Book Synopsis The Effect of Nonuniform Temperature Distributions on the Stresses and Distortions of Stiffened-shell Structures by : Richard R. Heldenfels
Download or read book The Effect of Nonuniform Temperature Distributions on the Stresses and Distortions of Stiffened-shell Structures written by Richard R. Heldenfels and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The structural effects of nonuniform temperature distributions, such as those produced by aerodynamic heating or thermal ice-prevention systems, are discussed and found to be of two types: The introduction of thermal stresses and distortions as a result of restrained thermal expansion and a change in the stresses and distortions produced by the applied loads as a result of the variation of elastic properties of materials with temperature. These effects are illustrated by sample analyses of the stress and distortion distributions of simple box beams and by calculation of the stresses on a typical wing section.
Book Synopsis A Numerical Method for the Stress Analysis of Stiffened-shell Structures Under Nonuniform Temperature Distributions by : Richard R. Heldenfels
Download or read book A Numerical Method for the Stress Analysis of Stiffened-shell Structures Under Nonuniform Temperature Distributions written by Richard R. Heldenfels and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical method is presented for the stress analysis of stiffened-shell structures of arbitrary cross section under nonuniform temperature distributions. The method is based on a previously published procedure that is extended to include temperature effects and multicell construction. The applicationof the method to practical problems is discussed and an illustrative analysis is presented of a two-cell box beam under the combined action of vertical loads and nonuniform temperature distribution.

Book Synopsis Stress and Distortion Analysis of a Swept Box Beam Having Bulkheads Perpendicular to the Spars by : Richard R. Heldenfels
Download or read book Stress and Distortion Analysis of a Swept Box Beam Having Bulkheads Perpendicular to the Spars written by Richard R. Heldenfels and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is presented for the approximate calculation of the stresses and distortions in a box beam representing the main structural component of a swept wing with a carry-through section and with bulkheads perpendicular to the spars. The application of the method is illustrated by a numerical example and its results are compared with previously published test data.
Book Synopsis Experimental and Theoretical Determination of Thermal Stresses in a Flat Plate by : Richard R. Heldenfels
Download or read book Experimental and Theoretical Determination of Thermal Stresses in a Flat Plate written by Richard R. Heldenfels and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal stresses induced in a flat, rectangular, 75S-T6 aluminum-alloy plate by nonuniform heating are determined both experimentally and theoretically. The characteristics of commercially available bonded resistance wire strain gages are first investigated to determine their suitability for measuring stresses under simple conditions of stress and temperature. The gages are then used to measure thermal stresses in the flat plate in order to study their suitability under more complicated conditions. The experimental results are found to be in satisfactory agreement (within plus or minus 5 percent of maximum calculated stress) with an approximate theoretical solution of the problem.

This book was released on 1952 with total page 754 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wear and sliding friction properties of a number of nickel alloys operating against hardened SAE 52100 steel were studied. The alloys were cast beryllium nickel, heat-treated beryllium nickel, cast Inconel, Nimonic 80, Inconel X, Refractalloy 26, and Discaloy. Some of the allows studied may be useful as material for cages of rolling-contact bearings that operate at high speeds with temperatures above 600 degrees F in projected aircraft turbine engines or for bearings that operate in corrosive mediums. Desirable operating properties and the absence of extreme mass welding of all the materials could be associated with the development of the sliding surfaces of a naturally formed film of nickel oxide. On the basis of wear and friction properties, cast Inconel performed very well in these experiments and compares favorably with nodular iron. Nimonic 80 also showed promise as a possible cage material.
