Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Counseling by Michael Scott Nystul provides an overview of counseling and the helping professions from the perspective of art and science—the science of counseling that generates a knowledge base proven to promote competency and efficacy in the practitioner, and the art of using this knowledge base to build skills that can be applied sensitively to clients in a multicultural society. The Fifth Edition has been organized into three sections: (1) an overview of counseling and the counseling process, (2) multicultural counseling and counseling theories, and (3) special approaches and settings. It continues to address key topics and issues, including gender, culture, and sexual orientation, and offers ways to integrate multiculturalism into all aspects of counseling, rather than view it as a separate entity. Highlighting emerging trends and changes in ethical codes, as well as reflecting the latest updates to the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM-5), the book successfully illustrates the importance of art and science to modern-day counseling.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Psychological Assessment by : Gerald Goldstein
Download or read book Handbook of Psychological Assessment written by Gerald Goldstein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-02-16 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of psychological assessment has been undergoing rapid change. The second edition of this Handbook, published in 1990, appeared at the beginning of a decade marked by extensive advances in assessment in essentially all of its specialized areas. There are many new tests, new applications of established tests, and new test systems. Major revisions have appeared of established tests, notably the Wechsler intelligence scales. The time seemed right for a third edition, since even over the relatively brief period of ten years, many tests described in the second edition have been replaced, and are no longer commonly used. Furthermore, much new research in such areas as neuropsychology, cognitive science, and psychopathology have made major impacts on how many tests and other assessment procedures are used and interpreted. This third edition represents an effort to give the reader an overview of the many new developments in assessment, while still maintaining material on basic psychometric concepts in order for it to continue to serve as a comprehensive handbook for the student and professional.

Download or read book The Social Psychology of Clothing written by Susan B. Kaiser and published by Fairchild Books & Visuals. This book was released on 1997 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A single glance at our clothing reveals a wealth of information about how we perceive ourselves, each other, and our place in society. In this classic text, Susan B. Kaiser brings to the surface the unconscious thought processes we use to decide not just how clothes look, but what they mean. In a new section written especially for this updated edition, Kaiser addresses the increasingly multicultural emphasis of the study of clothing and appearance. She also reexamines fashion in terms of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, and social class, offering a more broad-based and inclusive vision of the social psychology of clothing.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explored the effects of three counselor factors (likeability, physical attractiveness, and ethical behavior) on the ratings of the counselor's Expertness, Attractiveness, and Trustworthiness by participants who read stimulus materials depicting a counseling session. This 2 X 2 X 2 analogue design employed the Counselor Rating Form - Short Form (Corrigan and Schmidt, 1983) to capture participants' perceptions of the counselor from one of eight possible combinations of likeable/unlikeable, physically attractive/physically less-attractive, and ethical/unethical behavior. Eighty one advanced graduate counseling students from a Midwestern university were randomly assigned to one of the eight conditions. Participants read a counselor biography, viewed a photograph, and read a transcript of a counseling session before rating the counselor using the CRF-S. Multivariate analyses and follow-up univariate analyses yielded significantly higher ratings for the likeable counselor (p
