Rubesin and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis was performed to determine the effects on the rates of convective heat transfer produced by arbitrary variations of the surface temperature with distance along a flat plate. The analysis was confined to the case of a low-speed turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate oriented parallel to the free-stream velocity. It was found that a continuously variable surface temperature has, in general, a smaller effect on the local convective heat transfer than does a surface-temperature discontinuity.
Download or read book Heat Transfer 4 written by Michel Ledoux and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-01-12 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat is a branch of thermodynamics that occupies a unique position due to its involvement in the field of practice. Being linked to the management, transport and exchange of energy in thermal form, it impacts all aspects of human life and activity. Heat transfers are, by nature, classified as conduction, convection (which inserts conduction into fluid mechanics) and radiation. The importance of these three transfer methods has resulted – justifiably – in a separate volume being afforded to each of them, with the subject of convection split into two volumes. This fourth volume is dedicated to convection, more specifically, the problem of particular convective transfers. Twophase convection is considered and a more recent and much lesser-known field is presented, that of phase change transfer. Particular significance is given to numerical applications, allowing the reader to handle orders of magnitude, an important point in all physics. Heat Transfer 4 combines a basic approach with a deeper understanding of the discipline and will therefore appeal to a wide audience, from technician to engineer, from doctoral student to teacher-researcher.

The problem of heat exchangers is presented, without aiming to be an exhaustive treatise. This book was released on 1958 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of the investigation suggest that at transonic speeds and at small angles of attack the calculation of all aerodynamic characteristics of slender, three-dimensional shapes can be made by use of transonic slender-body theory when the pressures on the equivalent body of revolution are Imown, either by experiment, or by an adequate nonlinear theory. From transonic slender-body theory it is deduced that the slenderness required for this application is the same as that required for the successful application of the transonic area rule.

Download or read book Corrosion of Metals of Construction by Alternate Exposure to Liquid and Gaseous Fluorine written by Richard M. Gundzik and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The corrosion of 3S-0 and 52S-0 aluminum, AISI 347, and 321 stainless steels, "A" nickel, and low-leaded brass has been determined from the weight change of specimens exposed alternately to liquid and gaseous fluorine. Experiments were continued for a total exposure time up to 3 1/2 months. It was found that corrosion is negligible under the conditions of the experiments. No visual differences were observed between those surfaces exposed to the gaseous phase only and those exposed to both the liquid and the gaseous phases.
Book Synopsis Expected Number of Maxima and Minima of a Stationary Random Process with Non-Gaussian Frequency Distribution by : Franklin W. Diederich
Download or read book Expected Number of Maxima and Minima of a Stationary Random Process with Non-Gaussian Frequency Distribution written by Franklin W. Diederich and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is outlined for calculating the expected number of maxima or minima of a random process with non-Gaussian frequency distribution from the statistical moments of the process and its first two derivatives. This method is based on an estimate of the joint frequency function of the process and its first two derivatives given by mesm of a generalized form of Edgeworth's series; the procedure thus consists essentially in applying a correction to the results for a Gaussian process. The functions required in this procedure are calculated for the first two correction terms; therefore, the effects of skewness and kurtosis can be calculated, provided the required moments are known. Expressions are given for these moments in terms of multiple correlation functions and multi-spectra, and the relations between these functions for a random output of a linear system and those for the random input are indicated.
Book Synopsis Exact Solutions of Laminar-boundary-layer Equations with Constant Property Values for Porous Wall with Variable Temperature by : Patrick L. Donoughe
Download or read book Exact Solutions of Laminar-boundary-layer Equations with Constant Property Values for Porous Wall with Variable Temperature written by Patrick L. Donoughe and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exact solutions of the laminar-boundary-layer equations for wedge-type flow with constant property values are presented for transpiration-cooled surfaces with variable wall temperatures. The difference between wall and stream temperature is aussumed proportional to a power of the distance from the leading edge. Solutions are given for a Prandtl number of 0.7 and ranges of pressure-gradient, cooling-air-flow, and wall-temperature-gradient parameters. Boundary-layer profiles, dimensionaless boundary-layer thicknesses, and heat-transfer coefficents are given in both tabular and graphical form. Corresponding results for constant wall temperature and for impermeable surfaces are included for comparison purposes.
