This book was released on 1998 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Individuals with patello-femoral syndrome often experience pain in the anterior aspect of the knee which can limit function and apparent strength. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a Cho-Pat knee strap on strength of the quadriceps femoris in subjects with symptoms consistent with patello-femoral syndrome. SUBJECTS: Twenty-six male and female volunteers ( -age = 20.7 ± 1.80) who complained of symptoms consistent with patello-femoral syndrome, or who had been previously diagnosed with chondromalacia patellae, patellar tendinitis, Osgood Schlatters, or patello-femoral pain syndrome and continued to experience symptoms participated in the study. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Concentric and eccentric knee extension strength was measured isokinetically at 60 degrees per second with the Cybex® Isokinetic Device. Strength was measured with and without the Cho-Pat strap in a random order. ANALYSES: Two separate repeated measures t-tests were performed to compare strength for both concentric and eccentric contractions with and without the Cho-Pat strap. Four independent measures t-tests were also computed to determine if order of testing had any significance on the outcome. RESULTS: No significant difference was found in quadriceps strength with or without the Cho-Pat strap during either concentric or eccentric motions. No significant difference was found in strength based on the order in which the testing was completed.
