Stewart and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: We investigated how variables that have been studied at the individual level may apply at the group level. Specifically, we examined how the self-reference effect (SRE) and the group-reference effect (GRE) impacted total information recall by examining the difference between interacting groups and nominal groups. Additionally, we also examined how the SRE and GRE might impact upon the recall of shared and unshared information by comparing nominal and interacting groups. Results were supportive for the SRE affecting the total recall of information as well as the recall of shared and unshared information. However, the impact of the GRE on group recall was mixed. Theoretical and applied implications are considered
Book Synopsis The Effect of Mood Manipulation on Self-Reference Effect Recall by : Wendy Myers
Download or read book The Effect of Mood Manipulation on Self-Reference Effect Recall written by Wendy Myers and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "People recall more information when relating it to themselves, resulting in the self-reference effect. Positive information is better recalled than negative information, resulting in the positivity effect. Participants were primed to be in positive, negative, or neutral reflective states. They then performed a task to stimulate different processing judgments for positive, negative, and neutral valence words, followed by a surprise free recall task. The hypothesis was that emotional priming alters the self-reference effect: positive-reflective condition participants would recall the highest proportion of positive words and negative-reflective condition participants the highest proportion of negative words. The self-reference effect was replicated, but priming and word valence had no significant effect. These results indicate the self-reference effect is highly stable across emotional contexts."--Abstract.

Book Synopsis Affect and Accuracy in Recall by : Eugene Winograd
Download or read book Affect and Accuracy in Recall written by Eugene Winograd and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-11-02 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recollections of unexpected and emotional events (called 'flashbulb' memories) have long been the subject of theoretical speculation. Previous meetings have brought together everyone who has done research on memories of the Challenger explosion, in order to gain a better understanding of the phenomenon of flashbulb memories. How do flashbulb memories compare with other kinds of recollections? Are they unusually accurate, or especially long-lived? Do they reflect the activity of a special mechanism, as has been suggested? Although Affect and Accuracy in Recall focuses on flashbulb memories, it addresses more general issues of affect and accuracy. Do emotion and arousal strengthen memory? If so, under what conditions? By what physiological mechanisms? This 1993 volume is evidence of progress made in memory research since Brown and Kulick's 1977 paper.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The strengths and weaknesses of human memory have fascinated people for hundreds of years, so it is not surprising that memory research has remained one of the most flourishing areas in science. During the last decade, however, a genuine science of memory has emerged, resulting in research and theories that are rich, complex, and far reaching in their implications. Endel Tulving and Fergus Craik, both leaders in memory research, have created this highly accessible guide to their field. In each chapter, eminent researchers provide insights into their particular areas of expertise in memory research. Together, the chapters in this handbook lay out the theories and presents the evidence on which they are based, highlights the important new discoveries, and defines their consequences for professionals and students in psychology, neuroscience, clinical medicine, law, and engineering.
