrifice is the very first conscious yearning. 3. Yugas-cycles are subservient to Karma. Motion is Nous and vice versa. From Chaos Nous was born to bring order. Madame Blavatsky quoting Plato on the motion that is able to move itself. Cicero quoting Plato on That which is always moved, being eternal. Taylor commenting on Plato’s rational soul that imparts well-being to itself, when it cultivates and perfects itself. Motion is unmanifested and manifested. Motion unmanifested is Parabrahman, Eternal Universal Motion. It is the Eternal Breath “which knows itself not,” Absolute Motion. When Motion is about to be manifested (First to Second Logos), the Eternal Breath thrills through the first manifested Atom (Monad), or “Æthereal Vibrations diffused throughout Space,” which is the Central Point (Unmanifested Logos) in the circle. Motion manifested (Third Logos) is the Ideal World. It is one everlasting perpetual motion of vortical vibrations. Motion becomes apparent in the Material World — ceaseless eternal vibration: rapid in the inorganic, slow in the organic. Deity is Law and vice versa. Matter is Nature and vice versa, She is the vessel or soul of spirit. Generation is not a “Creation” of Life, but a production of things to Sense, and making them manifest. Neither is Change Death, but an Occultation or hiding of that which was. Nature is uncontrolled by proud masters. She runs the universe by herself without the aid of gods. But Earth is our mother and kind nurse. Cyclic Law makes empires rise and fall, ever alternating periods of fat and slender cows, for all. Consciousness evolves spirally in curves that never re-enter into themselves. At certain periods, a preview of Its consummation may be glimpsed.

Book Synopsis The Notion of Heresy in Greek Literature in the Second and Third Centuries by : Alain Le Boulluec
Download or read book The Notion of Heresy in Greek Literature in the Second and Third Centuries written by Alain Le Boulluec and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-07-21 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by analogies betwen the construction of heresy and the representation of madness described by Michael Foucault in in Histoire de la folie à l'âge classique (Madness and Civilization), The Notion of Heresy in Greek Literature in the Second and Third Centuries demonstrates how the concept of heresy emerges in the work of Justin Matyr. It shows that this invention created a concept capable of dominating every current suspected of endangering ecclesial harmony, and transformed the tradition of Greek historiography of philosophical schools by combining it with the apocalyptic theme of diabolical conspiracy. Le Boulluec examines how this model is refined by Irenaeus, then modified by Clement of Alexandria and Origen. First published in 1985 as d'hérésie dans la littérature grecque (IIe-IIIesiècles), this newly translated work includes a substantial new introduction surveying literature in the previous decades. In line wth Walter Bauer's pioneering book, which overturned the confessional model making heresy a later falsification of orthodoxy, it shows that the notion of heresy was invented in the second century and then refined in order to remove all legitimacy from diversity and pluralism in the fields of doctrine and practice. Le Boulluec studies rhetorical practices and polemical assimilations to highlight key debates on the relationship between philosophy, Christianity, and Judaism, and to examine the conflict of interpretations that drive the exegesis of the Bible in constructing an orthodoxy.
