Download or read book Filtering Techniques for Turbulent Flow Simulation written by Alvaro A. Aldama and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. 1 Scope of the Study The detailed and reasonably accurate computation of large scale turbulent flows has become increasingly important in geophysical and engi neering applications in recent years. The definition of water quality management policies for reservoirs, lakes, estuaries, and coastal waters, as well as the design of cooling ponds and solar ponds, requires an ade quate quantitative description of turbulent flows. When the diffusion of some tracer (be it active, such as temperature or salinity, or passive, such as dissolved oxygen) is of relevance to a specific application, the proper determination of the effects of turbulent transport processes has paramount importance. Thus, for instance, the proper understanding of lake and reservoir dynamics requires, as a first step, the ability to simulate turbulent flows. Applications in other areas of geophysical research, such as meteorology and oceanography are easily identified and large in number. It should be stressed that, in this context, the analyst seeks predictive ability to a certain extent. Accordingly, the need for simulation models that closely resemble the natural processes to be repre sented has recently become more evident. Since the late 1960s considerable effort has been devoted to the development of models for the simulation of complex turbulent flows. This has resulted in the establishment of two approaches which have been, or 2 have the potential for being, applied to problems of engineering and geophysical interest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current Trends and Future Developments on (Bio-) Membranes: Techniques of Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) for Development of Membrane Technology provides updates on new progress in membrane processes due to various challenges and how many industrial companies and academic centers are carrying out these processes. Chapters help readers understand techniques of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) for the development of membrane technology, including an introduction to the technologies, their applications, and the advantages/disadvantages of CFD modeling of various membrane processes. In addition, the book compares these modeling methods with other traditional separation systems and covers fouling and concentration polarization problems. The book is a key reference for R&D managers interested in the development of membrane technologies as well as academic researchers and postgraduate students working in the wider areas of strategic treatments, separation and purification processes. Includes developments of membrane technologies in different applications by using CFD tools Describes CFD methods for evaluation and optimization of membrane process performance Indicates CFD method advantages over other modeling strategies for the analysis of membrane/membrane reactor processes
Book Synopsis Physical and Physiological Forest Ecology by : Pertti Hari
Download or read book Physical and Physiological Forest Ecology written by Pertti Hari and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-24 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces a holistic synthesis of carbon and nitrogen fluxes in forest ecosystems from cell to stand level during the lifetime of trees. Establishing that metabolism and physical phenomena give rise to concentration, pressure and temperature differences that generate the material and energy fluxes between living organisms and their environment. The editors and authors utilize physiological, physical and anatomical background information to formulate theoretical ideas dealing with the effects of the environment and the state of enzymes, membrane pumps and pigments on metabolism. The emergent properties play an important role in the transitions from detailed to more aggregate levels in the ecosystem. Conservation of mass and energy allow the construction of dynamic models of carbon and nitrogen fluxes and pools at various levels in the hierarchy of forest ecosystems.
Book Synopsis Turbulence by : O. M. Belotserkovskii
Download or read book Turbulence written by O. M. Belotserkovskii and published by Cambridge Int Science Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present the results of numerical experiments carried out to examine the problem of development of turbulence and convection. On the basis of the results, they propose a physical model of the development of turbulence. Numerical algorithms and difference schema for carrying out numerical experiments in hydrodynamics, are proposed. Original algorithms, suitable for calculation of the development of the processes of turbulence and convection in different conditions, even on astrophysical objects, are presented. The results of numerical modelling of several important phenomena having both fundamental and applied importance are described.

Download or read book Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 6 written by Wolfgang Rodi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-05-05 with total page 1011 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of the world renowned ERCOFTAC (International Symposium on Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Measurements). The proceedings include papers dealing with the following areas of turbulence: · Eddy-viscosity and second-order RANS models · Direct and large-eddy simulations and deductions for conventional modelling · Measurement and visualization techniques, experimental studies · Turbulence control · Transition and effects of curvature, rotation and buoyancy on turbulence · Aero-acoustics · Heat and mass transfer and chemically reacting flows · Compressible flows, shock phenomena · Two-phase flows · Applications in aerospace engineering, turbomachinery and reciprocating engines, industrial aerodynamics and wind engineering, and selected chemical engineering problems Turbulence remains one of the key issues in tackling engineering flow problems. These problems are solved more and more by CFD analysis, the reliability of which depends strongly on the performance of the turbulence models employed. Successful simulation of turbulence requires the understanding of the complex physical phenomena involved and suitable models for describing the turbulent momentum, heat and mass transfer. For the understanding of turbulence phenomena, experiments are indispensable, but they are equally important for providing data for the development and testing of turbulence models and hence for CFD software validation. As in other fields of Science, in the rapidly developing discipline of turbulence, swift progress can be achieved only by keeping up to date with recent advances all over the world and by exchanging ideas with colleagues active in related fields.
